  1. Oh I am SO sorry. See, I do happen to know the difference between fantasy and reality. I would love a world in which Supers could have wiped out 9/11 and other tragedies. But that is neither here nor there. Christine... I am on this board because I AM A M'in F'in PIRATE! I am not a fanboy! I am not a Deppaholic or a Bloomer or whatever folk call themselves nowadays. I have been doing pirate reinactments and related activities for years. I have been a professional pirate since 2001. That's why I'm on this board. Do I hate Potc? Have I once said so? No. Did I not say that it will in fact surpass S-M3? Yes I did. So if you think this board is just for potc "fangirls" then you are in fact in the wrong. Just like modertors who think they can abuse their powers. 'Nuff Said
  2. What kind of rum are you drinking in Neverland?!?! Superheroes are not about fun. Superheroes exist to save lives and to fight evil. Evil kills that which you love and threatens really bad things. Spider-Man, being from the 1960s predates Emo. Instead he was the first super to have a conscience and inner monologue. Instead of "oh let me put on colorful tights and fight Hitler and stop giant robots". You are way off the mark. Batman and Batman Returns did gangbusters beaucoup box office. Batman Forever and Batman and Robin tanked horribly because they tried to be more "bright and cheerful". Why should Batman be cheerful? He watched his parents shot in the face when he was 9! His first Robin saw his parents fall from a trapeze! His second Robin was killed by a bomb! That is real life in action. That is evil and people fighting against it. Instead of Potc style "Barbossa and Davy Jones are kewl because they're evil" fanishness. Likewise the reboot, Batman Begins, did fantastically! You want an uplifting supers movie? Go watch Fantastic Four or The Incredibles. But they are definately not the norm for comic book style. Weepy and Emo.... sheesh. This coming from a Barbossa "Oooh look at me, I'm all goth and scary for a creepy old man" fangirl.
  3. Pirates ain't nice... and editing a post with "funny sayings" is pretty much not right on many counts
  4. Yeah... check to see that we've discussed the living Frak out of something before you post about it again.
  5. Wrong. Spider-Man 3 (there's a hyphen there people) is a very good close to the trilogy. And it's the best overall Marvel Trilogy to date (versus X-Men and Blade). Of course Spider-Man is "weepy". He has always been a angst ridden, torn, character. A good boy who wants to do better and seeing his life and family and friends torn asunder by his powers and actions. Who wants to see a perfect superdud, or a black wearing momma's boy with too much money and not enough anti-depressants. Far better than a Drunk, Crazy, liar and thief, IMHO. That said... I like Jack Sparrow and believe potc3 will pimpslap Sm3 up and down the street.
  6. Hopefully the Pub Crawl will be Saturday evening again and not in the middle of the afternoon like it was last year.
  7. We of Blackwood's Buccaneers will be there! Yar! This will be our 3rd year given the folk our unique blend of Hysterical History and Musical Mayhem. And of course drinkin' up all the booze in tha' county!
  8. I got my latest issue (Which I believe was the Dec/Jan issue) this past Friday. Patience is a virtue.
  9. Note to Long Tom: No... the "Cult of Jesus" had more than 12 members. He had 12 "teachers" or "deacons" or just "Bodyguards", but to call the Disciples the only members... well it wouldn't be a major religion if no one believed and followed, eh?
  10. Robert E Howard? I know him well. Creator of Kull, Conan, and Soloman Kane... contemporary of HP Lovecraft. Mmmm... he wrote some good twisted stuff.
  11. a. 5 b. 1 c. Historic, but a fantastic twist since I'm sure they'd frown on me doing actual pirate type activities with me sword... d. Escapism
  12. If it's just a "costume" and she's not planning on history... then go for Denim. But beware that she will get dirty looks, scowls, and the like. Fact: Denim is linen. It is Linen de Nim region of France. So it did exist. I myself have a lightweight denim appearing vest I wear to reinactments. (I have documentation so they cower). But if you wear denim like I said... naysayers, etc.
  13. I found all the Idiots and Dummy type books for bare bones information. However I've also found them all to be mistaken or perpetuating stereotypes. For instance the Idiots Guide to Professional Wrestling is laughably error-filled to say the least... While the Guide to Classical Guitar is actually useful for the first 6 months of learning how to play. But the Complete Idiots guide for Pirates is useful if your primary of piracy is entertaining the younger set...
  14. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (or LXG) was a load of dreck. It would have been better had i not read the comic book it is based off of. Save yourself the trouble and read the comics.
  15. Per'aps me home port be Innsmouth and i be of the Marsh family... Think Davy Jones but bigger, nastier, and hungrier.
  16. It's not the Kraken. It is Cthulhu. He who lies dead in Ryleh dreaming. Soon he will return! Ia Ftaghn!
  17. If you were familiar with www.hotpiratebabes.com you would already know the cover they used. Pirates Magazine issue 3 was a total waste of ink. Got mine in the mail yesterday. Waste of ink I say again. If I wanted to be assailed with more PotC pictures I would check out fanboy/girl sites.
  18. Ahoy mateys! Just a heads up that Searle's Raid O' St Augustine be comin' up March 3rd. It be a historical reinactment. So they will not take any guff. No skull n crossbones. No plastic. No Jacks, Wills, Lizs, Daveys, or Barbossa types. We'll be at Th' Fountain O' Youth park from 10am until the raid begins around 6 or 7 or 8. Seems pirates didn't have watches so it always changes when it will kick off. Hope ta see some new faces thar.
  19. I'm looking for a good reasonable (up to $50) pirate type vest. It doesn't have to be completely period, but it shouldn't be made out of Satin with a huge skull and crossbones on it either.
  20. Yeah and R2-D2 is a battlebot basically... I got the opportunity to talk with the 3 at Dragon*Con last year. Grant's 10 year plan for the future is giant mecha robot fights in the desert.
  21. Grant and Tory also have worked for ILM/Lucasfilm. Grant was responsible for building Astromechs (like R2-D2) for the prequels and Tory worked on some designs...
  22. Also sighted from Zizzle are animated style repaints of the figures. Such as Davy/Will, Pintel/Ragetti, etc
  23. I always heard that pirates would wear such jewelry because it represented a last ditch amount of money. But I dunno about the eyesight thing... ask Captain Twill about that. I always heard that it was so, but also a seaman's myth.
  24. Evidence? No... but that's what makes it a myth. That seagoers would believe a certain way of piercing the ears enhanced the eyesight.
  25. Nightvision for spotting objects or the like, not for combat. Maybe a nice safe cove or port that isn't lit. How about a myth about piercing one's ears to give them better eyesight. That at least is a period myth.
