Rum, you dont have carry as much Miquelet or doglock?
-
I would guess it is assembled from a few different pieces onto a newer stock however when they cut the stock they failed to inlet the triggerguard and left no provision for a ramrod either.
-
Thats putting it nicely, the one Im going to reproduce in time is a pistol that is most likely a pistol built in Brescia and built for export. I have most of the pieces close to being ready to start taking molds off of which will be the first step.

Italy and Spain were the 2 main sources of miquelet locks during the GAoP roughly with much od the med (northern africa) developing similar miquelet locks at a later date. The Italian pieces typically employed a main spring that pushed down onthe foreward piece of the cock. The Spanish locks typically pushed up on the back of the cock. I am currently working on reproducing an Italian piece that is comparable. Swab

The difference between tattoos and scars . . .Scars are tatoos with better stories

Feel free to move it, from my research the "stock" employed is used to be braced against the knee. Many appear to be post GAoP employing many different kinds of lock although almost all are a blunderbuss barrel which is very short. Is it fair to assume they may of taken older locks and fabricated barrels and stocks for their application? If not where did the barrels come from?

Any idea when these first started showing up as well as when they became more commonplace?

As for myself I was just "swab" with my friends until they decided the rank was a little to belittleing and I needed the rank of Captain, however owning too many boats I couldn't be simply Captain thus Commodore Swab was born but Im still just swab with friends

hair beads and non realistic garb
Commodore Swab replied to PLUNDERING PYLOS PARKER's topic in Captain Twill
Just to clarify the gold chains I mentioned being worn was wealth being brought back from the new world to Spain. If memory serves jewlery was not taxed so if you desired to return with "duty free" items you made sure it was jewlery and not coins or gold bars. This jewlery would be something that had worth in the old world (gold, gems, etc). -
Would you be bringing precious? You combined with beads precious and your cane might be too much, although you could use the tools as an improved cane By the way my lock showed up yesterday same as yours, its a nice big long beautiful piece.

In regards of wearing currency many long gold chains were worn to avoid taxation. As Chrispy pointed out many coins have been found with holes punched into them. It seems natural to realize that it was accecpted to wear currency during the GAoP. As for what pirates may or may not of worn I can't say but if it was accecpted in the rest of society would they be that different? And for our next topic boot . . . (just kidding) Swab -
