Ahoy Mates! My name is Zak, however many of you know me as my now infamous christening of 'Master Vanilla Shake'(courtesy of the Viceroy) from the past two years I've attended Fort Taylor Pirate Invasion at Key West. I hail from Toronto, Canada, a little cold for comfort (I'm a tropical guy at heart) and I've grown up loving the sea and pirates. I am currently writing a series of historical novels for teens, which teach the true history of the Golden Age to my generation through a rollicking series of high-seas adventures. I have been writing these for 5 years now and have written roughly 500,000 words on it. Right now I am working on revisions of the first novel in t…

A member of the pirate communities mother is ill and suffering. I don't know this person well so I don't wish to use names. However please pray that she suffers little. Pray that she gets past this illness and can go home quickly. Thank you all.

Avast there! I just joined this forum... Really glad I did! (And I can't believe I didn't catch up with it 'til now)... Let me introduce myself: My name is Chris Leidenfrost-Wilson, but I'm better known on the high seas as Captain Henry Martin. I'm a pirate actor and folk-singer and also a member of the NY singing pirate group, The Crimson Pirates. (There will be much more on this later... for more pressing matters are at hand!) Anyway, Stoli vodka has selected me and my pirate persona as one of ten finalists for their next "Stoli Original" campaign. Now-- I know what some of you are thinking-- "pirates only drink rum! Arr! What are ya thinkin' lad?" But honestly, …

The amount of questions I have for all of ye rivals the amount of rules in "The Code". That being said the best place to start is at the beginning. Who are ye? And What do you do? I've been looking over the forums for a few days and have learned quite a bit however I'd like to just come out and ask. Are ye, the members of this forum, mostly re-enactors? If you are, how did you get into it? How did you come up with your pirate name? I see there are a few artisans here. Do you sell your goods online or at shows? I've noticed that this forum seems spread out across the US. How does one find a crew or even start their own? Are you focused on being historically ac…

Ahoy mates, More information will be coming shortly, however I wanted to post now and let you know that one of our own Pirate brothers has suffered a tremendous loss. Many of you are good friends of Captain Bad Jack, who is the lead singer of the very popular Pirate Band *Pirates of the Black Swan* Last Saturday his home was destroyed by fire and while most importantly his wife made it to safety, it took the lives of his 3 dogs and 7 cats. They have lost nearly everything it seems but are even more emotionally traumatized by the death of their pets. I know they will appreciate your thoughts and prayers and as soon we have further information I will pass it along to y…

A PIRATE’S CHRISTMAS By Capt. Rob Temple ‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the ship The pirates were stirring rum punch for a nip The guns were run out to their maximum clearance Just in case ye old navy should make an appearance The lookout was passed out cold on the deck Dreaming of a hangman’s noose round his neck Blackbeard in his hat and I in my bandanna Had just settled down to smoke a Havanna When out on the sea there arose such commotion We knew there was something out there on the ocean Away to the railing I flew like a flash And leaning far over I threw up the hash And Blackbeard was laughing and bellowed out, “Aahhrr You always get…

I might be taking a cruise to Nassau and Freeport in October, and I just picked up a couple of guide books. But they;re all pretty pedestrian, with fairly common information. What we need, really *need*, is...A Pirate's Guide to Nassau (or the Bahamas), containing not only the usual information that would make anyone's visit to the islands more enjoyable, but would also contain the sort of tidbits that would gladden any pirate. For example, does "Blackbeard's Tower" have any connection at all with Neddy Teach and the Sweet Trade, where was Execution Point (in case anyone wants to place flowers there...or better, a bottle of rum), and where you can get some good rum and…

Ahoy, me 'earties! 26 years ago today, I embraced the Pirate world fer the first time. In that dark weekend afore I turned 20, I was the only landlubber what dared love Roman Polanski's PIRATES --- or, at least, love it enuf to appreciate it --- and I thought I were alone. But that day, Saturday, July 19th, 1986, nobody wanted a Pirate movie around, blarst it all! So, channelin' ol' Blackbeard's dear spirit, an' adoptin' the ol' rogue as me Corporate Mascot and Principal Spokespirate, I founded Electric Pirates Entertainment and its parent company, EPE Holdings. Now, here I be, 26 years later, and look what's happen'd ta me: EPE will, if certain landlubbers git off the…

There was something I read recently, but with all that's been going on, I can't remember what it was that I read. It was comparing pirates in a way to the old viking warriors, and their methods of brutality, etc. The always showed and talked about the pirates and their swords and guns killing a man, but what did they use or do to the women they came across. Nothing about women was ever mentioned? Or, were there no women around where a pirate would have been? Or perhaps, back then, women were not worthy of being mentioned.

This is my way to thank you all for your friendship - I think it is about one year, if not more, since I am here and I have learnt a lot of things from you. I have contributed too little, but I have read a lot, you have been here to answer my questions... and yes, of course I'm staying, this is NOT a good bye, only... another honest question, which I hope I am allowed to ask. And if it is longer, like everything I am writing... please, bear with me. You might again know something I don't, your answers have always been helpful. Besides learning lots of things about the period and setting my Age of Sail RPGs are in, because I like having my stories as period correctly as p…

I have a quick question on coats. I am currently looking into upgrading from my costume coat to a more PC coat. Right now I am thinking of straying from the Long Coat and possibly picking up a sailor's jacket instead. I have been looking into possibly a Slops Contract style. My main question has to do with the overall length of the coat. Right now I have a long vest and I was wondering if the Sailors jacket would be at least as long as the vest. I am not to sure how it would look if the Jacket were a good deal shorter than the front of the vest. There is a picture of my current long vest on 117 of the garb thread for reference. Also there is a picture of Bo in …

I appreciate being notified of spam in the Crows Nest, but without a link to the piece of junk I can't start looking at every single thread to find it. I appreciate Silent's PM, but when I tried the link, I got nothing. I can only surmise it's been removed.

Whensomever I finish writing a script, serious drinking is necessary. As the weather out is frightful - well, rainy, dark, and depressin', anyways, I'll buy a round here for folks to enjoy. And after a month or two o' tinkerin', it might actually be worth staging somewheres or other. Cheers to ye all!
