  1. ;) LMAO ;) And just to keep the myth alive... Shiver me timbers, me Kobuck-0h
  2. On my end, we have the chest/trestle table with matching benches (sits four comfortably)... Plenty of cooking gear (except a coffee pot, which looks to be taken care of), we have our wedge tent for the wife and I, and assuming Sam is still coming, he will be staying in our tarp shelter (which is about 12 foot square). I talked to Shannon last night, but he didn't mention whether he or Trish were able to come. I'll try and call him or Trish back tonight and try to get a more solid read on that.
  3. William, Capt. J, you guys are awesome! The wife will likely bring her digital SLR as well, so I think we will be well covered... Not like you two haven't got that covered in spades already. Live video feed, that is just crazy fun there! I hope it works out!
  4. Today is the last day for many of the auction items! Here is the link again. Most of the items are still going for far less than what they are worth. Now is the time to get your bids in to get some awesome items for a great deal, donating to a great cause while you are at it! The last items will finish up by Thursday of this week.
  5. Despite my best efforts, I have not yet been able to procure a coffee pot yet... So your brother in laws offer would be very helpful! So far I am aiming to be there Friday night (June 4th). Not sure what time we'll be rolling in at yet, but we'll let everyone know closer to the time.
  6. Bump, since someone asked me about it.... And I am working on a new pair of slops for myself at the moment.
  7. Callenish, I've checked the local Giant Eagles, Krogers, and other local grocery chains.... And all without any luck. I would imagine there is a local "English Food" importers, but I haven't looked for that yet, or stumbled across it. I think they had a booth at the local Irish festival last year, because I recall being most impressed they had a lot of English confections I am fond of... Too bad I was so busy obsessing over sweets to think to look for HP Sauce. Or maybe the booth was set up from an out of town store?
  8. Damn Callenish, do you know where to find HP sauce in this country? I've been looking for it for years, and had no luck! I swear next time I visit Toronto, I am going to smuggle a case of the stuff back here!
  9. Another auction update.... HistoryFanatic added some auction items through the Santa Maria's MissionFish page on eBay. Most of the items were posted on the non MissionFish page as MissionFish, despite it's good intentions and ease of use add significant charges so less of the raised money gets to the Santa Maria Columbus Ohio (HistoryFanatic was unaware of this when he posted those). According to another source, the above mentioned ticket take (posted by Mark G) for the pirate weekend exceeded last May's by a decent margin. So this event is growing and having a wonderful and positive effect on the ship. A huge thanks to all who attended, and all the well wishers from a far, and a double thanks to those who donated items for the auctions! If it wasn't for everyone involved whether present or from far away, this event wouldn't and couldn't be the success it is! There is still 5 to 8 days left on all the auction items, please bid if you see something that interests you, and also please pass the links on to anyone and everyone you think may be interested, it is for a great cause, and a piece of history and historic landmark that is still in need of our help and support! Cheers!
  10. I think the tentative target is the end of June, but a firm target generally isn't set until we have enough participants. So if this is your way of asking in, please let us know!
  11. As someone who's never re-enacted, I'm curious: why is this? Given that pirates had to live and work all day under a hot Caribbean or Red Sea sun as often as not, why would they wear very hot clothes? Well, that question might be better suited to the "Captain's Twill" area, but it also applies here.... So my two cents worth. It depends on what you are doing. If you are going for a more pirate themed event or festival... Then dress for comfort and to be showy. But for more historical re-enactment, then it would be more advisable to wear your waistcoats/weskits and if the temperature warrants your sailor's coat. People throughout history have dressed inappropriately by modern standards for comfort. It is remarkable what societal pressures apply to cultures throughout the world at various points in history. Even today there are plenty of cultures around the world that mandate full coverage despite the local temperatures and heat. Make sense?
  12. All items are now up in the auction! Please have a look and bid on anything that appeals to you! Here's the link again! The first set of auction items end this coming Sunday, the other items expire a week from tomorrow! Good luck and happy bidding! Please also if you will pass this information onto other forums you are on or let your friends know if you think they would be interested in any of the items as well! Cheers!
  13. William, I am thrilled to hear that I will get to meet you again... And all within under a year! Can't wait to meet you Capt. J! Looking forward to seeing you all in a few weeks!
