Has anyone dealt with Colonial gun works? I'm considering their queen anne pistol kit. Any thoughts? Is this the same kit that Dixie sells?

I ask because I've had a few emails come to me in the past day asking where their summer Pirates Magazine was. I verified that these were not subscribers to The Pyrates Way and told them that I had no idea when the PM issue was coming out. Anyone get their magazine so I can tell concerned subscribers what the deal is? None of them get any response either by telephone or by email from PM. I'd like to give people more of an answer than "I don't know, it's not my business". . . that's not how I do things. Please let me know!

What places would you guys suggest for buying one? Or patterns for making one? I'm working on putting together (edit) a better costume, while it may not be accurate, and any suggestions and/or personal experiences/references would be appreciated thanks!

I picked this up, tis a dutch bottle. $10, I should have bought more, but I can get more from the sutler later. I recall somewhere seeing simular bottles found on shipwrecks. I've seen onion bottles and other glass bottles, but I love this fired clay vessel. I plan to use this at events. Good? Bad? Ugly?

I came across this in the "Seaman's Grammar and Dictionary - 1691". Is anyone familiar with this instrument? Does anyone have any photo's or illustrations of the real thing? Seems like it would be an interesting and unique thing to reproduce. It's a tad early but it's easy to imagine something comparable still being found a couple of decades later.

Well my kit is coming together in earnest but so far it's as bare and simple as one can get. My next step will be a jacket of some sort but I'm stuck between Kass's sleeveless waistcoat (RH704) or the sailors short jacket (RH705). Any inputs as to the strength or validity of one versus the other would be well appreciated. Also high on the list are stockings, shoes, a decent belt, buttons on the shirt (god I love that shirt), redo the hat, and also make a monmoth cap.

In the Documentation thread, michaelsbagley posted this cool trick about using lead free solder for casting stuff.... You can go the the Documentation thread to read his full post....... I figure instead of keeping the discussion about casting stuff hidden in that thread, I'd start a new one..... I wanted to make a mold and cast some pewter buttons. I have some soapstone, so I used that. OK this try didn't quite work.... the solder worked, it's just that I now have a better idea about how I have to make the soapstone mold... I started a charcoal fire in the bar-b-que, and used an old stainless tablespoon to melt the solder in.... that part worked.... I know …

Ahoy, Has anyone here build a sailor's hammock, or have any sources as to how to go about doing so? Or even a place that builds period hammocks? I'd very much like to have one for me dorm room next semester.

I just had to post this somewhere. Never mind the portrait of Richards as a pirate, just look at the frame. I did notice, however, that the lock on the left gun (as one faces the frame) in on backwards. Otherwise, excellent. Does anyone know where who made the frame? EDIT: OK, found the artist, Paul Karslake, Ron Wood's Brother-in-law. And yet another cool frame! Who makes these things?

Hi, all. I'm finally getting my garb together, and I've found most of the things I want from various vendors (slops, shirt, and -- rope sandals!), but I'm still looking for a defining part, a sleeveless waistcoat. I mean, they just look so great! Hard to find, as well, so I ask for your help looking for them. The only one I could find that might be period is this, and not only am I unsure about the accuracy of it, they don't have it in brown. Well, thanks in advance. -Abrams Oh, and anyone know where I could get some sort of period belt?

Ahoy, I've been getting into 'calligraphy' lately and I'm looking to make perhaps a Letter of Marque or like an articles of pyracy document for a friend for a gift. I'd much rather have a letter of marque for they seem a bit more appealing, but I have found said articles already so I have plan B ready to go if necessary. I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas on the best way to go about this. PS. I remember seeing (not on here unfortunately) a replica of the letters of marque from POTC 2. If anyone has a pic of those I'd very much like to replicate that. Take care.
