  2. Apparently the US isn't a signatory: http://www.icrc.org/ihl.nsf/WebSign?ReadFo...orm&id=105&ps=P Enjoy Rabz AHHHHHHHHH So they never bothered to sign it after the war intresting. Looks like I goofed on that one.
  3. Really ?????? That seems odd as if I recall correctly the United States signed the declaration of Paris after the Civil war witch abolishes the practice among it signatories. Indeed the only two major countries who didn't sign the declaration in 1856 were Spain and the U.S.A.. FYI The Union tried to sign the Declaration as soon as Jeff Davis issued Letters of Marque but the other signatories agreed it wouldn't take effect till after the cesation of hostilities. I was re-reading portions of the Confederate Privatteers and found these two highly recommended sources on the subject pre 1856 The Abolition of Privateering and the Declaration of Paris, By Francis R. Stark 1897 La Guerre de Course by Charles La Mache 1901 The first contains a "good outline of privateering before 1856 and the right of capture of private property at sea. The second "is a delightful treatise on the history of privateering and on the Declaration of Paris" I cannot say from first hand experiance that these books are as advertised but William M. Robinson Jr.'s own book is quite good and despite it rapidly approching the century mark is still considered the best on the subject of the Confederate Privateers.
  4. Cascabel if and when you do the patterning I for one would love to see the results. Also this disscusian has left me with two odd thoughts. 1 Where did gentelman hunters of the GAoP get their gear? 2 Was their a GAoP version of Outdoor life and or pherhaps a GAoP version of "Shooting Flying"
  5. That is...extremely scary... Don't get me wrong - I LIKE sex and money - at least, I think I did, back in the day... ...but still... 9. Cox had pretty much taken care of that problem by installing more nodes in high volume areas by the time I started working with em as has comcast in this area. The end all be all of it is you and where you live however. In theory cable should always win this little fight however if you are close to the dsl relay and there are a ton of people on the cable node then........... In the end it's all speculation until it's actually been tried.Witch is what makes dslreports.com so handy Other people who know whats going on around you talk about it so you don't have to find out the hard way. I used to recommened it to people on the phone but had forgotten all about it till Long Tom mentioned it

  15. I love it when a plan comes together
  16. I worked tech support for Cox cable for a while. As a general rule cable should be faster and more relliable. One option I use that I wouldn't reccomend is starband. Don't get me wrong I like it but unless you live in the stix like me there are better options.
  17. This is OoP but playing off Zorg's post one of the most stringent setups for receiving a Letter of Marque and Reprisal was setup by the Confederacy during the American Civil War. Where as previously the letter would be issued to a captain or financial backer the Confederacy actually tied theirs to the ship. One had to have a ship meeting with approval before you could be issued a letter of marque. In addition the letter could not be transferred to another vessel for any reason including the vessel's sinking or capture. Captains were also required to keep detailed logs of their voyages and could be held liable for piracy if neutral shipping was attacked or seized. Now as to why some of our less enthusiastic supporters don't issue letters of Marque or two fold. 1 To be honest declaring a Jihad is in itself a Letter of Marque really. 2 Privateering is really impractical these days as it was for the confederacy. Several problems arose for confederate privateers including but not limited to, no international ports in witch to adjudicate prizes, impossibility of getting big ships across the bar of southern ports, the practice being outlawed by most of the world, THE U.S. NAVY (< note that was really the biggest problem). These problems would in most cases be the exact same for a modern privateer if not more so. Chief among problems for this would be money. Privateering is a risky business that requires large amounts of cash up front and the return on this is highly questionable given previously stated problems. In fact there was really only one successful privateering cruise for the confederacy and it's captain went on to the much more profitable venture of blockade running. Again I apologize for being out of period but then I often am for some reason

  22. After reading about every one's problems I really don't know what right I have to complain but then I will anyway As of late the bizz ain't been going to good. Between insurance trouble and the state yanking my brothers cdl for 2 months I've been bustin my rump to make a buck but all I seem to be making is a deeper hole for myself. We finally got the insurance straightened out and then I go and hurt my back witch keeps me at home for a week. Fuel money has been a bear and between lay overs and dead head miles that situation isn't improving too fast. Since I can't run over the weekend I wind up in a rut running pretty much just the south east. I'm home every weekend witch although a dream for most is a headache for me as I'd rather go out for a few weeks and then spend a week or so at home. This combined with my absolute hatred of Florida and the neccasity of going there 2 to 3 times a week is drivng me out of my skull. Then to top everything off my best freind is haveing a miserable time between his ex and problems her dumbA>< keeps causeing. UGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
  23. If it helps MSN does have an "invicible" mode. They call it appear offline. It's under status you can set it up to log you in that way on the sign in page or once you are logged in. It's the last option on the status menu. I keep mine this way so if I'm playing a game or something won't have my friends trying to talk to me.
