Why was the tricorn hat shaped the way they are
HarborMaster replied to Rusty Barrels's topic in Thieves Market
So the Rich Peacocks could show off their wigs ! Speaking of rugs I need to get me a wig.., Something in a dark brown shag -
I am confused why you want a doglock on a sea service? Actually the notion that a flintlock didnt exist in the GAoP is false., The British Military discontinued purchase and arming of the Doglock in 1715 which means development.,and perfecting of the flinter came prior to a discontinue. The Flintlock did exist., its common knowledge. Much like the flintlock existed for cannons for several years but the Admiralty just didnt trust it till right before the cap. Slowmatch stayed as a mian way to fire a cannon almost until the percussion cap. If you think about it., thats a longtime.,and it proves the powers that be were stubborn

You are going back 2 the GaOP for 1 year

Food for thought? I thought about the satelites., for the GPS before I posted., and then I figures theyd be as common as the electricity to charge all of these digi devices., laptops and other modern items ? I do like the AK idea., but anyone carryin tampons big enough to stop a ship from sinking doesnt need a tampon..., they need a doctor :) . -

1. The Con (Loaded) 2. A DeLorean Motor-Car that can hit 88 M.P.H. at the precise moment in time as the lightning strikes the clock-tower ? 3. Flux Capacitor 4. A hover board 5. A red Gibson ES 336 Just like Chuck B's -
They did come later., but they were sailing vessles..., you didnt state GAoP ships., unless maybe I read that wrong., in which case I still say., Sloop ., Schooner manuevering,., and the power of a Man O wars guns.
-
I would say yes to the sloop and schooner for speed and manueverability .., However the Man O' War for Firepower. If you want to accomplish both however during the age of sail...., Then you must look to the Americans with their new "Super Frigate" The American Super Frigates may very well have been the ultimate sailing fighter., and the topic is easily arguable and hotly debated amongst people ., some of whom talk about wars that never happened. For example., The Philipe ., The Con., the Santismo and of course Nelsons Victory......, What a mangled mess of fallen mast rope and rigging., these firey 4 would have made of each other. Very Fast and Very Powerful. Never beaten !!! The U.S.S. Constitution...., "The Con" and her sister ships (USS United States ..,USS Constellation ..,USS Chesapeake ..,USS Congress ...,USS President ., played a key role in this nations ability to trade and grow . Our Navy may have been small at first......, but not to be reckoned with.

Myself Ihave always used English black flint. I heard it was the best., and its never letmedown.,however after reading this post i will be trying some Amber.,if it cost a few cents more per peice., probably its at least as good. Sounds more personal preferance at this point.,however as far as lasting longer that would be nice. I always use Machined flints., there cheaper and seem to work the first time on every gun I own. All my locks seem to like the bevel side down.., anyone else notice this on your locks. (Captain Alva I noticed a rifle butt over a fireplace in the pic of your brother and the scarf. that looks like a pretty long rifle..., whatcha got there ? )

Thats it. I bought a marble pestle and mortar and ground the pyrodex fine., real fine.,do this with about 10 grains., thats enough to play with., then after its fine like a dust., try that in your flash pan., It doesnt spatter., it takes off woosh! We made about 200 grains super fine for a days shooting we put it in a priming flask. we primed the barrel., then used our 2f Pyro., then primed the pan., it fired evertime. Theres no real great replacement we have found for good ol GOEX.., however with the problem getting it in Washington., and the non availability of it in the PH ( I cant get GOEX in the Philippines) .,I have to find other ways to have my fun. There are fire work houses in the PH everywhere., so I have to use a little chemistry and figure out what will work., whats safe and whats relieable......, I have a flintlock tinder starter I use to test powders there. Its been fun

This thread is getting more interesting than flints. I have always used BlackPowder and I agree with Patrick. However....., ? Its almost impossible to get BlackPowder in Washington state now. I have to order it and Pay a 20.00 HAZMAT fee ., which is not worth it for 2 cans of cannon grade., 2-2f and then a can of 3f for prime ., on thos 5 cans ., the Hazmat ups it 4 more bux a pound. Anyway yea., Pyrodex doesnt work....................., so we thought . After a few experiments ., yea we made pyrodex flash in the pan.., Then we proceeded experimenting., and it can easily be done when in a pinch., I am now a believer. Yea when short on BlackPowder., you could dump say 5 grains of BP into the barrel., then then immatation propellant., then BP in the Pan. Boom. But now we figured out how to do it.,with Pyrodex only. :)

If you bought your rifle from Middlesex., just let Wendy know you need some flints she can load you up with plenty when your gun ships. If you bought Loyalist Arms then ask them.., Other wise Track of the Wolf may be a good choice they have good English Flints spark everytime !!! Track of the Wolf
-
Looking forward to the photos. Congratulations Rats., You wont regret it., theres something about a rock scraping sparking steel that you just cant get in a modern cartridge., Good show man !

