  1. Congratulations to you and yours shipmate!
  2. Deacon Frye you'ld be right about the ketch at Charles Towne Landing. She's a small rounded thing to be sure. I,ve not been there in a long time now (falling into the habit of not doing the tourist stuff in the ol'hometown thing that must people tend to do.) I do know that she has been rececently taken out and repaired and restored. The Landing itself has undergone some renovations too but I can't say just what they are. I'll look up the web-site and post it for you if I kind find it. I don't know what it is about this place but the sure don't like keeping up with their history here, even though they want to promote it as being historical. Ever since the controversy over the confederate flag even the Civil War events and history are being kept low keyed. I know I'm exagerating some but if you show to much interest in the War of Northern Agression, especially the southern side of thing, you can get labeled a bigot and other such things. Weird place Charleston, but well worth the visit if your willing to take the time to do alittle digging for the unvarished and not the politically correct or tourist friendly version of things. So save some coin and make some time and come see the place you'll be more than welcome. Charleston has been voted one of if not the friendlist cities in the country for a long time now. So make when you can.
  3. CapnWilliam I understan completely feeling the same way myself. I'm like my parents, I would would much rather shoot an animal with a camera than a gun. Though my mom used to hunt when she was young mainly to have food on the table. Grandpa was a pretty good at being a grand father but as I learned later on he wasn't the best father or husband. If the family didn't go hunting from time to time they might have gone hungry. We still have alot of back in the woods around this state I just don't know anyone who owns them to let me on. I'll keep looking into it because I'ld like to learn to hit the target myownself. To many Clint Eastwood and John Wyan movies tend to make you do that. If I find someplace I'll let you know. Maybe when you can make it down here again we can try it out. Stranger things have been known to happen.
  4. Aye Tito, I believe they still do, although I think heard something about it moving to another port so I'm not quite as sure as before. I'll check in on it for you. I do know that the co-director of the Charleston Maritime Heritage Foundation (can't find his name at the moment) has participated in a couple of the events and if I'm not mistaken ( and I very well could be) has even won once. I'll have to look through my stuff and find it for you. I can tell you that in May of 2005 they will have the Charleston to Bermuda sail race. They plan on holding it every other year here. This one will be the fifth one ( again if I'm not mistaken ). Check out THE Spirit of South Carolina to find out more.
  5. If I maybe so bold as to pst my opinion, perhaps her name should remain unkown so that everyone can picture her for themselves. I freely admit that I'm no word smith like some on this forum but the air of mystery around this unnamed lady does add alot to her character and story. I look foreward to hearing more of her. P.S. Keep up the poetry it provides a great deal of insperation and visualization to some of us who might lack the talent to expess themselves in such a manner. ( I hope I got that right. )
  6. Capt. William since when do you need a reason to purchase a new flintlock? You just do. Sorry you wont be attending this year maybe next. By that time I may have me own flintlock and a place to go practice them at. As for not having the coin That I understand all to well which explains my own lack of firearms at the moment. Keep yer eyes open mate ye never know when a treasure ship might be passing by.
  7. Sorry I am to hear that Wolfy my dear, But by the looks of things ye have more going on out California way than around here in SC. To bad ye be way out there were having a tall ship festival here in Charleston( more details on other thread) Casabel and his good lady, Master Studley and the Pyrates of the Coast and Olaf are planning to attend. To bad ye can't be here too. If things go well this year the festival may become an annual event so put a few coins away and make yer way out here next year ye'll be more than welcomed. Plus with all the crews from the tall ships from around the world ye won't lack fer attention.
  8. Sorry for not answering sooner, tech problems. Let's see Casabel, Master Studley, Olaf and the Pyrates of the Coast, this is shaping up to be a very interestin festival! I'll be attending the last volunteer meeting before the festival tomorrow, and I'll try and update you here. Can't wait to meet you all here, Charleston could use a few more pirates. Things can get pretty dull around here sometimes. A few good pirates should shke things up a bit. See ya soon!
  9. CapnWilliam, Ye might not be to late, the festival is from June 17-20. It be free to the public so that helps with the dabloon shortage. I,ve posted more in the raids forum if ye be interested. I,ve just found out that Cascabel and his lady will be entertaining there. I know! Ye said ye was down here on business right? Just tell everyone you need to come back to tie up a few loose ends or that you think you left the stove on or something, then you can run-off to the festival.
  10. Cascabel, that be great news. Would ye be bringing that toy box of yours, the one with the blunderbeast and all?
  11. This thread be old but thar be a new lead in finding pirates in Chraleston, SC. In the Raid section I've posted new info for the Charleston Maritime Festival, one of the entertainments is a pirate and his wench. Would that same pirate or his good lady wench be at this port? Are you sitting quietly in a corner somewhere sipping yer rum or are ye belly up to the bar noisely chugging yer rum and not telling us where ye be from? Are ye the owner of the mysterious white van with the PIRATES license plates? If so speak out yer among freinds here. Whoever this pirate be I intend to meet up with him and his wench and recruite them to this here forum. Who knows if thar be more pirates like him here abouts maybe we can start a pirate revival in this sleepy little town, she do need a shot in the arm and piracy just maybe the thing. T'is a shame that so much history should go to waste or be forgotten. And if CapnWillaim be about ye may just get another recruite for yer Confederate Privateers that ye be setting up. Charleston was a major port for these rogues so ye'll have one more reason fer visiting. And if this festival takes off ye could find a fine port to preform or teach about the privateers role during the war of northern aggression.
