  1. Oh...and, Dale Lakes......Leslie Noble...Pat Buckley....and, my most favorite of all......Ellen Dygert (Winifred Wheeler) !! Oh..oh...and, the most handsome of all Sheriff's ever....Brian Belge!!

I admit to a prick of a tear when I first saw it........

Damn it all Mimi! All of them...I've played with 'em all! God Bless them. Dale was kind on the eyes...he made me very nervous with that letcherous smile of his. I saw him out in OH one year doing a Ren Faire there...he was shocked to see me and me twin.

Damn (again). I wish I knew how to down load photos onto this contraption. I've had no luck with my avatar either. Anyone out there who can help a computer challenged chick such as meself?

Yes, I hear that Doug and Mike (Don Juan and Migaule sp?) have purchased some property up there and making something of a retirement egg for themselves. I hear they have just finished their maze. I do know that they've done this at other Faires too!

By the way, Mimi...do you remember a clothing booth called "The Celtic Woman?" It was across the way from Mary and Marty - star throw.

Oh..and sadly...we lost Bosh (our good Queen Bess about three or four years ago- She took Marilyn's position when her and her hubby decided to 'work for the Rat' down in FL.

  2. I have decided that all womens bloomers for faire are to be made with the same easy access fly mens boxer shorts have!

    Damn fine idea there mate!

Why didn't I think of that?

    Right perfect it is!

Ah now Richards, that is where period correct be better... there arn't no bloomers, or knickers ... what could be more easy access than just lifting a skirt?

Quite right you are about the 'underpinnings' Captain Sterling. Yet, working up at Sterling Ren Faire (we're talking Oswego, NY not Tuxedo, NY people)...there would be 'bloomer inspections' every Saturday and Sunday morning at the Turkey Leg booth and at the Dark Horse and White Horse Pub.

Shame really that it had to come down to this. All the girls were trying to get coin by show a bit more than they should...and of course, the Health Department isn't very understanding to 'period correctness' of the Faire either.

  3. Now.....how shall we recognize each other.........?

We needs must have The Secret Sign..........

Perhaps the "Thumbing of One's Nose?"

Twenty three years!...You must have been about whilest I was there myself...I do remember a few faces in my day...names perhaps you know too? Eric Heath (Ax Thrower & Booth Owner), Patrick Johnson (Crusty Karbunkel, Cheese of Albany), and my fav...Peter Soiree...

  4. Those eyes again glanced about searching for a poster board of any sort... also she was awaiting the Harbormaster or some lacky. And all the while keeping her eyes open for the militia that would eventually be roaming about. Not that she feared them, she always enjoyed watching them, keeping them in her sights... fascinated by them... or so it appeared. With her.. one never knew. One would call her... mysterious... or even crazy.

Voice from above deck drew Lilly topside. As she made her way to the side of the ship she could see the docks and the bustle of people in the harbor. There was an abundance of business occuring this day. She could see Lady Barbossa conduct business with another man. Who, by the way he was dressed was a man of some position. Lilly looks about the docks and is ready to depart from the ship with her meager belongings in tow. Once again she skimms the docks. Slaves moves wares and produce from one side of the docks to another. Her eyes soon fall upon two men towards the point. It is then her breath escapes her just then.

"Ney, it cannot be?!" She whispers to herself. She leans closer off the side to take a closer look. Everything about him was correct. His height, his statcher..except for the dark hair...it could be him. She quickly made her way down the gangway towards the two men. "Dear God...if it is him..." She muttered to herself as she dodged her way through the crowded port street. As she drew near towards the two men, she quickly focused on the man she thought she knew. As he turned toward her, she quickly dashed behind a cart. Her heart stopped for a moment. Peering around the edge she examined him once more.

Yes, it was her beloved Captain Sterling. 'Twas the same man whom she denyed not once, but twice for her hand in marriage. She peered closer into his face only to see the horrid scar and the dead left eye. An injury that he recieved so many years ago trying to save his ship and the rest of his crew from pyrates. Yet, while looking at him she knew that he was not well. He stood pale and sweating. His color drained from his cheeks and the looks of feaver graced his brow.

She quickly dashed behind the cart again. "He must not find me here." She whispered to herself. It is then she slowly turns and walks back to the main harbor street. She needed time to think and to find lodgings.

  5. Anyone else looking to visit the faire for opening weekend?

    Opening is July 1-2 weekend.

    Ahoy William!

The Sterling Ren Faire and Summer Market Place holds a place very near and dear to me heart. I performed there back in the mid-80s and early 90s (support troupe) and even was a co-owner of a clothier shoppe (up upon the hill next to the flyer dragon and the ax and knife throw - if there are still there).

