Hey all Over the last week I've been working on a new period item... Leather costrels. I will have one of the two prototypes with me at Beaufort this weekend (one of the prototypes turned out very bad), and I am thinking of taking orders on these in the near future if there is interest. The main advantage of these leather costrels, is they don't break like glass does. They are also historically accurate... Here is link to a 17th century one Here's another link to a late 17th century costrel Here's another image of a costrel from the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto, it is close in size to my sample above (photo curtesy of Kate Souris) There is also an image of a c…

If you are coming to Florida or live in North East Florida or South Georgia you can now have your Pirate Family or Group photos take by Tiger Lee. Tiger has recently settled in St. Augustine and opened his Pirate Photos N' Treasures shop on old St. George Street. I went down to visit and his shop is shaping up very nice. Drop by if you visit St. Augustine and say hi. Pirate Photos N' Treasures 100 St George Street, Suite I (SW corner of Hypolita Street) St Augustine, FL 32084 it is always a good thing to help another pirate get his business going. Best to all Joe

1. The first thing you look for in new clothes is whether its made out of linen or wool. 2. The first thing when your in a new town is look for new fabric shops. 3. Go to Jo-Ann fabrics just to get a fix. 4. Order way to much and over buy any fabic, "just to have more should you need it later." 5. Hang on to every last scrap of fabric, cause you have a hard time letting go. (See #4) 6. While walking through the mall you see a new coat and are drawn to it just because it's made of linen. Anyone else??

I made this for my son's school assignment (the teacher had NO idea what she started when she asked the kids to dress the part of the Famous American they chose ), and now that it's done I'm offering them to my pyrate friends. This is the completed outfit: These are the pieces for sale. They fit a men's LARGE. Frock Coat $55 Waistcoat $25 The buttons on both are non-functional; the waistcoat uses snaps to keep it closed. If you buy both, I'll throw in the shirt for free. UPDATE: Prices lowered (again); need to sell for Christmas money.

I have been going through my stuff... again and found a few pieces of linen that didn't make it out with the last batch. I'll post more as I find em L5 $75 Shipped This is a big piece of linen 7.7 Yrds 60" wide. It probably from the first quarter of the last century As far as weight goes, I would say its on the heavy side of "Light" or on the light side of Medium... so a 3 or 4 on a scale of 1-10. Some slight storage marks but it has been laundered. I'd use it to make a shirt, chemise (if you don't mind a heavier material) or for lining of just about anything. LCP Embroidered/Patterned Beige Cotton 4yds x 58" $30 I bought this a while back as the pattern was…

Hello to everyone on the Pyracy Pub. I am not a reenactor but respect the effort and time put forth in this noble pursuit of keeping history alive. I do not like most of the clothing available and started my own research and that is how I found this forum and Reconstructing History. I am going to start with a shirt, following the instructions garnered from the Esoteric Creations website and then will continue with patterns from Reconstructing History. RH706 Breeches and Slops – I have found many examples so no questions here RH702 – Frock Coat RH703 – Frock Coat I would love to be able to see some completed Frock coats before I choose. I have found man…

SOLD all of it. Moving into the wools The English really liked wools. They were masters of its manufacture. While other countries royalty and upper classes would be found in the finest silks and other fabrics, wool found a place in every Englishman's (and English woman's) Wardrobe. From the King on down to the lowest of peasants, wool was the Fabric for England. First up is: W-A Grosgrain Wool 5.5 yds x 60" med weight Yards Grosgrain fabric has a ribbed appearance. It was very popular in centuries past. Some say that "Grog" gets its name from the Captain of a ship who invented it. He apparently wore a Grosgrain Coat, and was known as old "Grog". Can't co…

One of my readers from Australia contacted me saying he's been trying to contact Museum Replicas <http://www.museumreplicas.com> by email to sort out a problem on ordering. Their web site opens up ok but their email site doesn't respond. So I tried too. The website opens, but "Contact Us" section has no information on it. I know Cascabel lives near there. So I called him to see if he knew anything, but he haven't heard of any problems. On the FAQ page, I found this number, 1-800-883-8838 M-F 8:30 am to 9pm and Saturday 10am to 4pm ET. I called at 7 PM ET, tonight, and the phone just rang and rang. Does anyone know anything about what's going, or have had…

Morrigan Quicksilver outdid himself (assuming he does himself at all) with the amazing dish he crafted especially fer me champion mouser & Maine Coon privateer, Gizmo. Indulge me in admiring some photos of the hand-made masterpiece, as part of our own Quicksilver collection and also with The Beastie himself, Gizmo "Blackboots" Diablo, Chief Mousing Officer of the Green Murder. I've had me tankard and warning shot for years, and have given tankards and warning shots as gifts, and I tell you they are treasured wherever they are received and hold up to years of hard drinkin' and debauchery (as well as repeated microwaving and dishwashering). Mister Quicksilver is …

I need a dress for the RF5 and after, preferably of colonial or civil war period. I have my eye on the blue silk on this page but in blue cotton, since it would be far less dear to buy. I dont have time or patience to make mine, even though I know it would be superior, like all yours. http://www.eraoriginals.com/index.html (red at top, but no checks) http://www.eraoriginals.com/clientarchive.html (blue silk at top) Do her civil war dresses (off shoulder ball gown) look period enough for RF5 and for the GAOP? or does this colonial style dress look period enough? and which one? http://s158.photobucket.com/albums/t113/me...-album/clothes/ ' password pirate ' or d…

I moved the non linen/hemp fabrics to another thread SILKS As Promised... Here is the fabric and notions and what not for sale. I will keep updating this list as things come and go.. I have yet to get to my wool boxes, trims, and half of the Linen. For those of you who went to PiP, there were some outstanding authentic pirates there... if you want to improve your game a bit, here is some fabric that will help put you over the top (and using Reconstructing History's patterns). I got too much stuff... period. Other fabric whores out there know what I am saying. My main problem is I am living in Germany (my wife is a Dodds teacher) and I just can't get to the events..…

And saw a couple of peices of clothing that look like it might work for my pirate gear & I wanted ya'lls impression on them. Basically I would like to know if they would be good for period or not. I think they would be but a second(or third) opinion is always nice. this one & this one. Let me know as I'll seriously consider them if they would work.

Found these at Joann Fabrics today.... Up near the registers in the $1 type bins. They had a whole section of bins that were marked $2.50 and this set of spoons was in it. They had TONS, of course every Joann Fabrics will likely be different, but it doesn't hurt to look if you are looking for some feast gear! Extra spoons are always handy, also!

Ok so I've been having a couple problems finding good looking, non-rubber shrunken heads for my accessories. My dad tossed an idea out yesterday to just carve out some apples like a pumpkin, stitch the eyes and mouth closed and let them dry out for about few a few weeks. Possibly put a coating on them so they don't break apart. I laughed at this idea because it's just too funny (and easy) to pass up. If you saw a pirate with these would you find it funny or just stupid?
