  1. Deacon, I hear ya there .. talk about your double circles! Plus the price and living in another "right to work" state (Ok). Kinda makes it kind of a moot point. But, one must have dreams, no? :) Thanks for the info, it is appreciated! With Respects, Cap'n Emerald
  2. Bess, For those o' us who dinnae know, how does one contact the SAG an' inquire as tae "membership" within the union? Thanks e'r so much for the information. With Respects, Cap'n Emerald
  3. Pearl, Thanks for the wishes of luck. I have a feeling though, that the typical humidity and heat of Texas will be with us sooner than any of us expect! Cap'n Emerald
  4. Thomas, I and m' crew will be there as we are performing on "The Buckaneer's Wharf" stage. We are, "The Ladies of the Salty Kiss" - an all female, improv comedy troupe. I look forward to seeing a fellow Pyracy PubMate at faire! Last weekend was not all that bad considering the monsoons that swept over us. Hopefully the next five weekends are much better and more condusive to pyratical fun! Slainte, Cap'n Emerald
  5. Born in N.E. Oklahoma (USA); raised between Oklahoma, Brownsville, Tx/Matamoras, Mex. Traveled a great deal all over the country but still have home port in Ok. Good to see such a diverse mixture from around the world. Cheers to ya all! Cap'n Emerald
  6. Pyrate - Nay, Canterbury shire does not lie near or upon a river (in all actuality, it lies in Bonner Springs, Ks). Maestro is a director but as of yet, I have had nothing to complain about, he has been wonderful to myself and my crew. Hope to see ya'll out there this fall - Labor Day weekend through Oct 17 Cap'n Emerald
  7. As many of ya know, I own & manage a stage show group for Renaissance Faires. As such, I am attempting to find a suitable steamer trunk or a trunk of similar ilk to stash all of our props and such in. I have searched Ebay and found some hopefuls but nothing very serious. I was wondering if you lot knew of a better place to go to find a trunk that will fit the bill (and the budget) and that I won't up and die over if it gets demolished during use. Thanks ever so much, Cap'n Emerald
  8. Ryann, Travel safely and find the time to enjoy your trip! Hope things settle down in the moving department for ya soon! Cap'n Emerald
  9. Many years ago; I took piano lessons and centered my studies on Classical and Baroque pieces/composers. During Jr. High & first half of high school - played tenor trombone, taught myself E flat sax, played alto, soprano and sopronino recorders. Played in multiple ensembles and played recorder for the elementary choir. Took voice lessons and a few lessons in opera singing. Within the past two years, I've taught myself the rudimentary basics of bodhran playing but still have a long way to go before my sixteenths sounds right. Have played around with friends djembe and akshibo drums but nothing very serious. Still sing, both ren faire and karaoke (sp?) just lost the descant soprano and 1st soprano ranges due to my nasty smoking habit. Still have the 2nd soprano and lower range and still love to sing (retaught myself breathing techniques to allow for diminshed breath, go figure). My twain bits Cap'n Emerald
  10. Sorry Paisley! I does stink that we are "stranded" (for the now) in the middle of the country. Cap'n Emerald
  11. Like many others, I have always been fascinated with pirates; their history, myths, lore, books and movies. I love Grace O'Malley, Anne Bonny and Mary Read. I have always looked for strong female role models over the male ones. I love Errol Flynn for his timeless romantic portrayal of the n'r do well seafarer (that is fairly wicked with a blade) I was fascinated with the tragedy that befell Port Royal and felt sorrowed that I would never be able to see it with my own two eyes. I never took the chance and performed until I went to KCRF in 98. Then spent a couple of years playing merchant wench, the next season saw me portraying upper nobility (queen's handmaiden followed by Dutchess of Argyll). I have always drawn on my family's genealogy (and I can't do BFA to save my life!) and it has only added fuel to the fire, so to speak. In 2001, a friend of mine and I started toying with the idea of playing pirates because there weren't any at the local faires we both did. She fell in love and I let the idea sit idle for another time. In 2002 while preping for the nobility role, this character, Emerald Shaunassey swaggered her way firmly into my thoughts, complete with family history and background. Being the typical a*** retentive book worm I am, I delved back into the world of Pyracy and Irish History. Between an ancient book about Port Royal and the bits and pieces of history I could find on Grace O'Malley, the rest of Emerald was completed. I had hoped to debute Emerald in 2003 but was turned down because there were already "to many pirate like characters". So, being my usual devious self, I took a position with the local faire as a pub wench, Caitlynn O'Malley aka Emerald Shaunassey in disguise. One month later, I had several ladies hitting me up to do "that pirate thing" and if I was interested in doing a group of pirates for faires. After much deliberation and worrying (it was my storyline and "baby" after all), I agreed. The research began in true earnest Thus, "The Ladies of the Salty Kiss" were born and the rest ... is history. Now, just to keep up with the madness of it all! Haha! Ahhhh, Imagination ... what a wonderful neurosis. Cap'n Emerald
