Hester
Last night: Braised beef liver with carmelized onions in port wine gravy Baked potato Steamed broccoli Since Mr. H. was out at meeting last night, and he doesn't like liver, I made this iron-rich meal for myself. The package of liver was far more than one person could eat at a sitting, so I threw the leftover cooked liver & sauce into the food processor and made a pate', which I'm gonna have on crackers for my lunch now. If I don't get bogged down with other housework, possibly some Creme Brule as well, though there's still some vanilla cheesecake in the fridge. Hester
Hester, I have seen photos o' what ye calls a 'pub', I would hate t' see what ye calls a full out 'restaurant'!!! The pub kicked us out, MadL! (We didn't have a reservation.) Wound up down the block at a swanky Art Deco restaurant that didn't require a reservation and had a great cocktail list (not to mention wonderful sweet potato fries!). Red Cat Jenny
Too hot to cook. Mex take out sounds good. With a a margarita and the air conditioning. Hester
Careful, Jenny -- I've discovered from personal experience that margaritas are fattening (especially by the blenderful)! CaptainSatan
I'm a cooking a Lebanese dish tonight. I don't know what it's called but it is a mixture of ground lamb, shredded chicken, rice, cinnamon, black pepper, slivered almonds, and pine nuts. Served with pita bread. As we say in Ireland let's drink until the alcohol in our system destroys our liver and kills us.
Hester
Since it's hot and steamy out today and I don't want to put the air-conditioning on, I'm making a cold supper tonight. It will include: Store-bought potato salad (which is actually suprisingly nice) Assorted cold cuts: roast beef, smoked chicken, salami Chilled steamed asperagus in a mustard vinaigrette Mini cucumber "boats" stuffed with mock crab Assorted crudit'es with grilled artichoke dip Fresh strawberries and apricots for dessert. Ransom
WAY too bloody hot to cook. 100 degrees right now, and heading to 102 tomorrow. Dinner, therefore, will be: Brushetta with olive tempanade Cold tomato and cucumber salad And possibly BBQ-grilled brunschwiger (?) tossed in fresh lemon juice. Fresh cherries for desert ...schooners, islands, and maroons and buccaneers and buried gold... You can do everything right, strictly according to procedure, on the ocean, and it'll still kill you. BriarRose Kildare
Hmmm, not sure, whatever I can find, tomorrow's shoppin day. Hester
Frozen fish & chips. Which I significantly overcooked because I got distracted on-line while they were in the oven. Not really one of my culinary masterpieces!
Ransom
Last night... Boneless, skinless chicken breasts, marinated in lemon olive oil and herbs, then grilled on the BBQ Baked potatoes with sour cream and home-grown chives Tomato, dark blue bell pepper, purple basil (all home grown), and cucumber, diced and tossed with olive oil and red wine vinegar. The bell pepper looks almost black, it's so dark. But it's just the skin. If you cook it, the skin turns dark green. But raw, in a salad, it looks really kewl and colorful. And the flavor is mild. ...schooners, islands, and maroons and buccaneers and buried gold... You can do everything right, strictly according to procedure, on the ocean, and it'll still kill you.
