I won two passes to Steamcon in Seattle for this weekend. http://www.steam-con.com I am unable to attend, so they are up for grabs to the quickest one to contact me with your actual names so that I can transfer them to you. They will be available at the Will Call desk at the event. Simply identify yourselves as the recipients. I hate to see them go to waste. Well mates... seems Johnny is right peevish about the departure of our Chairman Dick Cook. According to my info of the moment, (which a we all know changes with every breath) there may be some *re thinking* about Pirates 4. Johnny says that everything that *He* agreed too was born in Dick's office and he is VERY unhappy that he has been forced out. I'll keep you in the loop with anything that I can share....

I'm teaching some background in my Lit class to 12th graders and found this neat little "choose your own adventure" interactive game. "It's 1629, and you have recently been appointed Governor of a New World colony on the wind-swept coast of the province of Mayne. Your Company's investors have charged you with the tasks of selecting colonists and a ship, and safely guiding them across the sea. At the end of your journey to the New World, your Company's investors will evaluate your performance as Governor. You will be judged on the health and morale of your colonists, the quantity of supplies you bring to the New World, the state of your ship and crew, and the likeliho…

So many ideas so little time! Steampunk is such a fertile ground for fresh ideas, fun projects...but too often, I just procrastinate over and over again. But here's a couple example of stuff I would really like to make: - a steampunk tin-can banjo. This one I hope I will do but I have already other intrusment waiting to be build/refirbish, a small hurdy-gurdy, a medieval gittern, a cigar box guitar... - a steampunk melodica or small button accordeon. If I found a nice toy accordeon, I will probably buy it just in case one day I found the time for... - a steampunk moped. You know the old european style ones with pedals. I would like to convert it to electric and make i…

Last week I got a Honda Silverwing 500 ..... I only have a bill of sale, and no pink slip, so I have to visit the DMV and make sure everything is cool before I start working on it..... (crossing fingers and holding my breath.... I'm fairly sure everything will be OK.....) But I'm going to Steampunk the snot outta it....... Make a new gas tank, find a tractor seat for it... change the rear finder, chop quite a lot of it off, and make it into something really interesting (and street legal ) This is what it looks like right now......

Johnny Depp showed up in full Jack costume. I knew there would be a 4th movie, no way would Disney stop at 3. Here's the article on it: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocomplex/2009/09/johnny-depp-jack-sparrow-disney-costume-.html

I've read on Pat Croce's ( owner of Pirate Soul Museum ) web site, that he and the director of Gladiator were making a movie on "BlackBeard", I've surfed the web and they say there is a "BlackBeard" movie coming out next year, but nothing about the details yet. Anyone know more on this movie, looking forward to it, when it comes out.

From The Register: A rookie police officer suffered scratches and bites to his hands and arms after being asked to escort a celebrity parrot to a Dover police station, the Telegraph reports. The owner of the 3ft wingspan macaw was pulled at Dover ferry dock after an officer spotted the bird loose in her vehicle. She was cuffed after checks showed she was banned from driving, and PC Martn Dadd, being "the officer with the least length of service", was "volunteered" to drive the car to "a more appropriate location". Chief Superintendent Steve Masters, of the Port of Dover Police, explained: "A very nervous probationary officer then proceeded to drive the vehicle to …

Good news! One of the two unpublished books by the late Michael Crichton is a very well received pirate novel. Details below from Time Magazine. When Michael Crichton died last fall, he left behind two unpublished novels. The first of them to come to light is Pirate Latitudes, set in 1665, a time when England owned Jamaica and Spain very badly wanted to own Jamaica. The island's governor sends a pirate, Edward Hunter, to take down a Spanish galleon loaded with treasure. Film rights have already been snapped up by Steven Spielberg and David Koepp, the team that produced a little movie based on another Crichton novel — called Jurassic Park.

Ahoy, shipmates! Navigate on over to http://www.gather.com/viewVideo.action?id=11821949021893162 and take a look at Blackbead Productions' first major motion picture! It's based on a poem that tells the tale of a cursed pirate ship haunted by the ghost of one of the crew's victims! You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll scream out loud! Well, maybe not out loud . . . but you might have nightmares! Well, maybe indigestion. But go see it anyway! Blackbead

Here it is folks.... It's a go although not for this year as stated. DISNEY: AUG. 2009 Captain Nemo: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea - One of the first, biggest, and best-regarded live-action films Walt Disney ever made, 1954's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was a major adventure whose unique, massive scope is now regularly aspired to by Disney's tentpole pictures today. You can bet that group will include this remake/reimagining of the Jules Verne classic, described as a "big, big globe-trotting movie." Reportedly, the film will tell the origins of Nemo as he builds his submarine, the Nautilus, and finds reason to attack. This will be the fifth feature directed by the…

Just came across this....well, actually I think it was just released: Air Steamship by DAZ - Free for a short time It's a CGI 3D model of an Air Steamship, not a "pirate" ship but can be modified to such. It can be used in a variety of 3D rendering programs, DAZ also has such a program for free called DAZ:Studio, not as full featured as others but getting fairly mature (still buggy IMO). If anyone here uses Poser, Vue, Carrara, Bryce, or other such programs then these 'models' will work in them (Poser & DAZ:Studio naively, the others with just a few tweaks) I have another, much more better one IMO, that I have been meaning to get rendered for you but just have no…

Yar, I find myself being more and more interested in Airship Pirates as time goes by. I'd like to get into it but I don't want to just buy completed items like I did with my pirate stuff. Knowing that we are not in the same area, can anyone suggest places where a n00b can scrounge items up? I think it's the actual tinkering that interests me the most. I once played warcraft and there was a profession called engineering that screams steampunk and ever since then I've been a little hooked on gadgets, widgets and goggles. I guess my question is, how did you all start? -Hawk

A performer at Walt Disney World and theater-community mainstay died Monday, four days after he was injured onstage at the Magic Kingdom. Mark Priest, 47, fell Thursday while playing in "Captain Jack Sparrow's Pirate Tutorial," an interactive show in which actors lead guests through a series of pirate-skills tests, a Disney spokeswoman said. Priest, who was in a mock sword fight, stumbled on a wet spot on the stage and then banged into a wall, said friend Jeffrey Breslauer. His injuries included a broken vertebra in his neck and a cut that required 55 stitches to his scalp. Priest was moved out of intensive care and appeared to be improving, but he experienced complica…
