HOLD FAST!!!!! DO NOT USE PINE TAR FOR FOOD SERVICE ITEMS! -
moose, slight problem, light and toss = incendiary device = home made bomb. while there will obviously be no powder loaded into said grenadoe all it would take is one worried gray hair (yes callenish I said gray hair- go ahead be offended :)) and one overzealous police officer to ruin your merriment. Lots of states have laws prohibiting incendiary and even imitation devices. At an event might not be a problem, but if your vehicle gets searched for some reason on the way home you got som splainin to do Lucy! Once that flammable object leaves your hand you own it and what ever is inadvertently burned. Firearms have safety areas to protect the public and us- this could be done with these as well. Now with that out of the way. A lot of us carry imitation iron grenadoes and I have not heard of anyone having any run ins. For what you need, A munition fusee would produce the result you are looking for, but they are the spoon and pin arrangement and your grenadoes would need to be ported to avoid pressure build up. torching one will not detonate it with the results your looking for. A generic 1" smoke bomb would result in your smoke, but i'm not sure how to get the bang. you can't really get it without having the incendiary as well which is what will cause problems for you.

think outside the box mate. Pirates were first sailors/ mariners. It was common practice in the European Navies to hang mutineers and the like aboard ship while at sea without a shoreside trial. The captain would oversee a trial by senior officers- i'm not sure if he would directly be involved in the trial though.

oi jim, we'll be thinking of you and wishing a speedy recovery. So if mission slips does this mean you wont be able to talk??? hmmmmm, best tell Cousin Robbie to not nudge the table.

Ahoy shipmates! The forms are completed and the add is being proofed. We will be ready to start processing paperwork by Easter. So here is how its going to work. If you are interested in attending, send me a PM or E-mail and I'll send the forms to you when I get word to release them. If you are affiliated with a crew, tagging along with a crew, or making one up just for this event, please complete just one form for the group. If you are flying solo, just fill one out for yourself/family. Please Please Please register before the deadline! Showing up the day of will just get you charged $$$$ to attend and no place to camp. Provided you are willing to do a bit of work to earn your keep, learn something and have fun, noone is going to be turned away.

was a great event. Outside of the award for cooking I think Archangel did very well for the first time out. Lessons were learned for future events. Great company all the way around! Huzzah!!!!!

i still maintain we don't have lots of documentation of straw hats is it was either so common noone worried about documentation or they all blew off and are sitting at the bottom of the sea. Knowing what conditions were like aboard ships, I would love to know how they were stored so as to be beautiful when the artist did their renderings.

great resource, thanks. and to think the original price was 25c.

from a reenactor who has no kid standpoint- as long as the venue is ok with it and the parents have control, I don't mind seeing, or having wee ones around. I'd much rather listen to a wee one crying and settling in for the night rather than drunken catterwalling or screeching bagpipes that never seem to end.

gunner, whats renniasance waxing?

moose, i'm not sure what does work but I can tell you what doesn't work! I sold a perfectly good petersoli queen anne for two that had been acid washed and browned- they looked great. The browning/blueing "supposedly" will not adhere well to the finish unless washed. After a few weeks of sitting in their cases, with silica, I found two well rusted locks and barrels. Every few months, I have to neutralize the metal with a baking soda paste and spend more time than I should oiling. They are also more prone to collecting powder residue fowling the vent and pan. Thats one of those lessons learned I guess.

thanks bo! any offers for the DMC would be great! If anyone needs anything held until they get here, or held over for blackbeard let me know and i'll get you an addy. We have had some great offers for living history. Salty is going to be doing some potting and gunner is doing some joinery. We have a guest presenter, hopefully two, in the works for friday that I really hope works out! I think we may even have a sea scout troop joining us- dressed out and all! I think we all just collectively lost any hope of winning the olympics- i think i'm going to have to put a youth handicap in place.

FWIW, this is probably going to be the only year we do this as the Blackbeard Festival returns to its normal time slot next year, the same weekend it seems as Drakes raid, which creates the same problem next year...... hmmmmm what to do next year though........

here piggy piggy piggy come to dinner. a fine specimen has been donated to the cause. bill and cookie will be doing their magic. Saturday evenings entertainment is going to be a concert by the York River Symphony. The selected choices are Pirates of Penzants in the first set and a maritime/ adventure theme the second. Intermission will be a benefit auction. we are looking for goodies to auction off. Fridays education block is being lined up, its looking to be a bit different than the norm AND hopefully we may have some guests from a research project in the area sharing some information as well as bringing some items to look at. If this one pans out, i'm still not going to share- but it will be worth your while! Whats the cost for all this you ask? Your time on Saturday for living history. A donation to the foundation of what you think is worth while to you would also be appreciated. Remember, once costs are covered- anything else goes to the construction of Luna, which will benefit us all in the end.

April 10, 2010 | 6th Annual Fells Point Privateer Day 2010
Dutchman replied to Island Cutter's topic in April
the foundation is headed that way. 1st mate matt and duncan head up their respective areas. Duncan does the living history side of things. He doesn't post much, but he does watch so just fire away if you have anything for him. I'll be talking to him later on today or tomorrow anyhow and will make sure he pokes his head in. -
bump- hope to see any local, or maybe not so local, folks who are interested in the project or any activities we're involved in on wednesday. the doors are always open.
