  1. Right nice topic! All the above is what I'm shooting for (but getting there VERY slowly). The walking stick is one of several things I am hoping to get done. I've a few old pool sticks that I am looking to convert into period walking sticks. Though it's the top "knob" that I haven't gotten far with yet. Anyone know of where to obtain toppers the width of or can go onto the end of a pool stick? ~Lady B
  2. Will... I AM JEALOUS!!! This is one of many items that is on my list of "must haves"! ~Lady B
  3. Ahhh... yes... well, money would be the killer for me. I know it killed my attending Rev War reenactments. Not much else could kill my wanting to do Piracy unless there was nothing for me to do at all. But, pretty much money is the murderer of my fun. Just got back from pirating (which I do rarely now) and Lord God Almighty! OUCH! Too much! And I'm talking about gas alone! I camped and brought food, but the gas... lord! Mind ye, mates... NONE of my events - Rev War or Piracy - are nearby. Most events are on average 5-6 hours away! Those of ye who travel a long distance know my pain! I know it's hopeless but I do still keep praying for lower prices in gas. Lower prices means more traveling and events for me. ~Lady B
  4. TOMORROW (Friday, October 12th) is the BucCornEar Festival in Helmsburg, Indiana! It's promising to be an excellent event with a variety of shows, car show, games, Pirates vs Firefighters tug-of-war, and so much more!! Still in need of some pirates! Here's the Schedule for the Festival! http://www.scribd.com/doc/109187592/BucCornEar-Festival-Final-Schedule Hope to see ye there!!! ~Lady B
  5. A WEEK AND A HALF AWAY FROM THIS EVENT!!! The Firefighters are excited- heck, I'm told the whole town and area is excited! The Pirate Encampment, as I'm told, is the buzz of the town already! BUT... we are still in need of Pirates for this event!!! If you are interested, let me know or simply attend! Definitely need more pirates for the Tug of War! 2, maybe 3 Pirates is NOT going to be enough against a dozen or so fit Firefighters! :) Come on, Pirate Community! I know there are MANY pirates who attended Pirates of Paynetown. This event is NOT that far from Bloomington, Indiana where PoP was formerly held. ~Lady B
  6. A car and truck show has been added to this event! A lot is being done to make this a grand event! Please! pirates! Don't miss out on this event! Do yo'r best to attend this event! Again, there IS historical camping plus many activities planned. The more the merrier! ~Lady B
  7. OY!! ye need a better reason to attend? This is put on and for the Jackson Township FIRE DEPARTMENT!!! Tis a good cause! Let's not stick to the Pirate Fests and the sort! These brave men and women are reachin' out to us and inviting us to help make their event memorable! What say ye? Hmm? I know there are PLENTY of pirates around the upper Midwest to attend the event! What more could ye ask for? Really? We shall have a historical Encampment, allow to have fire pits to cook, they want demos and interaction, Plus.. the best fun of all... Pirates vs Fire Fighters tug-of-war!!! Come on now! Let's make this event for them memorable! All you need to do.. is show up! ~Lady B
  8. Bumping up this topic, mates! Desperately needin' come pirates and non-pirates for this event! There is an encampment - yes, where you can camp overnight at! Only restriction: no drugs or alcohol. I know, I know... Pirates without rum, what sort of fun is that. But... tis th' rules. Otherwise... they want a good sized Pirate Encampment, with working/live demos, cannons, and all sorts of fun! We can have firepits and cook our own food! This is nearby - if not next to - a fire station so, anything happens, we are safe nevertheless. I'm desperately trying to get there since m' vessel died this week. For more info on this event, here's the website: http://buccornear.webs.com/ PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE! HELP! The more Pirates, the merrier! I do NOT want to see another Karsyn Bell event (where they wanted pirates and no one showed up!). ~Lady B
  9. Aye, am planning to do canvas as well. And aye, keeping m' eyes wide open for them. Haven't had much luck... yet. Once in a while, I look on craigslist... funny... I found one that was way off in another state. I didn't know of anyone to go pick it up, that was the issue. Thanks for the hints, already been doing them. Reaching out to m' Brethren to keep their eyes wide open. Hmmm... what about tarred canvas for rugs. Aye? That most likely ye think? ~Lady B
  10. I be wanting some Persian rugs or rugs that have that persian look to them. I want the worn, the old, torn, filthy, etc sort of persian rugs... the ones that are just tossed into the dumpster instead of sold or restored. I saw on a home remodeling show an awesome persian area rug that was torn and worn that was just... tossed out! I nearly cried! So, if anyone sees a pathetic looking persian rug, let me know. If there is a cost to it, no really willing to pay more than $25 for it. After all... it'll be used for the encampments, on the ground... dust, dirt, mud, grass, etc. Thanks. ~Lady B
