  1. Mark, does ut specifically have to be from the most recent Santa Maria event? Jessica went through her photos last night and could not find one... but I think there may be a photo(s) from previous ones... and are you looking for just cooking? Or cooking ON the ship? As we have been using park space for most of the cooking for the last few events.
  2. http://frontierfolk.net/phpBB/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=36257 Noticed the above item for sale... perfect for a Buccaneer impression. Great deal on a very unique musket.
  3. I hadn't looked at their web site... so I guess that means date confirmed... June 24th through 26th... the re- enactment portion will likely end on Sunday though. Unless there are a lot of volunteers willing to stay the extra day.
  4. Just got an email from the organizer, planning has commenced. More news to come... But unrelated to the organization of the re-enactment encampment there, the organizer has asked me to put it out there that more vendors are wanted to expand the pirate market... Artists, crafters, historically influenced sutlers, and more pop-culture pirate themed vendors all wanted. Contact me and I will put you in touch with the organizer for the vendors. Re-enactors, I will be the point man on this one again... M.A. d'Dogge, you have been requested by name for some ungodly reason... something to do with being the currently reigning champion. Date is currently UNCONFIRMED but likely to be the weekend of June 24th through 26th.
  5. Im kind of surprised... and hopefuly not jinxing anything, but so far it has been a lot of rain, and only a dusting of snow... my heart goes out to those who are snowed in.
  6. Out in central OH we're still in the ice and freezing rain stage.. the snow is supposed to be coming though. Hope I make ithome from the game thisevening before it gets too bad. So far the roads are slick, but the biggest danger is the drivers not used to ice (going too fast or too slow).
  7. I think the photo of me needs whiskers to complete the effect... otherwise I think it makes me look more like a mule.... insert joke about what that says about my personality here....
  8. Depending on what projects you want to start with, you might want saddle needles (they have rounded points so you prick your fingers less), and a good diamond profile awl (for punching your stitching holes), and a "groover" for making those even grooves to put your stitching holes in, and a rotary tool for marking even marks for your stitching. Your best bet is two decide on a beginning project and ask your local Tandy rep (or post here) for advice! But most importantly, please share your projects here, good, bad, and okay... Sharing projects is a great war to learn as people will ask how you did it, and more than likely offer alternative suggestions, or share how they made a similar project. Good luck!
  9. Hey Carl! Glad to hear you're going to try and come! It will be great to see you and Alan again! (I know we'd see you at De Chartres in June, but this means we get to see you more!) Definitely bring your hammocs and we will save some hanging room for you! As for knotting stuff, bring either or both! Honestly either would be awesome, so bring what is easiest to transport would be my best advice. I am getting really stoked over this event, and it is still over four months away! This is looking to be the best one yet (but I always say that... and am almost always right about it! )
  10. Your not stealing business at all! If you have em, sell em! I've been saying I will get that whole deal going in "a month or two" for at least a year now, I would trust someone who has them ready to sell over my "it'll get done eventually" any day.
  11. He does not sell them any more.. And has generously passed the patent (in a manner of speaking) over to me.... However... I have dragged my feet over the last year having a new batch of them made, despite more than a few inquiries about them. I guess I am going to have to stop dragging my feet about this and actually get them done. Although it may take me a few months to get the ball rolling on this.
  12. Allow me to assist with this... Give me a few moments, and I will remove all the posts pertaining to earings from this topic, and add them over to the other.
  13. Please do.... I'm tired of being the only one who is gud far nuttin! And the only Canadian to boot. Seriously mate, let me know what you need or if you have any questions. are we linked on Facebook? (Do you use Facebook?) If you do use Facebook contact me there so I can add you to the organizational group board so you can get a good idea of the variety of folks and ideas that surround the event.
  14. Did you ever get the buckle thing going? I keep getting e-mails asking for them

  15. You have a "prize winning" presentation on period bedroom attire, perhaps you could bless us with that again. But on a more serious note, you always do an awesome job, I know that whatever you do, it will be done well.