  12. The Charleston Maritime Festival is coming soon, so I wanted to post an update of some of the events they'll be having. Art: There are at least 21 artist signed up to show their work so far. An artist's reception will take place the Thursday before the festival. Children's Area: They'll have wood boat kit's, face painting, a pirate and his wench entertaining(who could this be any idea's? and no it is not me.) and a jump castle. Exhibits-Marine: 15,10x10 tents with displays for sailing schools, wooden boat models, apparel, kayaks, ect. will be set-up. Exhibits-Wood Boats: 35 wooden boats are commited to be on display thru-out the festival grounds. Family Boat Building: 4 families have committed to this and they are still looking for more. ( Go to the web site listed earlier to find out more) Sunday will be the launch date for these boats. Food: Main concession tent with bascics, a seafood tent, a crepe stand, Italian ice carts, and other roaming carts with who knows what will be there. Merchandise: T-shirts, posters, tote-bags, ect. will be sold thru-out the festival. Music: Such bands as Killer, Whales and the Blue Dog's will be on hand. Some of this preformances may requier a $5 ticket to attend. They are also looking for mucicians to play during the festival. These people will have to be willing to play for whatever the collect in there hat, but it may worth it. The Spirit Of South Carolinia Shipyard: The shipyard will be open to visitors during the festival. Mark Bayne the master shipwright and his crew will be working on the Spirit so that vistors can see what goes into building a tall ship. Waterfront: A tent will be set-up on the boardwalk so people can sign up for the daily activities such as, free sail boat rides, rowing a traditional Charleston Mosquito gig or try their hand at rowing a Dragon Boat, there will also be remote controled sailboats on hand for display and demostrations. Tall Ships: Last but not least, at least 10 tall ships, from around the world, have commited to participate in the festival. They will be open for tours for visitors while in town. On the Monday after the festival the grand sailout will begin a approximitly 10 o'clock that morning. This is what I've recieved so far about the festival. For more information try the web-site listed previously. This thing has the potential to really become something big any and all help or suggestions would be welcome. So forget going to grandma's, play hookie for work or just drop what your doing and come to Charleston and support this festival and have a great time to boot.
  13. T'is a fine CD to be sure of, from first to last. You be a lucky lad to be gettin it. Along with "All For Me Grog" , " The Devil's Son" be my personal favorites. Good listening to ya.
  14. We Are Pirates We are pirates, Brave and bold. We sink tall ships, In the oceans cold. We make the seven sea, Run bright red. Until our mommy's, Call us home to bed. As told to Longarm by his father Forkbeard.
  15. I've got ta hand it to ya mate, You've got one hellova imagination and a great sense of humor.
  16. Ye'll be more than welcome mate. See you then.
  17. Ye make fine coats lass. I best be dropping hints to the wife about a possible present fer a poor pirate she might happen to know. Keep up the fine work.
  18. That be an interesting idea ye bring up. Where can one find some of this information for oneself. If the treasure cashes were found in the city it's self might it have been some merchants stash hidden from the pirates that visited there? Or, maybe hidden from the local tax collecters ( they be much worse than pirates). I think the hardest part fer pirates to be burying plunder is that to many of yer mates might know where it be and might come back after ye be gone and dig it back up. Not that hideing it couldn't be done mind you but it wouldn't be easy to do it alone and not look suspicious doing it. But than again Henry Morgan was buried in a secrete spot so as no one knows where he lies. Not wanting his grave to be molested or robbed he gave order for a secrete burial. To this day no one knows where he be buried. Yer right when ye say that humans covet and hide things that appeals to them. And why wouldn't a lowly deckhand not want to save up his cash so as to improve his station in life. And any captian that doesn't think about the time when he may no longer command a ship may well be a fool. Keep us informed on anything else ye may find.
  19. That be a good site mate. How did ye find it? I'll need ta spend more time thar later, and by the clip I needs ta be looking harder for more piratical type movies as I don't recognise some they be showing. Any ideas on what some of them may be?
  20. I just wanted to add some of the events scheduled for the festival. Tall Ship Tours, Family Boat Building Model Sailboats, Wooden Boat Exhibits Free Sail Boat Rides, Childrens Activities Artist Market, Shipyard Tours Marine Exhibits, Live Music Low-Country Foods, Evening Parties Some of the ships attending are: USCG Eagle, The Pride of Baltimore, Mircea from Romania, Cuauhtemoc from Mexico, and Gloria from Columbia. For more information on the tall ships contact: Jeanne Aichele at 843-805-3052 or e-mail her at jaichele@charlestowncvb.com. If you want more use the link posted already. If you visit The Spirit of South Carolina you can learn more about the Chareston to Bermuda V sail race on May 14, 2005
  21. My choice would have to be the cannon. I may not get to play them as much as I'ld like but there's nothing like the sound of a cannon going off to get your heart pounding. In fact when I die I want to be cremated and have me ashes loaded into a fully charged cannon and fired out onto the sea. Just make sure ye fire me out on the leeward side of the ship so as I don't come back to haunt ye.
  22. CapnWilliam If you do make back to Charleston sometime be sure to check out the library here. They have a large section devoted to the confederacy with plenty of books on the privateers who sailed from here as well as the blocked runners of the time. And don't forget that the crews of the Hunnley are buried here as well. Magnolia Cemetary can be a very interesting place to visit if your into southern history and old graveyards.
  23. Let me know if ye can make it I'ld be glade to meet up with a fellow pirate. I'm not sure if me new job will give me those days off, but the boss is alright so I doubt that there will be much of a problem. I'm looking to get back into volunteering at the "Spirit of South Carolina" anyway I'ld be glade to show ye and your Pirate Queen around.
