  11. now i have heard...well read somewhere and cant find the damn book...that the more shots fired...the barrel on some of the earlier muskets....would loosen up....so much in fact...that one would only have to "tamp the butt against the ground to set the ball"....course this was going on the asumption that no patch was being used either...and i believe thats where the patch was used to counteract this tendencey... sooooo.....not using a ramrod in a battle scenario where several shots in succesion are used....seems accurate as well as historical.....?!?!?!
  12. of all the people we wantin to see in that funeral...yer not at the top o' da list.... oh yer on the list.... ....just not at the top...
  13. but becareful of having tooo many regulations for your event....i have seen to many events run to the ground for being to much over your shoulder and too strict where it was no longer fun....and keeping away good experienced talent....but i also agree...safe is safe....and newbies always need more attention.....i could stand here all day with the "on the other hand" shtick.... i'm not sure how i feel about the one guy checkin all weapons idea yet....i know several events do....others leave it to the saftey officers of the individual groups....i can see the ideas behind both...still thinkin on that one.... the shooter "SHOULD" know his weapon and its quirks better than the guy checking....if hes done this for any real length of time....but how to accomodate the "newbie" on the feild...seems like the trick..we have always put a new guy next to an old experienced shooter...to guide him durring a scenario....so far works pretty well....but thats in for the bigger groups who have experienced guys in it...not a new and upcomming group... so ...i seem to be rambling agian....nevermind
  14. Now this is something our group has had a lot of success with in a "Wild West" style venue...where damn near everybody wants to shoot BP..... Only those who have attended the mandatory saftey meetings every morning....would get a pin....something simple...to wear on a lapel.(or somewherenondescript but visable to other participants)...the pins(or ribbon) would notify all other participants that not only are they also a registered participant but has also attended the mandatory saftey meetings..... and anyone NOT wearring a pin or ribbon...was NOT to be handling a weapon.....thus using the participants themselves to help police the attendees..... if anyone was found to have a weapon and was not pinned they were directed to one of the host group(who were pinned in a different ribbon and thus easily recognisable)...and either registered as a late participant, given a saftey standards...or asked to remove said weapon from grounds(if not a participant)...or escorted from grounds. this worked beutifully....for our 6-10 "saftey" officers turned into 150 saftey officers...... just an idea that worked for us.

    Cheeky

  16. i agree with the fellows above...and reitterate...i would believe the "old re-enactor lore"...and NOT shoot it live....unless ya give it to someone you didna like very well to fire first.... ...just in case..... but should do well for blank firring....i had a couple , a couple years back...had some soft parts, used kassenite for the frizzin....always a nice sparker after that. still, all in all,,,,nice gun

  19. awww dutchie-poo.....flyin aint hard...its actually a lot of fun...espescially when on the flight into keywest...on a small one engine prop....actually it said crop duster...with a line thru it.....they had to weigh all of us....then move some from one side to the other....made me sit in the middle....had a passenger sit up front in the co-piolet seat....asked him to hold the map....kept askin where we were....passenger looked a bit nervous and pale...even had mid flight cocktails.....from a cooler under the 3rd seat....we had to share 3 cans of coke....and a half eaten mars bar.....when we came in for a landing....they asked us first to be really really still....then quickly everybody lean to the left!!!!....we were just about to land...almost touchdown.....then the piolet said..."crap"...and piulled up realy hard....and started flyin again...he said....damn...wrong airport...they all look the same from up here....maybe i should have filled her up......???? and you think i'm kiddin???
  20. Fencing and Stage Combat are two different animals.....and dont git along very well so kinda depends what ya plan on doin with it??? if ya always had a yeaning to learn the fine art and sport of fencing...without a hammer...then by all means take the classes....they will give you a understanding of the proper feet work, stances and manuveres used in sword play...... but ....but.....if ya plan on ussin this knowledge to engage someone on the re-enactment battlefield...in front of the audience...then i would caution against it...and re-commend a stage-cobat class instead....which if its worth its salt...will also teach ya the baisic feet work, stances and manueveres of sword play.... the difference you ask???(didn't ask?? tough i'm goin tell ya anyway) stage is for the stage....all moves are more open....telegraphed...obvious...and safer(means no hitting each other ......much).....Fencing.....moves are hidden from your opponent....goal to hit....while stage goal is to pretend to hit(big difference). i have found those that learned to stage fight first...then go into fencing found it an easier time...then to fence then learn to pull back and learn stage combat?!?!? so again....depends on your intensions....and your character you wish to portray for example....captain ,Lt, or merchant man....may have learned fencing as part of his tutelage.....while an able boddied seaman...would not have the same learnin...and most likely more of a brawler....hence more toward the stage then fencing..... ultimately....it would be nice to learn both.....as long as you can seperate the two..to be able to do both....but several people end up not being able to either for the two discplins git in the way of each other. but as far as historical....both fencing and stage combat...is based on actual moves, attacks and defenses used durring our time periods.....only difference being whats used for safety????fencing padded jacket, mask gloves etc......while stage uses choreographed moves, ques, and a saftey "barrier" or area that the sword dosent cross etcetcetc..... soooooo.....what ya plannin on doin???
  21. all came in but mine....i am told of the 2 pair ordered....only 1 pair arrived.....a pair of lefts....hopeing for a pair of rights...sometime in early june.....
