Its obvious to me and all those around me that you know what your doing, it was spectacularly done. There will always be some city official or such that needs some convincing just a part of the business of public theater, still I have no doubt you can convince them. I have to agree with patrick one of my favorite moments was when Sterling started to chuckle. I really hope the Callahans saved that photo for a poster next year, the mob with the smiling Sterling in the noose.

I didn't even think about that - my brother-in-law, bow hunts for the State of New Jersey - they call him to actually help thin the deer population. My sister is overrun with deer heads its actually really weird to sit in her living room, i'm always afraid Bambi's gonna come in any minute and kick my ass. Anyway... I bet i can get us some venison, don't know about the whole deer unless someone wants to pick the thing up. But I can get antlers and skins and probably some jerky and steaks, i'll ask him. Thanks Dutch...good idea, its not Florida deer, which is MUCH smaller... still its deer...anyone know any FLA hunters? Oh and regarding the navigation -- YEAH -- I was but then I'm a Navy geek that never did any more than I had to back then, so I found it fascinating, interested in chart making of the time too. Have been doing a little reading myself...thanks for spurring the interest.

I don't know if it was the authority in your tone in this post but this is the first photo of you where you DON'T look like a teddy bear. (salutes the Dogge' - sir yes sir) It is a marvelous piece of theater, as well as a lesson about our past. It's definitely something to leave people thinking about who we are as human beings. I think exploring the social impact in an open dialogue with the crowd afterward is a great educational tool. I mean to start a dialogue about the psychology of mob mentality and the reasons these things were performed publicly..WOW!!! I have to agree my only thoughts afterward concerning performing it in front of a public audience of adults and children was that the humor in some instances may be considered in bad taste. I know we're a bunch of artists who are fascinated by the whole thing so the humor is amusing to us, I have to admit I really enjoyed it! .... but my first thought would be that in broad daylight in the middle of a festival more people would be offended by the HUMOR than they would by actual hanging. Historically it is a heavy part of our past especially in these parts and to make a joke of it concerned me more than the thing itself. I think that would be more likely to get people on our backs. Also I still think Harry's suggestion of doing it in Mallory is a great idea, might save a lot of State Park hoops and paperwork, not that we wouldn't have some with the city. It would draw attention to the even as well.

Some of the research I've done strictly on materials of the time said that a chamois type leather was very commonly used in the era. There are some museum pieces and some paintings that they used as an example. It was a really informative site. My thought it that leather actually breathes very well and would have been quite comfortable in the climate as opposed to wool, especially a soft chamois. Seeing as the Buccaneers were hunters leather would have been a surplus, I do know i read several sights that suggested they wore a great deal of animal skins as well. I will try and find the fashion and textiles site I found the other night and post the address here. -I thought bookmarked it but i can't find it now. I don't doubt cloth shirts would have been common. Still I wouldn't be surprised if the jacket and maybe even the pants as well as some of the accessories - haversack etc. were of skins. I'm doing more research - Chrispy wants to be a real Buccaneer next year, so I'm looking to outfit him to join you as well....besides all he'll eat is meat anyway so at least i'll know he's fed. actually Rusty this time --- LOL Animal on the Crusty

I read up on as much historic florida stuff as possible, and I can't remember where I read of someone coming upon a buccaneer encampment and said they wore clothes made from the skins of their kill or something of that ilk, does this sound familiar to anyone? the first pics in the thread look to me like they could very well be leather. a walk in the swamp around here will eat up jeans, with the sawgrass and palmetto, linen and the like would not hold up very well against the "stick full of hooks" as some old timers recall them. <Chrispy under Rusty's acct.

So true Jim... it may be why I so appreciated the metaphor and the irony at the hanging when as a side, Chrispy was asked his name by Robbie and, "Justice" was all he replied (being the blind man of course) Seems to me historically.. people have been quick to blame those, who at the end of their rope, scream out by lashing out. Rather than step back and assess the situation and throwing them a line, we are quick to tighten the noose. Robbie presented a good metaphor of government the other night. (hanging from Sterlings legs screaming "I'll help you. I'll help you") Seems to me out of shame counties and individuals are all too ready to take advantage of the mob mentality we've all witnessed. Yelling 'bad guy, bad guy" he struck us first. It clears the conscious somehow, placing the blame on the real victims takes the spotlight off the one presently being attacked. When the truth is everyones been wronged. We just keep overshadowing injustice with injustice. I don't know how we will ever make the world an equitable place there is so much greed and corruption, it seems to get worse everyday...still I believe and know there are conscious people who want to make a change. I think the best we can do sometimes is stand in the middle and make people dialogue until they find the common truth. Still some people will refuse out of there own agenda to see the others pain. So often people fail to see each other. Honestly the Somali's I feel for these people. I know what they are doing is a crime...terrorism, pyracy, its a crime...but isn't greed and hunger and poverty, a crime as well. so we have a world full of overlooked peoples, worse still countries that are slaves to the world economy.... It's no wonder they would only speak with a child, I'm sure they've learned there is no one else they can trust. ohhhhhh the world we've made! sigh

Just ask, I'd be happy to help...pm me DIOSA you TRICKSTER - getting Sterling to offer the PM.....I'll...... (faints again - fallings HARD on the floor -- Sterling watches her go down right in front of him) OUCH ... thanks Captain next time... well... I'll cheer louder.

ahem... like I said, Maddogge is VERY, VERY strong... he's even done it when I am dressed in full kit... my coat alone weighs a LOT.... You know Captain...actually... I was only trying to save you. I thought if I could get him to drop the rope... hmmm Can he do it if your in his Armor?? (Nell confused with the math tries to measure up how much Sterling in full kit with armor must weigh --- fans herself impressed with the Dogg's strength -- suddenly her fantasy is invaded by the picture of Madd Dogge sweeping Nigel off his feel) ROFL

I don't know if these need to be auctioned. My thought was we just sell them at set prices and the money goes to charity. We can make as many as we have the time or inclination to make. When they are gone they are gone. Price them according to time and materials. The person who made it could price it accordingly. We can make slight price adjustments if need be once we have them all together.
-
my thought was a Sterling silver noose.
-
Sterling your a tall drink of water, certainly no waif... Madd Dogge held you up there for a LONG TIME!! WOW he is freakishly strong... Nell: oooooh Madd Dogge help me!--- (starts to faint at the sight of the hanging - MD drops the rope to save her) Opps sorry Sterling what can I say....a girl has to dream, and besides you were already dead (strains a cheesy grin)

If the Narrator were to announce prior to the hanging as he does prior to the trial it is indeed obvious it is an act of theater - the warning can even be put in the narration - Hanging Rackham in Mallory would bring attention to the event too. just another thought ....an Hey Diosa that would make Sterling...yours and Be's man at least for a day.
-
Animal I agree if we were to post in the program and a sign that announced the time of the hanging, as well as had a crier announce the hanging in advance people would be fair warned. It would be historically correct as well, seeing as hangings were public spectacle. We could put a parental warning in the programs and speech for the crier as well. I honestly think to say this can't be done for a public audience when you consider the gratuitous violence on TV and in film, is ridiculous. If its used as part of the historical re-enactment......maybe Sterling should play Rackham and we can hang him before we try Read and Bonney. That would certainly be true to history. Maybe we could extend that trial script and do the whole story. - just a thought.

I know he was planning to stay with his brother in the Keys for a few days before heading back north. Thanks Harry, now that you mention it I think I recall him mentioning that as well. I was starting to worry.