  12. Alright ya swarmy sea dogs, listen up! I am in need o' three stout heart'd women to be fillin' out the ranks o' m' crew. Tis a bit o' information ya do be needin' first though afore ya hit the gangplank. First: This crew be o' the renaissance (faire) frame o' mind. (Though we are branching out to include "Dinner Theaters" in our free time) Second: We hae two stage shows that we hire out ta perform plus we work in the streets with patrons (lane interactions) at ren faires. Third: Interested candidates would be takin' on set gem names and would need to provide rainment to match said gem stone color. Fourth: We are an all female privateer crew (legalized pirates for those that are curious) Sorry blokes, it's nothin' personal. Fifth: Interested candidates must be willing to attend all meetin's an' rehearsals (this is negotionable around family emergencies and mundane work only, naught other excuses are accepted) Sixth: The crew is headquartered out of N.E. Oklahoma; with our crew being scattered across Ok and Mo at present. Seventh: Though this be our hobby/dream job and offers pay and/or compensation, we are very serious about what we do and we all devote a great deal of our time to it. Interested candidates would need the same frame of mind. Eighth: Interested candidates would need to arrange for an in person audition (Preferred) or a video tape of you in garb and in action. If the party has no experience, that is alright, we can teach you all that you need to know (and then some) to portray a believable privateer. Once this step is completed; candidate would then have to attend a crew meeting in order to not only meet the crew but to also "wow" us in person (this is not optional). When chosen by a majority, new crew must spend time researching not only the time period but also their specific jobs (where applicable), this will be used on a nearly constant basis at an event. Ninth: Interested candidates that are squeemish, think camping is the Holiday Inn or who can not committee to the amount of personal time and investment, need not apply. I balance mundane work, college classes, owner/manager/webmistress duties and an ongoing relationship. Then, there is my son and family. If *I* can balance all these things; it should be considerable easier for others to balance work, life and the group. Several of the other ladies are also in school and they manage quite well. It can be done! :) Tenth: The 3 open positions are as follows: Sapphire, Bosun Onyx, Rigger Pearl, Cabin Wench Names & gem colors can not be switched or changed. Jobs are subject to candidates choice and "piratical education/research" (i.e., if someone has shown zero knowledge about being a Bosun and zero apptitude to do said research, you will not be cast as the bosun). This is not to be hateful but rather, to put the right woman in the right role so that you look and sound outstanding! Alright then, I think that do take care o' the necessary an' pertinent things. Those interested please send me private missive (e-mail) with the subject line of "TLotSK: Auditions" as I do not open missives from unknown senders (you n'r know when tis your arrest warrent, savvy?) If a certain color strikes yer fancy (dark blue, black or ivory) feel free to put that in the subject line as well. Include your name, why you want to be a privateer, why you think you would be the best woman for the job and your experience (if any). Be sure your missive location (email addy) is working properly; if missives are returned to me (bounce), I will assume you have split the country and are no longer interested in signing aboard ship. Do contact me post haste if you are interested as our season is about to get underway and you will want time to learn the shows and gather your horde 'round bout you. I look forward to hearing from interested parties. With Respects, Captain Emerald Shaunassey (Mundanely, the Owner & Manager of Keltic Dragon Productions: "The Ladies of the Salty Kiss") "Whaddya mean I cannae do that because I be Irish an a woman?!?!? Bloody well hold m' rum an watch this!"
  13. Lady Barbarosa, If you are interested in attending Ren Faires, might I suggest you take a look-see at www.faires.com (The Directorie of Renaissance Faires). Sir Michael Bonk has an extensive listing of faires from around the world. You can search by date or map for events that tickle your fancy. Cap'n Emerald
  14. Best guess I can offer ya is because he was one of them what took a gold piece from the chest and the last to pay the debt of blood to lift the curse. I assumed that it would take every piece of gold returned and blood from all who took a piece from the chest to lift the curse. Anyone else better informed?
  15. Thank ya kindly Black Jack, sorry 'bout the mix up atween your name and Bloody Jack's name! Cap'n Emerald Let it n'r be said that the Irish are best with names now whiskey on the other hand (and it's consumption) ....
  16. Thanks for the information Cap'n Morgan, actually kinda interesting. Cap'n Emerald
  17. That makes two of us who thought that, Cap'n Grey. Cap'n Emerald
  18. Happy Holidays to you as well Enchantress, may they be grand for (and to) ya!
  19. Thank ya kindly, Bloody Jack Rumba, thank ya! Enjoy the drinks to be sure Cap'n Emerald (She who can't read nor write worth a hoot)
  20. Joshua, your line of thought got me to thinking ... at the start of the movie, Leftenant Norrington made his speech about bringing down pirates where ever they are ... makes me wonder if his promotion 8 years later has alot to do with his anti-pirate campaign. And yes, I had noticed that his hair was brown when he was serving at a Leftenant and white (assumed powdered) by the time he was made Commodor. I will have to do some checking about to see the why's of that when the soliders (marines?) in British Red also have white/powdered hair. Hmm.. so many points to ponder .. where to be begin? Cap'n Emerald
  21. Ooo.. Sounds like it will be a good film to watch. She should make an interesting Guinevere, will be nice to see the fabled queen played with spunk rather than as retiring or a petulant child. Thanks for posting the link! Cap'n Emerald
  22. The epicenter is where the earthquake starts from or is centered. Hope all in Cali are ok ... my thoughts and prayers are with them. Cap'n Emerald Give me a twister any ole day.
  23. Butterick also has a few "Making History" patterns that would suffice for piratical garb. The one pattern I have is # 3072. I use a more "Halloweenish" Butterick pattern to make my sashes out of (# 3556). They are cheaper than the Folkwear & Period Patterns and with a bit of research, can be altered to give a historical look. Hope this helps ya out With Respects, Cap'n Emerald
  24. Aye Ryann, ye did just read that admission! :) Many thanks for your well wishes .. an' aye, twas a wonderful day. Cap'n Emerald