A possibles bag may be the answer for you., essentially it is just a leather strap ., like a lighter duty baldric with a soft leather bag on it. That'll take care of your needs just fine. Check out the last of the mohicans for 2 hours of Blackpowder-Accoutrements. You can get., Powder-Primer-Patches-Balls-and even Moose-Milk and or Bore-Butter in there., probably a vent pik and a bore brush too..., Your gonna love this Musketoon!! Yes I said MOOSEMILK

Happy Incompetent European Navigation Day!

Interestingly enough when Columbus discovered America in 1492..., he didnt. What he discovered was Hispanola.........,Haiti and the Dominican Republic ., I am surprised it is celebrated at all as an American holiday in the United States., rather than a Haitian holiday. I guess he found an Island in The North American Hemisphere .., amazing -
Of course...., have they got a painting of Emma at the Huntington?

Cpt_Alva Do you have any Middlesex trading village weapons? With all of this., talk about the lock speed and knowing what your doing to fix a Middlesex lock (thus voiding any warrantee....., they are warranteed so people dont have to do that., they replace and repair ., there good people)..., and this business about people with mixed feelings....., I am hoping you could shed more light on this. Maybe tell us the names of those who are unhappy so they could elaborate more on this for us. I am sure Middlesex would be happy to help them out. It is in their best interest to do that. I personally own several., Pete and Wendy at Middlesex have been very forthcoming on keeping their name good., I have heard nothing but good and have been treated well., The same can be said for Military Heritage (The Discriminaring General) and Loyalist Arms by the way. I did have a licensed gunsmith mess up a Military Heritage lock for me..., and MH applied the money paid on the pistol toward a Blunderbuss...., 2 YEARS after the original purchase ! No Questions asked. And they do not have to warrantee something thats been piddled with...., but they did.., I find this to be outstanding behavour. I have experience wiith all 3 dealers., my name is definitely in their computers. They are all good.. I see no differance. My question is why the regular brush off of Middlesex and whats your experience with them., and can we hear from those who got hurt by their purchases from Pete and Wendy? By the way ., yes they are an Indian made gun., as are Military Heritage and Loyalist. If you would like an american made gun., get ready to lay out some real dough...., a good gun for a middle of the road price would be an Italian made weapon., Nothing wrong with an Indian made gun for 3 bills.

I'm impressed. Your definitely a do'er please keep us posted. Theres a few things there I would like to have ., we could start with that coat and red waist coat. Good Show Man !

This is not a pirate based topic and may not belong here ?., I recently went to Oregon and stopped in a Museum honoring Captain Gray. After reading I began to realize in all the history we learn as children in the schools.,about patriots.,and explorers.,this is one I was never informed of.., maybe I was out doing something naughty that day? Anyway out here on the west coast we are all pretty familiar with Lewis and Clark..., well before Lewis and Clark .,Captain Gray led the way. He captained our beloved Lady Washington and the Columbia., He was almost killed by Indians ., sailed the Lady Washington as a single masted sloop before her refit and was infact quite the explorer. Here is the Museums brochure you can read thru it for your enjoyment.

I love this stuff. Thanks for sharing this project !

The SCA started in our neighborhood then the ranch owners that have the property its held at wanted to expand it., now it ., "Fantasy Faire" ., the King and Queen show along with the Seattle Knights.,and everyone else shows too., It gets bigger each year., yea its a good idea to see whats expected at your local event., ours is kind of a do as you please now...., so we do. Pirates tried to take Noahs Ark lets not forget that., They laughed when he built his boat., then when the water got high., they all tried to take it over. Pirates have been around since the first time someone built something that floated...., someone tried to take it. We dont have a many "Pirate Events" here so we go where ever we can., whenever we can....., which is not enough..., 6thats kinda why we are working toward doing our own thing.
-
Yes., its a good pistol. We have the 12" and the 9" barrel., and they are shooters.
-
I feel the same way..., Well said.
-
Say hello to "Pinkie and Blueboy" for me aye !
-
No., not in reality. GAoP is to new for the tastes of SCA enthusiasts.,its a differant time period..,pirates would not have been with Kings and Queen.., of course Kings and Queens would not have been with fabled dragons. Yes in 2006 and yes in fantasy...., ie Dragons and such. If they allow Dragons......., that pretty much opens the door to Fantasy.,at least here in Washington at our Renn Faire. People have come dressed as foliage ? Cats .,ect.,ext., all kinds of things......., there are pirates attending. Our local event is SCA., and they tolerate this for the extra revenue it brings in., its a topic thats been gone over a few times. The best thing to do is check with your local event.