  16. There is an old VERY long very vibrant discussion on Tattoos in the GAoP at this link on this forum. It springs back to life from time to time.
  17. Moderator Hat on... Okay guys... This forum is for academic discussion of history. Friendly debate and posting of fact/counter-fact with a modicum of opinion based on available evidence (reasonable extrapolation). While this forum may be the place to discuss whether "hair beads" are historically accurate or not, this discussion is not being conducted in a manner that falls within the "guidelines". Keep it civil or take it up in private messages please. 775pirate4, I know you are new to this forum, so welcome. Please, please, please take some time to acquaint yourself with the conventions of the different sections. On the whole, civility is a rule. I am also one who strives very hard for authenticity, but this forum caters to both historic re-enactors AND those who prefer pirate themed, pop-culture inspired activities. Learn to play nice with both side of the hobby, or PM me and I can recommend a forum where ONLY pirate re-enactors discuss history. If you want to play on this forum learn to play nice. Also it has been pointed out several times that you are having trouble stating anything in a single post. Multiple posts to make a point clutter up the forum and waste screen space. Please also learn to acquaint yourself with the "Edit" button to add to existing post rather than posting three sequential posts. Now everyone, we return you all to your regularly scheduled discussion. Moderator hat off.
  18. You should come! We'd love to have you Chrispy! You too Beowulf! It would be good for me to not be the only token Canadian for once! However, in case you (this means anyone) can't make it, the auction will likely be done on eBay (or something similar) so those who can't make it have a chance to get to bid on the "Bagley Originals" as well.... although doing the auction online does take away the chance for really fun auctioneers to do their job. On an unrelated note, Beowulf, if you have a long weekend for St. Jean Baptiste day (do company's in Montreal give that as a holiday?) there is the Put-In-Bay festival that weekend which would only be a 10 hour drive.... We'd love to have you at both, but I thought if I suggest both options, it would increase your chance of making it to one or the other.
  19. More details to come, but you can find the "Spectators" Facebook page at this Link, the Spectator's Web Page at this link, and most importantly for those of you who wish to join us as re-enactors or pirate entertainers, the participants web page at this link. We are toying with the idea of a "Partipants" Facebook (group?) page, as just about everyone who comes uses Facebook, whereas not all particpants are Pyracy "pubbers" (shame on them!). I'll share the link when it is created (or whoever sets it up will). This Facebook group page will be for those seriously considering coming only, and an all business page, or at least mostly business anyways (if we do it). If we do this, it is not to be exclusionary or secretive, but to keep available information accessible to the majority of the participants, and not buried due to idle chat and banter (as is what happens on forums sometimes). As of this posting I have not updated the 2011 dates on the web pages yet (although I hope to get that done soon). Also, I am now officially fishing for donations for the May 2011 Santa Maria edition of the Dead Man's Chest auction. I have a couple of great ideas for items I will be donating, here's hoping others are feeling as generous as well!
  20. I tend to agree with just about everyone so far (except Cross, I disagree with him! )... I like to see them as each page is done. It does create the opportunity to get early feedback and get possible information that can help shape the later chapters. Although you may want limit your exposure to all feedback you get, otherwise it may just open up the circumstance of giving you more editors than readers.
  21. Ya know QJ, right now I love you and hate you.... Awesome link. Thanks for sharing!
  22. Kass has not been very active here is coming on a couple of years now... However, I had the opportunity to visit their new store location last week. I did ask about the shoes, as I knew the question would come up... But they are currently sold out, so I could not see them. They are in the process of putting together a new order which I think they hope to have in by March (don't quote me on that, best to call her to double check). If the shoes are as someone suggested, the same as the ones Ivan Henry got from the UK, they are good shoes from what I have seen and heard. Maybe someone(s) here are responsible for helping the shoes sell out during the X-mas season and can give a better first hand account of the shoes. Hope my limited knowledge has been somewhat helpful.
  23. Please count myself and wife in (michaelsbagley and Kate_Souris in case you have forgotten. )
