  1. I'd love to see how far it could lob a tennis ball!
  2. I discovered that unique property of the Tricorn when leaving my tent on a rainy day....... as I came out under my fly, the weight of the water collapsed the front of the fly, and a large amount of water drained directly into my hat...... the corners acted like rain gutters, deflecting the water out of the back of my hat.......pretty cool...but then, that's not gonna work for EVERY type of tricorn, mine was a colonial style, and the cockades sat lower in the back.....
  3. This is a monster of a pipe! Davy Jones Pipe Replica....... alas, it doesn't actually draw smoke...........
  4. Drafting requires a mathematical mind, careful hand, precise measurements, and immense patience.......all skills which I lack...... which is why I got a degree in computer graphics instead.... though, I always thought CAD was neat, drafting by hand is a skilled art in which I have the utmost respect..... nice stuff......and great work!
  5. here's one for ya: Mackenzie's character has a wooden eye..... David Bowie has two differently colored eyes (he's got no pigment in his right eye, because as a child he was stabbed in the eye with a compass)
  6. like i said, I cut it with rolling tobacco......
  7. I got a first edition copy of Howard Pyle's book of Pyrates (In used, but fantastic condition) from an antique store in Pennsylvania......this thing is SO good, it still has the advertisement from Harpers, to order other books in it! I got a heck of a deal, because the seller mistakenly thought it was a 1926 copy.... as for recommendations: I suggest Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson, as well as the sequel....Peter and the Shadow Thieves...... not to mention Peter Pan by JM Barrie, and Peter Pan in Scarlet by Geraldine McCaughrean yeah, you see "Peter Pan" and think "Kids Book" but I assure you, there's still plenty there for adult readers.........
  8. I used to smoke a local blend of cherry, really mellow, with a great taste......I'd mix it with a bit of Bugler Rolling tobacco.....really good.... man, I used to love to smoke........but I'm quite glad I quit....... also, don't make a habit of smoking JUST from a clay pipe.......because it's as bad as smoking unfiltered.........you should have a modern pipe (if you smoke a pipe regularly) as well as a period one, for events.... don't make a habit of using the period pipe all the time.......your lungs will thank you!
  9. oh yeah!, expect my order in the next couple months.......these are my winter projects!
  10. before I quit smoking, I used an old churchwarden type pipe that had been dropped and broken so many times the stem was shorter than most modern pipes..... I don't know what happened to it after I gave up the tobacco, tho........
  11. oh, I so agree!, I only buy the machined ones in a pinch......like I said, my dad knaps flint all the time...... I'm fortunate enough to live in Ohio, and once a year make a pilgramige to Flint Ridge (An ancient Native American Quarry) to mine rock...... as for Pyrodex, I only use it with my Kentucky rifle.....which is percussion........I don't yet own a GAOP Accurate gun.....but thanks for the heads-up! the flintlock I use isn't even mine........it's a Rev War rifle, actually......WAY out of period......
  12. I get mine from my dad, or, in a pinch, Cabela's.......fortunately, I have the benefit of having one within driving distance of my home..... though, they're TOO perfect.......they have to be machine cut somehow, a knapped flint doesn't have such perfect edges........ good thing my dad's a flintknapper!
  13. if we had wimmen like that aboard, it might keep me crew from resorting to sodomy...... fer about fifteen minutes
  14. that thing needs a LOT of work, and for $7800 I'd expect it to be right in every way..... the beads aren't right, the hat's too big, the coins are all wrong, the face doesn't look a thing like Depp, the tattoo looks like a seven year old did it, the compass looks like a toy, the boots are too small, and it doesn't even come with the frock coat........ from a guy who worked for Disney, I'd expect better quality than this...... Toby Markham (www.sithcamaro.com) has a 100% authentic outfit (everything was measured from screen-used items, or screen-cast), and recently sold an identical one for about 3 grand......... and he doesn't even WORK for Disney (I don't think)....and managed to get it right.......
  15. heh, he loves the pic, so he gets a chuckle too! there's a link, above to the ebay seller I bought it from......only $15.08 total...... and it arrived in a week.......great item........ and yes, he's wearing boxers behind the bandana, I swear it!
  16. Here's a pic of my brother holding my Jack Sparrow Bandana, just to show you the sheer SIZE of it....
  17. the bead strands ain't accurate....... from an imagineer, I would expect better.......
  18. a forum member posted the original map in another thread, and another member modified it..... I have further modified it, to better reflect my Ren-Faire experiences:
  19. I just got my Jack Sparrow bandana today, from ebay, and it's everything the seller said it would be...... fantastic print, and pattern, and it's HUGE..........100cm x 100cm very nice.........
  20. I used a needle file to slim down the wind edge of the hole, and it sounds sharp and shrill...... I just need practice in sounding it, and learning to vary the pitch.....
  21. well, I do want a pair of shoes, and will eventually have them, I just can't afford 'em right now...... story of my life.....
  22. Fantastic work, and great detail!
  23. nope......mine was bought at an antique store..... no instructions at all......
  24. heh.....true that! great shirt, Don Maitz art always impresses! Hook got his revenge against the croc, though........
  25. http://www.middlesexvillagetrading.com/NEW...EWmuskets.shtml There's plenty of good, period arms there..... they're made in India, but they often feature original (period) maker's marks, and stamps...... some complain about lock speed, but that's adjustable......if you know what you're doing......
