    I did, lass... the palms and sun have always called me... so when the opportunity arose, I seized it.

    Born and raised in the Seattle area, but I don't miss it too much. Do miss the mountains though. It was easy to know West from East (if you knew yer Olympics from Cascades). Here, I can't tell which way is which and I-4 which is an east-west route runs north through much of the Orlando area. Go figure. Luckily, few others around here know their north from souths either - better at the east and west thing since the sun is accommodating enough to rise and set that way. And we do get to see it a lot more than I ever did in the Northwest.

    I have plenty of former crewe members up your way who may be interested in pirooting with you now and then. The BOOM folks are great...

    Ahoy, Diego...

    I be older than most, younger than some. Been pirating for 22 years... mostly in the Northwest and now in Florida. Know a lot of pirate history, that in the Northwest and all the contacts we've had since. Was a member of the Seafair gang for 8 years during part of the golden age of that organization, founded the Northwest Pirates of the Coast in the only mutiny ever to have been succesfully carried out against the Seafair gang, went on from there to found the group I currently have, The Pyrates of the Coast, a group out of Central Florida. Have known Trapper for oh so long and have regarded her highly, still love Seattle, but love Florida far better because of weather, people and water. The Pyrates have allowed me to be their captain for the last 10 years, and I have been grateful for their support. And so the story continues, eh?

    And what could the Seafair Pirates possibly be so busy doing? They're a shadow of what they used to be and their schedule is half as full. I hear Weaver Dial rolling over in his grave. Didn't they used to be a community service group? Sigh!

    Good luck on your efforts, lass! She's a fine ship and deserves better than what Seattle has in store for her.

    We've set a course for it in 2006. Many of our crew will be on its way to the Bahamas to re-enact the GAP there and in Jamaica.

    Thanks to our fellow mates up in Fernandina Beach, FL. The pirates are up there are absolutely terrific, the landing was loud and obnoxious (as all good landings should be with cannon fire) and everyone made our crewe feel welcomed and at home.

    If you haven't put Fernandina Beach's Shrimp Festival on your calendar, you should. They love pirates up there...

    Pyrate Raid on Gaspar's Grotto Tonight

    The Pyrates of the Coast will be out in force tonight to raid one of our favorite pirate haunts, Gaspar's Grotto in Ybor City, just ourside Tampa proper. All pirates in the region are invited to meet up with us for a night of cavorting, pillaging and plundering. Wear your best pirate/wench clothes, lads and lasses and see you there about 8!

    Almost forgot...

    Built me first treasure chest from scratch - in the living room no less (sawdust not good where electronical things reside) and it came out amazingly well. Didn't even have a square to work with but it squared well... Not bad for a captain who's filling in for ship's carpenter.

    The finished piece is two feet by 1.5 feet by about two feet tall - the top is rounded and it was stained in a deep merlot, giving it a reddish tone. Then I added some leather straps to it on each side of the top. Should have photos soon.

    The Pyrates just debuted their pirate dinner theatre play for Fortune 500 execs. Complete with three life size sets, a 40' ship and a cast of 13. Glad it's over now - we did all the set construction and assembly ourselves...

    Join The Pyrates of the Coast for a Party

    The entire crewe of The Pyrates is in town for a corporate gig we're doing April 14 (an original pirate play, no less, with three acts and huge sets - the pirate ship set along is 35' x 20'. We'll be celebrating the debut of the play the next day at the infamous Emerald Hen in Sanford. Come on come all and drink, sing and cavort the night away. Wear a costume if you dare - you won't be alone...

    Use Mapquest to find your way to this wonderful Irish pub. Or just follow yer nose to the fine brews they serve there.

    Its required for our crewe to travel with hats on... then they are stowed above in the overheads. Otherwise, it counts as a carry on or a checked item if it's boxed. No need giving up valuable baggage space to a hat when you can wear it without penalty.

    Wool's a good choice if you're up north, but don't try it down Florida way in summer. You'll breathe, but die. It's not the heat but the humidity and wool will just get soggy and heavy down in the south. Not fun for piratin' all day long outside.

    Visit the upholstery section. You'll find better fabrics of a more substantial weight. Too often cotton or lighter fabrics look droopy, particularly in areas like the cuffs of a good coat.

    All of our crewe's hats are off to you for doing such a grand deed. We only wish we were in your waters to enjoy his very special evening. Make a Wish has always been near and dear to our own hearts. The Pyrates of the Coast wish you all well and congratulations on making a wish come true in such a special way!!! Huzzah!

    Everyone in our crewe ends up with a nickname at some point. Some are earned via personal traits, others from exploits while on a voyage.

    Some of the fair maidens in my previous life gave the the Hurricane moniker, based on a Evangeline song out some years ago.

    Hurricane comes from my historical habit of leaving relationships in an extremely messy fashion. As I say, Cat 5, Emotional Wreckage and Human Debris...

    I've had it for some 12 years now, though I'm probably down to a Cat 1 in the last year. The tempest has settled down, at least in terms of relationships, eh Diosa?

    It just wouldn't be the same if'n he did.

    By the way, Captain's grades were crap until high school when he figured out the game and pulled honors. There's hope for the lad. Just look at Animal... On second thought... :)
