As the two watched, splashin an fins became apparent wit th' stain in th water. Th' Rakehell had come about closer an she saw Roberts lope t' th' rail, pistol drawn aimin at the water but he did na fire. Nate exclaimed "They's set upon by them sharks! " he ran t' bring up th' anchor an Cat followed t' assist in gettin the ship they's on closer t' th fray. She wondered aloud if firin a deck gun into th' water near by might scare 'em off. As they hurried she wondered wot she would say when they caught up wit Roberts, 'r wot th big oaf'd have t' say hisself.

Actually I was off that day John, but I got several calls as it unfolded. My thoughts were that several factors, foremost the Captain and crew played a large part. 1) It was still light out which was a tremendous boon especially had the aircraft partially submerged. 2) The snow had stopped just a short time earlier Both meant less wind, greater visibility and a smoother surface to the Hudson. 3) It wasn't rush hour yet, allowing rescue vehicles easy access close to the river and ferries empty enough yet to pick up the passengers. 4) As this was a departure, it was fully laden with fuel, which is usually a sight worse than a crash on arrival because of the imminent fire. As they landed in water and the spark in the engines had already extinguished, Lack of fire was a big part in sparing lives and buying time for escape in an orderly fashion. 5) Fully laden makes for a harder landing due to the weight of fuel which is normally spent before landing. Many times a plane which makes an emergency landing dumps fuel because it will collapse the gear or damage the aircraft to land at a fully fueled weight. However some models of aircraft have no ability built in to dump. Which calls for more rescue equipment. As dangerous as the water is, it saved them. If a plane manages to land on pavement or ground even with the nose or one main body gear broken or retracted which has happened, the risk is that a wing tip will dip and catch the ground. Result is pulling the aircraft sideways breaking the tank skin or a wing portion breaking off and exposing the fuel, which is in wing tanks to the sparks of the metal and the hot engines. The devastating crash on the ground of a Singapore 747 became an inferno on impact as they rolled for takeoff on a closed runway and struck construction barriers. That's 57 thousand gallons of Jet A as its a long trip to NY. The Captain and crew and ya know what? the passenges as well deserve the praise they are recieving. The passengers were incredibly calm and followed directions. They helped each other and the crew and did not clammor over each other. The human factor here was huge. Many times its the abject panic and stampede mentality that cause many fatalities in situations. I have listened to crash tapes.. those that ended in ultimate disaster and those that didn't and the Captains amaze me. They are calm and deliberate until the last moment sometimes of their lives. They spend every second trying to escape disaster and more often than many know, they do. So raise a glass to the Cap'n n' crew..but also to the passengers and the good samaritans and the rescue workers. Also as dumb as many people think the safety briefing is in our too comfortable world, do count seats, do be aware of your surroundings, do keep that seatbelt on, dont hold your child in your lap, and understand what the crew and your fellow passengers may need God forbid anything should ever happen. Many aircraft are built differently many door handles operate differently. There is no safer seat on a plane and in water do NOT open the aft door unless instructed as someone tried to do which would have flooded the aircraft. There are a great many more emergency landings than the news ever gets a hold of, peole just don't know it. The captains Co Captains and crew keep us quite safe and I have great respect for them.

Red Cat set th' bottle aside, happy fer th' moment wit th' good hot stew. She nodded t' Nate's suggestion, but then put a hand t' his shoulder. He looked round at her as she retrieved her spyglass an set th' bowl down as well. "Belay..." she said slowly, walkin towards th' gunnle she spied long in th Relentless direction an Nate followed suit . Soon a sort o' commotion made itself apparent. "Be they fightin amongst 'emselves fer wotever thev come upon?" Weren't Jacky Tar's style...but then she thought of the recent mutiny and hoped it wasn't again to repeat itself. She stared harder and scanned th' men along th rail o' th' relentless who were pointing and shouting. "Summin's amiss " the hairs stood up on th back o' her neck.

Jenny reaches into a few of the paper bags with brightly colored tissue and pulls out teddy bears for those who never had one..and hands a few other bags out which contain all sorts of fun stuff. "Ok close your eyes and reach in and then say what you got" Closes her own eyes and reaches into a pink bag .."ooh! the latest eyeliners from Urban decay and a new tropical shimmer chapstick!" Grabs a cheez puff from the imported waiter and looks around to see what the others got.

Red Cat watched Nate's backside head topside, an wit a grin sniffed th' bowl..then th pot.. an took a taste, dippin her spoon directly in th' kettle jes because. She sighed, it was good. Best they'd had since th' uncertain banquet wit' th' Spanish. Cat laughed t' herself as she clibmed th' hatch one handed, bergoo in th' other. The image o' her an Ransom in those rediculous fancy dresses had come t' mind. Cat popped her head up cautiously an spied the immediate surroundins. Seein no threat she ascended an headed in Nate's direction. Pausin t' take another spoon full while it were still good n' hot she said "wot ye make o' this aye? ye'd think invitations were sent!"

Ward Room of The Lucy at Anchor Cul De Sac Royal The heeling of the ship had only stirred Miss Ashcombe as she slept fitfully in the chair within her small canvas portion of the ward room. The calls from above, punctuated with the splash of the Lucy's anchor and subsequent jar of the ship against something solid brought Jenny fully awake. A tingle of anxiety crept among her nerves as she exited the canvas to peer into the dim light through the Lucy's stern windows. Despite the waning glow of a day nearly past, the shoreline and it's distant shapes was unmistakable. Jenny breathed out slowly and pressed her face closer. The view from this side of the Cul De Sac Royal had become a memory quickly burned into her conciousness as she had slipped the possible bonds of he former life and now all too soon had been returned. She glanced over her shoulder at the ward room door but none came and no voice outside indicated anyone's approach. Jenny sat on the stern bench and rubbed the sleep from her eyes. How long had she slept? and where was Mr. Pew? Would they wait here at anchor the night or would some messenger or visitor be shortly entering with the Ship's Master? Jenny had no choice but to sit quietly and ponder what the next few minutes or hours would bring. She kept her back to the cove shrouded in twillight and instead fixed her gaze upon the table's lamp and turned her thoughts inward.
