Upon swearing meself to a life of Piracy some years ago, I dubbed meself 'Dickos Fortuna', basically with the Dickos as a shortening for Richard, and the Fortuna sounded nice. Last year I searched the word 'Fortuna' on Google, and discovered this: "The Pirate Republic 1680 marked a second radical change of course in the history of the Islas Fortuna y Aflicción. In that year, a pirate fleet lead by Captain Davidson sacked the Fortaleza Bella Vista and converted the island into a base port for incursions and swashbuckling across the Caribbean. Fortuna has remained a pirate republic ever since. While nominally a part of the Commonwealth, it is now self-governing." I w…

I meself be open to any related topic, be it swords, knives, pistols, muskets, cudgels, boarding actions, dueling, or land assaults (after all, they don't call me "Mad Dog" fer nuthin'!). http://www.unmuseum.org/oakisl.htm I've seen specials on this on A&E and find it fascinating. There are also several good web sites out there with good photos of various levels and things found. Any thoughts. If nobody knows what it is I will re-post with details, but I'm thinking a board of pirates will know about legitimate treasure sites.

Aye mates! It twas' a darin' n' dasterdly plan but Black Jack n' his crew took over the local Fraternal Order of Eagles club here on the North Coast Saturday nite. First we plundered the bar n' ravaged da barmaids. Then me "Master Gunner" Mr. Nubbs laid waste to the dance floor with a hail of cannon fire. The band was playin' some kinda country music,(Black Jack hates that stuff). So we rounded the lott up n' threw them over board draggin' thar carcusses over the corrals til the sharks wouldn't pay any mind to em'. All in all, it twas' yet another lost, drunken Saturday nite! Ol' Black Jack even went as far as to get his first mate "Shanghai Sooz" pissed off at him (What …

A time or two during the "pirate's kit" discussion, mates have mentioned having spyglasses. Now, these are vey nautical and pyratical, great props, and they can come in handy! Does anyone know when they first came into use? Can anyone recommend a source for a good, usable, period (18th -early 19th century) spyglass? Capt. William

Can any mate recommend a good short-term sailing experience? Let me clarify. I'm not interested in modern sailing craft, nor in Windjammer type cruises. Neither do I have the time to devote 9 consecutive weekends to volunteer crewing aboard an historic vessel some 300 miles away, nor am I young and AB enough to be climbing the rigging. What I'm interested in is a cruise aboard a tall ship or other period type vessel, where we can (preferably) leave the sight of land, spend a night or two aboard, have an experienced crew, but be able to pick up some pointers about sailing the vessel. Can anyone so recommend? Capt. William

Where can we buy earrings in the hoop variety? Every now and again I find them while I do a rare but of shopping but they are exceptionally few and far between. I have exceptional alergenic ear lobes and while I was able to take the pain of dealing with infection after infection while that ear lobe healed, I would like the other ear lobe either pierced or maybe find a clip-on that looks cool. Anyone?
