Does any one else have that strange feeling of dejavue http://pyracy.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=884 Hate to keep dragging up these old threads for ye mates but this one has much of what we have covered and some info that has yet to be touched in this thread. It also has me making the "women had no choice argument" and being proven quite wrong(at least to my own satisfaction) by Foxe and Hawkyns (not much suprise there) Also Lady Seahawk I pointed out in one of my posts in the older thread that the Admiralty had declined to issue medals to women that had been at the battle of the Nile something that had apparently been quite openly discussed at the time and was wondering if this could be a mistelling of your Lady sailor receiving pay (I picked up this praticular bit of trivia from the History channel so I would be most intrested in anything you have from a solid source on the matter.)

Out of period and definatly not a cannon but on topic I present my favorite oddball fire arm. The Webley-Fosbery automatic revolver in .455. Known as the answer to a question no one ever asked it only had two real claims to fame.First it was used widely by early WW1 piolts as it used a large round had rapid fire and didn't eject hot cartridges into the flamable fabric aircraft. It's second note of distinction is it's brief apperance in the movie Maltese Falcon. http://www.thegunzone.com/webley-fosbery.html In a final thought I don't know whitch screams redneck louder the making of a double barrel cannon or the fact I have always wanted one to call my own. (Only in Georgia lol.)

Patrick to be frank the lines of the car just never appealed to me. (this is art we are talking about after all) Caraccioli is most likely right to say that after it's initial flaws were fixed the DMX was a good little sports car but to my eye there was just nothing in those stainless steel lines to recommend it. I also would take exception with Caraccioli's claim that it's cheif limiting factor was it's V-6. Although in natural aspiration engines there is no replacment for displacment the addition of a twin turbo setup (totally justified by it's price point and target audiance) would have pushed the DMX well into the supercar realm yet maintanied it's overall weight distrubtion (little known fact despite my love affair with the big blocks many a sports car hit's the street with a small block V-8 in fact most of the A/C Cobra's came equipped with a 302 not the pavment blistering 427 side oiler (gotta love those old FE block Fords)) For my money the best lines ever acheived by a sports car were the legandary Shelby A/C Cobra's and the Dusenburg SJ (not to mention the super rare SSJ and yes I know the bodeis were made by indcidual coach makers not Dusey but still just look at those beauts.) I'd also like to point out the engines in these machines are in many way's works of art as well. In fact they are a type of art rarely seen today designed to work as efficantly as possible with the air around them yet haveing to made within very specific parameters these old school motors (say the first flat heads till the death of the original Hemi.) are proof that great ieas need not come from "outside the box" . There is a Hot Rod cover shot of Zacherious Duntov sitting in front of several wild prototype motors that not only leave me drooling but wondering what the flow charts for those wild intakes look like. This feling is something I have never found in the realm of high class art.

Capt. Morgan please just make sure you nail him prior to the invasion of France. After that he's only a danger to his own citizens. Quite frankly I shutter to think what might have happened had Admiral Durnitz been the first Fuhrer not the second. Also I rember reading something about Hitler studing under a magiacian to learn his theatrical speaking style but it's been a while and he had a lot of "freinds" in showbiz. I also have to admit that they were great at putting on a show the impassioned speeches sympols of power refrences to history masses of troops it's all quite impressive really the kind of thing you'd imagine seeing in some midievil war parade or something.

Well Black jhon as you might imagine I'm going to stick by my comments but I will clarify to this extent I was reffering to Capt. Twill not the entire Pub. Yes I know ther are others but until recently this is where the bulk of my posts were and is where my intrest still lies. Quite frankly debates over how to sew an authentic button hole, Patrick Hand's excellent Buccaneer rig, Foxe's incrediably in depth posts, and topics like this one to me stand as shinning examples of my point. In addition Foxe's post was most in line with my original meaning althought the fantasy Vs. Historic reenactment debate (for the humtenth dozen time) isn't very far off either. As an answer to my own question an educated guess crosses the line when they are passed off as fact and or given with no education to make a guess with.
-
This may be a bit off for Capt. Twill but I was wandering when does an educated guess become a cop out. Reading through a few threads just now I was struck by just how hard we here at the pub try and make it clear what is a guess what is fact and what is just complete hog wash. This seems almost completely out of place when compared to say tv history programs. The most oft used cop out in my opinion is "We think it was for religious purposes" really why....... You have no evidence to suggest it was or wasn't you just have no clue what it was for! So I ask you when does an educated guess cross the line. In your opinion of course.