  11. Oooo... right nice! Tell Brig... I'm mighty jealous! Can't wait t' see more of her handiwork! Can never have a short supply of lace. Especially for we pirates who fancy sporting fine lace. I suppose... we shall be dubbing her th' Lacemaker from now on? Hmm? :) ~Lady B
  12. Holy crap! Is that a pocket? Like what we have with modern jeans? ~Lady B
  13. I still have some things up for grabs! Have a look see. Will do commissions, too. ~Lady B
  14. Bo... you are evil! I am jealous. :) Ye look beyond splendid, Bo! Bravo! Halloween, hmm? Lemme guess... Headless Horseman? :) Pegleg... ye look fantastic! Ye definitely are the spitting image of Long John Silver! Huzzah! :::: worship::: Ye make Pirate look very good. ~Lady B
  15. When ever life improves for this marooned Lady, I've a good many ideas m'self for events. Aye, still a great number of possibilities. I've a list of scenarios I've been working on since 2007. Most I have yet to put into practice. Would LOVE to. Aye, many of the trades have yet to be practiced fully at events other than just displays. I'm sure several events there have been people performing them. I know with the crew I'm trying to set up, I want to be quiet involved and realistic with cleaning of weapons, working on sails or woodworking as though repairing a ship, or have a deck and actually 'cleaning', inventory of goods (which I am slowly still working on a stockpile of items to look like goods taken from a prize), etc. Aye, a good number of things can be done. Truly do wish I could partake. I'm a wealth of ideas. Someday, mates. Shall venture to Put In Bay. ~Lady B
  16. Well said, Silas. Besides, a few surviving pieces have shown us that some have been altered to fit the fashion as it progressed. ~Lady B
  17. Sorry this is late posted. Would like to see if you found anything. Alas, a lot of the Chinese Silks I see today, rarely look like what was used in the 18th c. Some solids would work. ~Lady B
  18. Question, how much smaller is it? Another option could be... use a string to loop to the button... or lace the collar if you do not want to remove it and piece it. Piece it does sound like a proper way of it. I did use a string loop to button one shirt. And for another that was not able to close, just used a small cotton twill lace to close or slightly close the collar, If you are using a cravat, doesn't really have to be closed completely. Unless you are definitely going for upper class... well, then... all the upper class shirts I've seen were spot on with buttons. ~Lady B
  19. Here's another goodie... find belgium cotton fabric. Oddly, it mimics the fine, smooth, sheer silk. It's hard to find and expensive but worth it! it's so very lovely and perfect. I couldn't find a good silk that fit my standards, so the belgium cotton was my next best possibility. Besides, it does look just like the fabric of those cravats shown above. Another I have noticed is silks often varied, some had cotton interwoven into them. Guess... it would depend upon your persona. Just keep your eyes open. It's been interesting to see what stores have. I don't even try online because.. if I can't see it and feel it, forget it! ~Lady B
  20. A patient just sort of lying there? Hmmm... most scenarios that we did in the NWTA, the wounded being worked on were squirming all over the place, taking several people (at least) to literally hold the person down. Be that what you want, Mission? :) Aye, Michael. Though not Pirate events that weekend, lots of other events that some are not historically minded... mind you. You said there's a website, aye? Be there a link for it? I'll put it up on the Resurrection's website links. ~Lady B
  21. Early start is good. Generally, as we can tell, it's the postal and shipping services that seem to be the area of concern most. ~Lady B
  22. Aye, I think the Firefighters would enjoy a bit of Blackbeard's special effects. ~Lady B
  23. Aye. Ditto. And folks were starting to not believe me a couple years ago when mail was going screwy. Aye, I have had some bad experiences with all the shipping mediums. Hope th' gifts arrive at their destinations soon. ~Lady B
  24. Hmmm... many an event that weekend, too. Hmmm. Pity events cannot be spread out more. Thank ye though. Shall make a notation of it. ~Lady B
  25. LMAO!!! Will give a whole new meaning to the Occupy movement! Hmm... maybe they would actually get rid of a few nutcases that have fallen in with the Occupy Wall Street movement. Ahhh, but Mission... you do the scary ship's surgeon so well. Can you see Jack Sparrow and you? And we all thought he was frightened of the Cannibals. Nope... it's Mission he's moreso frightened of! We love ya Mission! You deserve to be a character in a movie! Jolly Roger. Hmmm. ::: Shrugs :::: I still think they should take on Black Syren's character and use Angelina Jolie like she said would be best to portray the Siren. ~Lady B
