Making a full kit in four months
LadyBarbossa replied to Tudor MercWench Smith's topic in Crafting Kit
Good heavens! Sounds like ye have quite a project there, TudorSmith. I wish ye the best of luck. I'd say avoid all man-made fabrics as much as possible for the clothing. Including linen-rayon blends. Otherwise ye will be sweating like a horse after a hard, long workout. Be aware that leathers can burn the skin in the midday heat and direct sun for long periods of time. I learned that the hard way at a different type of event many years ago in South Carolina during mid-August. Hope ye keep us updated. ππ΄ββ οΈ -
Aye! I got one. Although, I'm kicking myself terribly for not getting the 3 in 1 PotC game set with Liar's Dice, Chess, and Checkers. Tis a good fun game, isn't it?

A hearty welcome to ye, Picaroon. Glad ye made it to the Pub. Truly is a place for we Pirates. Aye, explore the Pub as often as ye can. Always something that pops up weekly if not daily. ππ΄ββ οΈ -

LadyBarbossa replied to Tudor MercWench Smith's topic in Scuttlebutt
Ahoy again, and welcome back! Aye! I remember ye! Such a delight to see another familiar pirate. Huzzah! Sounds like life really took ye on quite an adventure thus far. Have fun! -
Hehehehe, Right, Black Syren? The stuff of pure piratical fun! Alas, Stynky, tis true, I'm not able to make it to the event.

So awesome! Looks fabulous! Did you create a pattern for this? What type and weight of hide did you use for it?

So, I spoke with 18th Century Cleophas on Instagram ( and highly recommend that you follow him if you are on Instagram because he's an 18th c Fabric Seller Living Historian and researcher of 18th c fabrics, and he's based in Europe)... Anyways, he said "The fabrics were, after all, only narrowly woven and were wound on thin boards so that the woven fabric became small bales of fabric."

I shall have to ask a couple people who do fabric research. And those are amazing finds! It really is crazy amazing the stuff someone can find at Goodwill or some other second hand store.

Ooooh, I LOVE it! π

I'm surprised no one brought the Hurdy Gurdy or the Nyckelharpa. Has anyone spotted any documentation of other these two old instruments? My stretched guess is if there were fiddles aboard, most likely they could be Pochettes/Pocket Fiddles, too. Again, anyone find documentation?

I love those! I think they also make for great stolen or contraband fabrics for displays.
