  1. Bess, Ye might need to remind Jamaca Rose of the Keith Richards rumor as the good crew of NQG, are reporting that it be true.
  2. You might be a pirate if... You find yourself burying your wifes jewlery in the backyard for no apparent reason. Your wish list includes pillaging and plundering Panama.
  3. Many a pirate might show his irregiousy at sea but quite few found religion when faceing the hangman. Sailing also seemed to be a family tradition. If ones grandfather was a sailor and he wore an earring, chances are when ones father went to sea he to wore an earring, maybe the same earring. So following family tradition the next generation would go to sea and wear an earring, forgetting why it was worn in the first place, and wearing it because that's just what sailors in the family did. This is just a theory and, it still depends on the country and culture the sailor came from.
  4. Might the belief in a sailor wearing a earring to pay for his funeral coinside with the belief in placeing coins over the eyes of someone who died to pay the ferryman? I'm not a scholar by any means but this practice continued long after christianty came into being and the belief of a ferryman that carries the soul into the afterlife, fell out of favor. I wonder if this question can ever truely be answered to everyones saticfaction. Sailors and pirates are not known for their writings and documentation skills, with the exception of the ships log. But these tend to be short and to the point with concerns of the weather, tides, currents, and anyother matters having to do with the direct operation and safety of the ship and crew. No one wrote about who was wearing what or how so in so looks terrible in that color, or that that outfit is out of date and makes what,s hisname look fat. Customes, fashions, fads and superstitions come and go, and can change from one year to the next or, even from one individual to another. Who can really keep track of all the changes and differences that are happening all around them all the time? But, healthy debate can educate and strengthen the mind so not knowing can sometimes be a good thing.
  5. Thanks for web sit KW. Is there anyway a time might be set up where you and some of the crew down there might meet-up at one of the cams down there, to show off to some of us left behind? It's always interesting to put faces to names.
  6. I know pirates used weapons and torture on their victims but, using lawyers is almost to gruesome to think about. I almost feel sorry for the poor S.O.B. , almost.
  7. Unfortunately I won't be able to make this year, baring a small miracle, so would someone be so kind as to post the site of the web-cam you've been talking about? I'ld at least like a look at what I'm missing.
  8. Damn, to think I used to live in Maryland and, I have a real itch for more ink. Oh well, I've still got a mate or two up that way so it might be about time for a visit. Can't wait to see more of your work.
  9. It's forty-two fer me. I wonder if I'll ever growup?
  10. In the trail records of Blackbeards crew wasn't the name Thatch used by his crew? It may not be his true name but, it is interesting to see what those that sailed with him called him. Maybe Thatch came from the thickness of his beard, refering to the thatch on a roof?
  11. He was a true scholar indeed. We'll miss his knowledge and wisdom. God bless ye mate.
  12. Just make sure when ye learn ta write, that you be sure to write slow as I don't read to fast.
  13. How about: Gallows Bait? Hangman's Noose? Cold Steel and Hot Lead? Shot an Steel? Black Frigate? Dutchman's Curse? Black Iron Reevers? Killdevil Rum? Powder Burn?
  14. Sir, yer way with words never ceases to amaze me. Raises tankard. To your health sir!
  15. Congratulations! It likes you've done very well for yourself plunder and mate wise. Be sure to send your story to Jamaica Rose at NQG. They're collecting stories and ideas for people who wish to have a pirate themed wedding.
  16. Check out some of the threads in Captain Twill, there are several listings of vendors. Some of our most venerable gunners post there as well and are most willing to help out new commers.
  17. I don't know if you can still get it but NQG had in it's merchants list a listing for "Pirates! The CD-ROM". On it you'll find two desktop themes. One is the same one posted by PyratePhil, without all the bugs and hassle.
  18. Afraid the pics. didn't come thru for me, still are ye sure the room is fer the little one and not yerownself? Yer wife might get mad if she finds you spending more time playing in the baby's room than the baby. All in all best of luck luck to ye and yours.
  19. Profesional costumer or not That is great work. I can't wait to see the whole thing.
  20. I posted this along time back, but the book is well worth the read so I'll let ye know about it. "Grania" by Morgan Llywelyn is a fantastic look at Grace O'Malley. Though it be historical fiction it's hard to tell where history ends and fiction begins. Llywelyn researches her subject in great depth and then uses her writing talents to bring them to life and fill in the gapes that history leaves out or forgets. If you can't tell she is one of my favorite authors and I can't recomend her books enough. So try it and let me know how you like it or not.
  21. Aye Paisley, these be some of the same ships that were here in Charleston. They left here monday (under not so fair conditions) to continue the next leg of the race up to Philly. Do not miss it if ye can. The ships are really something to see, and the crews are very friendly and hospitable. I here the next race will be on the west coast so ye may not see some of them for quite a spell.
  22. Cascabel it was great ta meet ya mate. I hope ta be seeing you and yer darlin again soon. Grendal, me, Cascabel, and some of me shipmates (no names fer now) at The Spirit Of South Carolina were talking about how best to take her after she be put in the water. Would ye be interested in such an excursion? Dates fer sailing keep changing so thar be plenty of time fer planing.
