  1. Dang it...now its done....

Many of you know now that i have been goin under the monicur of a Welsh man named M.A.d'Dogg for awhile now....kinda of a tongue and cheeck version of a nickname i got over 20 years ago at my first re-enactment ( a drooling problem i had with a new beard...ahem)

    anyways....

been working on a Genealogy Project for some many a year now.....and just last night ran into an ancestors name,

seems i am a descendant of one Madog Ap Ieuan of Wales (1340-1396)

who knew this was just an olde family name!??!

HAHA!!!....sorry just thought it was interesting...you may now go back to whatever you were doing

Really?! Interesting Maddogge. Just think...your ancentors are from the land of camelot and king arthur, Richard Burton and Rugby! You should practice your singing, Maddogge...you have a lot to measure up to!

  2. Hello Everyone,

To those of you who have heard of the wonderful Convention hosted in Chicago, IL every February....

Dear History Buffs, Historians, Educators and Reenactors, Those of us who are involved, have experienced this event, and are excited about history are humbly asking for your help in educating people about the Reenactor Fest name change. If you haven't heard, the convention has picked up three big sponsors: Osprey Publishing, Casemate Publishing and W. Britain miniatures. They are bringing exciting new elements to the show: more authors, more books, collectible toy soldiers, and miniature gaming. To reflect these additional offerings it was decided to make the name of the show more general, so as to not scare away people in the history hobby who aren't reenactors.

That's when the creator and founder, Mike E. Bollow's came up with Military History Fest - Reenacting and Trade Faire.

Despite shouting himself hoarse that the show isn't changing; in name only, some people in the hobby are still confused and now think the show is going to exclude civilian impressions. THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!! Take a few seconds to glance at the convention web-site and you'll clearly see that is 100% false.

The seminars and workshops that are listed thus far are about women's topics, civilian are living history! We have expanded the dance classes this year, and are offering more for kids than ever! We cannot forget that kids are the future of this hobby!

Therefore, some folks need a little extra help in learning the truth, so if you know any of these folks who are scratching their heads, please help by enlightening them!

We look forward to seeing everybody on Feb 18-20, 2011! Don't forget to get your DISCOUNTED ADVANCED TICKETS on-line and book your room at www.reenactorfest.com

    Happy Holidays! <A href="http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.reenactorfest.com%252F&h=6414a&ref=nf" target=_blank>http://www.reenactorfest.com/

  3. Am I bad for giggling at this? Once again, truth is cheesier than fiction! ;)

Sadly...I was told another story about this event...but of course, there is nothing to back it up except family tales and such...like the time my Grandmother told me that our ancestors owned the deed to Rhode Island - yet the document was destroyed when used to make an apple pie. This is the stuff you always take with a grain of salt... (Damn, I'd be living on Mansion Row, on the cliffs, right now).

  4. Obtained from my father, here is an account of disorderly conduct in a tavern. The man, John Meckene, is an ancestory of mine, caught up in the 'brawl' in Salem, MA in 1677.

1677: RECORDS AND FILES OF THE QUARTERLY COURTS OF ESSEX COUNTY, MASSACHUSETTS.

From the files of the SALEM Commissioners' court, Dec 5 1677, at Salem:

"Hana, wife of John Mason, was fined or to be whipped for drunkenness, and abusing by words and offering to strike Hen. West, a tithingman. Richard West deposed that he heard an outcry at Mason's house, " the Rogue will Kill me," and going in found it was John Meckene who was much in drink.

Peeter Joy was there and Goody Mason, all drunk, and Joy, after the uproar, owned that he struck Mekene twice. Henry West testified that Mr. Samuell Gardner came along looking for his man and they went in together, whereupon Goody Mason tried to strike him with an andiron, call- ing " thou West, thou Harry, thou Deuill," several times.

Someone took the andiron away from her and then she took up a chair. She was very much in drink, not being able to stand upon her legs, but fell down. Mackene and one Humphry Wilhams were also observed to be much in drink. Urged by Mr. Gardner to do his duty as tithingman, deponent requested assistance of Joy, as he appeared to be the soberest, but he refused.

Sworn in court. Constable Samuell Beadle, Jon. Cook and Walter Skiner deposed that they saw John Makene drunk that day. Goody Mason's bill of cost. John Bly mentioned. Peeter Joy, for refusing to assist Hen. West, tythingman, for drinking, and striking Mackene, was fined, which Mr. Hasket was to pay."

  5. A little bird informed me that there are 'dealings in the works' to push it to the East Coast...perhaps next year...but that plan is still being tabled as of the moment. A meeting has taken place, but no word yet on the over-all outcome of 'said' meeting. I do hope to have good news for you East Coasters soon.

  7. One could say the same in regards to yer career as a courtesan, Mistress McKinney. Ahem....

Let's not forget my talents as an Actress, Captain Sterling! Though, I am sure that your dear Cousin Robbie enjoyed doing it for Poppa!

And Yes Silkie..your hand at the arts are wonderous! Painting upon a ship like that is a wonderful honor, indeed!

  8. Oh...I see you have a lovely portrait of your dear cousin, Robbie...Nice shot of 'im pickin' his nose, Sterling? Oh, he could do so much with his life if he had social graces!

  9. Then there was young mr. merryweather being mistaken for john king in chicago. that picture is around somewhere- then we were able to pull it off again in Norfolk.

Yes, I have the shot on my Living History page...as I am sure Sterling has a copy of the boy also.

  10. Hmm...it doesn't look anything like the 'dummy' in the captain's quarters for display, does it? I think the missed the mark on the display with the polyester coat and the poet's shirt...with leather ties, don't you?

  11. Aye, we have all come a long way. Now if we could just get pirates to stop wearing black and red and teach them that there are other colors out there we would be doing great!

    Here...here 1stMate Matt....I must agree.

  12. Leigh, please tell me the BIG pan that Mad dogge is cooking bacon in wasn't the one that wandered off!

    That would be the one.

Whoa...that ain't cool! Did anyone first check with the Blackbeard crew? I know in year's past there's been a bit of 'one-upping' as far as flags, chairs and the like...but we've always managed to get these items back or have had some contact after the fact....knowing that the items were safe and sound.