  14. I asked a few folks to bring fruit thinking each of them would bring a bundle or two each... Everyone I suggested fruit to brought enough for the whole lot of us for the whole weekend (and more!). Link to Trish's photos on Facebook Mission's photos on Picasa
  15. I'll post more later today or tomorrow... But to start, here are links for.... Rosabella's Photos from the event Count D'Booty's photos from the event
  16. Well, here is me raising my glass to all the May babies (and adults) out there! M.A. d'Dogge, all the best man! It was great getting to see you near your birthday again this year! Ivan Henry, always a pleasure to hang out with you and tip back more than a few with you! Young Alex Thatcher (a grand Thatcherling), it was my pleasure to have you on your day, and watch you with you cake cannonade! JollyJackTar, it's been too long! But I hope your natal day is a grand one indeed! Happy B-Day Lady B, some day we'll make our acquaintance! And to all those I can't remember! All the best to you on your special days!
  17. The items for the current round of the Dead Man's chest charity auction to support and maintain the reproduction of the Santa Maria in Columbus Ohio are now all up on eBay. Please have a look as there are some great items up for auction and more to come! Auction listing
  18. eBay auctions are now going up..... The first few items are up. I will be adding items throughout the day and perhaps the weekend. eBay Auction link
  19. Your on the right track... But it is easier than that (if you want to make it so). 10 folks sign up/volunteer (usually we are just barely able to get 10 people involved, so there isn't any picking). You put together ten cards that are roughly playing card size (2 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches). They don't have to be of the people involved. They can all be the same, or if you are ambitious, they can be ten different images. Use the theme as a guideline, and then do ten cards however you want (all the same, all different, or anything in between). Cards can be single or double sided at your whim. Some do double sided cards, some do single sided and just sign the back, others only do one side. You can ask for pics to work from, from the other participants, but you might not get them (although likely you will). After you design your cards, you send all ten to the organizer with a self addressed and postage paid envelope (Pew in this case, he'll give you his address iof you decide to get in on the deal). Media mail envelopes tend to work best (and only cost about $2 in postage) There is always more rum... If you gotta enough coin that is..... Let us know if you have more question!
  20. I mentioned last week that some street will be close Saturday morning because of the race (Race for the Cure)... Well the impact of those closures may be more than originally expected. Please read the below attached news report from the local news station regarding street closing... It seems if you are coming in Saturday morning, you may be forced to approach the ship from the West side in order to be able to get there. Parking may also be a serious concern. News article on street closings for May 15th and 16th
  21. Count me in! An you forgot the ubiquitous "Mom" tattoo with the heart! Cool theme by the way!
  22. I thought when we talked to Linda about the extended hours, we talked her into 11:00 AM until 6:00 PM? Great news about the Hard Tackers though! Glad to hear they are performing for us!
  23. I too didn't sign my cards, mine were the ones that were labeled "Lost in paradise" with the filmy transparency. I have a pretty busy June, but if the theme is soon to come and I like it (as if I wouldn't like it ) I would surely join in for round the fifth as well.
  24. I had a video on MySpace posted of Kate firing her canon, and it seems MySpace purges videos over a certain age, because it isn't there any more and I know I didn't delete it. While we usually don't fire anything from it, we have in the past done so (usually leather bits left over from when I do leather working with the leather hole punch)... The accuracy is terrible, but we did manage to hit the broad side of my old van from about a dozen paces once. It did make a fun cake topper (just powder, no projectile) for M.A. d'Dogge and RedJessi's B-Day cake last year. I think someone even ate the piece of cake with the black powder burn in the icing!
  25. Sorry to hear you won't be making it Tartan Jack. It's been too long, but I am sure we'll see each other some time soon. Silas, I really hope Connie can make it! 'Cause the otter just isn't a very good substitute for her. Shame Alex can't make it, he's a great lad and he will be sorely missed. Silkie, I do hope you can make it out some time lass, you're always a joy to have around, and the couple of time a year we see each other just isn;t enough (as is the case with too many good people here!). I also want to take a few moments to give a hearty shout out to all those who donated items or good wishes on the auction! Baltimore Knife and Sword, Old Sutler John, Shananigens In Leather, Taylor Rose Historic Outfitters and a number of private individuals donated some awesome stuff! I am truly humbled that even in these hard times people can still find it in themselves to be generous and help out on a worthy cause! I'll post the links to the auction items later in the week. I am going to run the auction over a ten day period, hopefully to start this Friday (May 14th) and to end on Sunday May 23rd. The smaller items and the items too troublesome to ship will be auctioned off to the participants at the event (likely Saturday night, too bad we don't have Cannibal Chrispy for that ).
