  1. In July, I'll get the joy of meeting BOTH Bagley AND Blackjohn! Also, ya'll will get the joy of meeting me for the first time, if anyone really wants to . . . - It isn't like I'm a pirate celebrity, like Bagley, John, or even Mission . . . Between now and then, I'm getting my kit together, so I'll be presentable at Lockhouse. The shirt is done and one navy sleeveless jacket (made from a heavy wool remnant bought at 96 District Storehouse for $4) is done (first buttonholes). I will make a second sleeveless jacket in a more "airy" wool, for the summer heat shortly. Also, I plan to trousers and slops too. More buttonholes to come . . . I'll throw on a belted plaid and post up picts of the shirt and navy sleeveless jacket tonight, or at least that is my intent.
  2. At the moments . . . Rob Roy MacGregor: His Life and Times, by W H Murray On the Trail of Bonnie Prince Charlie, by David R Ross (light, casual reading)
  3. The quote in Master and Commander seems to be; "Come all you bold young thoughtless men. A warning take by me. And never leave your happy home. To sail the raging sea" The links seem to be not to any specific song, I can find through Google: http://www.freewebs.com/oldshipmate/misc.htm Here looks to be the best I have found: http://www.folkinfo.org/songs/displaysong.php?songid=122 Maybe these lyrics?
  4. AH! There you are, Son of Jason! Are you still mad at They Might Be Giants? They killed Jason off and countless screaming Argonauts . . . http://www.paradise-engineering.com/quotat...inyoursoul.html
  5. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (I didn't think anyone would take that seriously . . . I didn't.)
  6. I thought it. Wasn't going to say it, but thought it. Legwarmers under striped pop-piratey socks . . .
  7. I was cursed. Then, I went to school, earned degrees in subjects involving heavy reading, curse reversed.
  8. As I hope to start a PhD in history in the none-to-distant future . . . I hope I'm not screwed. History used to be one of the most important subjects in academics. It was the subject that tied all the rest together and the ONLY one wherein math, science, literature, politics, and everything else was tied together and interacted. History: the study of everything, how everything interacts, and has interacted through time.
  9. Only if "short" is 6'2" and over 200 pounds . . .
  10. In a dark corner booth a figure in Scots plaid waves his hand low in the air . . . "See me, you do not." Then pauses and follows with, "Welcome you know you are. Pull up a stool and join the fun you will."
  11. Much depends on how it is made. If by hand, each should cost roughly the same. (At least from what I've seen.) If created my someone like Atlas Flags in Atlanta (well, the Tucker suburb) makes embroidered, appliqued, or printed ones, the cost is cheaper with volume. (Though, that route is less authentic than handsewn.)
  12. Zoe Bell: The Stuntwoman (As featured in Deathproof . . . )
  13. You can get vellum easier than hemp paper??? In the US anything hemp is hard to find. That includes hemp rope, hemp fabric, and hemp paper. I have a friend that makes hemp kilts. He has to import the material from Canada. He also has had to argue with cops and customs that it isn't drug paraphernalia . . . Sometimes, the US makes blanket laws that sound good on the surface, but also imply in many unintended and rather odd ways. Though, modern vellum isn't always what vellum used to be. Real vellum is paper made from a sheet of very thin leather. It is near indestructable, often reused in ancient and medieval times. One document (forgot which one), it was discovered by new modern testing techniques, had been used many, many times. What they would do is to wash off the ink and reuse the vellum. Modern vellum is a plastic-cotton paper, made to look and feel like vellum, but isn't actually vellum. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vellum (It is easy to read and, in general, fits with the facts I know.) I'm not sure which form of vellum was meant in the early 1700s, though. I assume it was actual vellum. I don't know where o buy actual vellum . . .
  14. Consider the 10/11 ones sold! (PM sent)
  15. If the shoes are PC style, I'd be interested. I don't know what they are, so will have to wait and see them. My shoes vary from 10-11 or so (based on shape). Depending on how they are made, they could fill-in until better ones are bought. (Shoes are my next purchase after money starts flowing again.)
  16. So, you mean the last 15-20 individual posts, rather than the last threads? I've seen forums using both.
  17. While on it . . . Were letters of marque all hand written? Were some printed too? - Just wondering. I know the press was quite common by then and books, pamphlets, fliers, booklets, and all sorts of printed material were very common. What about common "form" documents like letters of marque?
  18. Well . . . Also a few m&m's while it is cooking . . .
  19. I'm cooking a pizza right now. (Tombstone, Garlic Bread Supreme)