Art is what and where you find it I suppose. (by the way mechanical fuel injection is a glorious thing when done right. You would however be correct in stating that the Delorean got it WRONG) My real wonder to be honest is how anyon can perceive artistic taste to be a sign of intelagince. < It's obvious I ain't got none of either. By the way for no other reason than just to say it DUSENBURG RULES Yeah I know not as much fun as a Chevy Vs. Ford debate but still

Great tree Bonnie we are still working on mine as I'm only home on weekends and had to find all the ornaments. for the last few years we've had what we call the ghetto fab tree. We use all the old corny decorations we've gotten essintaily from inheritance of relatives and this year I was even able to break out the big 1970's style bulbs I bought for the top of the house. Hope everyone has a good time this Christmas.

Yeah ok but really calling the Delorian anything but a mistake is really stretching it As for painting the best artist I can think of would be Geoff Hunt who painted the cover art for all 21 Patrick Obrien novels. He and the late David Mann of Easy Rider fame pretty much account for all the artists I can name as I have yet to even contomplate being able to buy the prints advertised in my Aviation History magazines. P.S. The first car looks to be a late twenties early Thirties coupe is it a Cord?

How about a none of the above ? Sorry looks like I'm the only one who doesn't like Sci Fi

Maybe not what you need but for my working knives I've always just used wd-40. It seems to always be handy and for a frequently used blade excellent protection on my hunting/camping blades I've always used either 3 and 1 oil or gun oil depending on witchever was closest to hand. P.S. Gun oil tastes better :)

Hate to say it but great art is usually lost on me or at least as great art is generally explained. You see quite frankly I find nothing thought provoking about Piccaso, Monet, or the art work of Davinci. Art generally intrests me only if the subject intrests me, for instance aircraft and tall ship's in oil. This however is not to say I do not enjoy art I just find it diffrently. To me art is found in the lines of a A/C Cobra or the gull wing of an F-4u Corsair. A trible duece set up resideing between the rails of 34 high boy or the incredibaly huge radial at the front of an A-1 sky raider fill me with a joy no painting ever could. I find my solace in their idle my curiosity in their repair, and my heart ache in their destruction. It seems to some this labels me as a simpleton or pherhaps worse but then as far as I can tell any one who finds these traits in a rectangle painted two diffrent colors must have an IQ roughly equivalent to a preschooler. (I don't mean to offend with this) There is more I could and probaply should say but I'm to tired and wanna check for anything new in Twill before I pass out.

I'd pass you my bottle of Jack but it's being downed by a buddy in the same sort of mood. Told him her friends would screw it up

A few more points, (tis the season of giving after all) 1 I love real Christmas trees and have no qualms about them why? They are grown in large patches for no other purpose. In fact the only problem I could possibly see with real Christmas trees is the mess as before stated and the fact that that same acreage could be used to grow hard woods witch actually do some good for the enviorment however as it is commercial ag land I doubt it. 2 Hawkyns if ya wanna I'd be glad to have you sit over at my house. got a big fireplace and lots of hand made gifts and no one here things its cheap (we be to d_ _ n broke ) 3 Any time Bonnie anytime

As for me I've always loved tall ships cold steel and anything that goes BOOM. I grew up in the east central region of Georgia and have a faimly quite well rounded with seafarers. After being turned down at 18 by the Corp (Mix Clinton draw down with childhood asthma and volia) I decided I wouldn't be next in that line (I can be an angry redneck) and didn't care to follow orders hence piracy. Now as to how I came to hang out at the pub well Capt. Twill is the short answer. Although I'll never be a serious historian like Foxe I love history (witch as Stephen Ambrose once said should be taught as if the first two letters weren't there) and saw Capt. Twill as a great place to hang out. Recently though I have to say I've spent more time in Beyond piracy because the conversation's in Twill are areas with witch I have no real knowledge and or that witch has already been posted exceedes me own.

Good point mate. Ever notice how the whole Barbaric vs. Civiliased argument never really changes much from the Romans who coined the thing. True the names involved will change but not the seintament. As to mate Hawks reply it goes straight to my point. We can but for some reason we don't. This country was founded on the princable of innocent until proven quilty. This is dependant on a vigorus defence for every one. Even the red coats who commited the Boston Massacre got a damned fine lawyer. (one of our founding fathers actually) ( and yes I know that was under British rule and truthfuly no where near a massacre.)