The Faire still brings back wonderful memories and I do miss those in the "Bless the Mark' crew. I wonder if Gary and Sue Izzo still direct/produce there?

Well, enough of my rantings...I am sure that the Pyrate Weekend will be wonderful...sadly...now I live near Bristol Ren Faire...alass...not the same.

  6. Turning to see the anchor hauled up and a couple sails being released to catch the wind, the 2 men at the helm to steer the ship... and the Resurrection was off again, taking it slow around the harbor to it's assigned dock.

Nestled between barrel and bunk, Mistress Lilly feels the ship toss again as she pens another entry into her diary.

    14th of May

In the Year of Our Lord...168*

    Port Royal, Jamica

It has come to this; my life's journey has brought me half way around the world and yet, I cannot fathom the path in which it has brought me here.

I am what I am...An Actress who makes my living on the great stages of London. But I did not begin there. Born a country lass, I gave my heart away once. I swear I will never do so again. With my heart I also gave my body and now, in order to keep my place as a great actress, I must give my body away on a continual basis.

Originally, I made my way to London, after the boy I loved used me and tossed me aside for another. Heartbroken and naive to the ways of the citie, I allowed myself to be taken in by a Mother Bawd. Kind she seemed at first, a bible open in her front hall, and promising words to ensnare any foolish girl. It was not long before I was a mare in her house. Thanks be, that I was never frenchified and finally summonsed up enough sense to flee from her and try to find a place in service.

I was taken in by the Empress and put to work in one of her mantua shops as a seampstress. But sewing is not a talent that I well posses. My talents lay between the bed linens and upon the boards. So back to the whore's trade the Empress put me. But a kind and thoughtful mistress she is and soon she introduced me to my patron, Lord Darnley. A man of great rank and questionable tastes, all too similar to the late Earl of Rochester. Under his care I was soon the toast of London, my Desdamona the greatest to behold... and yet, in the summer months, when the theaters close, my patron, along with the rest of the court escape the heat & stink of the citie and run to take refuge in the country. Where I must never follow.

I grow weary of turning back every summer to the passions of the lower sort instead of the class which keep me well, so I have taken the Empress' counsel to bring some culture to the great Island of Jamaica. Or am I running from a man who presses a marriage proposal upon me not once, but twice and yet cannot keep me as I deserve? I sicken of men, and yet I need them to survive. Perhaps Jamaica will be a fresh start and yet, as I board this strange ship with a woman as captain, I am uncomfortable.... tis not right, a female, for yea, I shall not call her a lady, to promenade her way about in men's clothing. Can she be trusted?

  7. ::leans over to Lilly::: Acquaint yerself with more pirates, ye just may afford him.. one way or another!

;) Lilly hands Lady B. another tankard of her favorite lybation.

"Oi, I know of which you speak is true, but pyrates are a breed of men that I could never truly fancy.

The Emperess Kass has managed to take me under her arm and give me several 'patrons' to supplement my income whilist during the slow season of summer. I do quite well at her Coffee House in Covenant Gardens.

Lilly raises her glass to Captain Sterling as she smiles...a the while speaking through her teeth. "And his black coat is dripping with the fynist silver trim from Spain...a gift from his ex-wife, I assume...

  8. Lilly leans over to Lady B. "He is more then generous with his coin and his courteousy. I must say that he is a fair man in both business and in love. Yet, I fear he has more of a head for business than the latter."
  9. My ball gown thanks to Reconstructing History patterns. These pictures were taken with Captain Sterling, the first at the Blackbeard Festival Ball the second at Michie Tavern in Charlottesville, Va. Whenever the Captain is in town we make it a point to get together...

  10. I rather listen to the wind right now...and the sound of the racoons taking cover!

The sound of racoons taking cover? What, pray, does that sound like?

    Hector

Well, from what I can hear (and they are now bedding down under my porch for safety) they are just making 'barking' noises as if to make sure the others (heaven forbid) can find them. The storm seems to be turning into a hard rain and with that, I hope they don't stay long...such chatty creatures with no manners!

  11. As a wearer of such a fine gown, Kass out did herself as far as fit and comfort. I am not a stranger to wearing corsets...I've been up and down a tyme line or two and when I first saw the stays pattern upon her website, I was, to say the least, a bit scared. The very appearance of such a contraption look sooo uncomfortable...yet, looks can be deceptive. Kass...I know my dress lacked the proper busk, but even with it, I don't think I will ever think twice about wearing ANY of your custom design patterns. I was quite happy running about on Friday night (Captain chasing his lover about the ballroom) and not feeling a bit exhausted in it. La! Such a wonderful cut and fit!
