  1. Lilly's eyes widened a bit when the flask came into view. "Well, it is a wedding, isn't it?" She said smiling back at the good doctor. Tess looked over at the both of them and rolled her eyes in disgust. "Middling sort!" She snifted as she continued to muster her attentions to the Reverend. She quickly tried to gather his attention by waving her lace hanky.
  2. Lilly could feel herself turn to a shade of dark crimson, as her face grew hot. “Please Tess, a word, if I may.” Whispered Lilly as she took her elbow and drew her near. “I am as upset about this match as you, but I feel that we must be respectful of the Bride and Groom.” Tess suddenly stood up and leaned forward on her tiptoes in order to see the Captain standing at the alter without any sign of the bride. “You see!” Tess muttered again in a low tone of disgust. “The bride child has forsaken him! She is no where to be found!” Again, Lilly hanged her head in disgrace and buried her face in her gloved hands. “I wish I were dead!” Lilly muttered as Tess continued her ranting about the missing bride.
  3. The carriage finally stopped at the church and the driver assisted both Tess St. Claire and Mistress Lilly McKinney out of the carriage. Lilly and Tess walked their way into the church. Lilly was surprised at the mindset of the extravagance of marrying in public! She knew that those invited would be friends and relations, crewe and staff. Everyone would be in new clothes, dressed in their finery to watch the happy couple be brought together under God in holy wedlock. Tess and Lilly quickly took their seat in a back pew. From the side of the church, one of the crewmen made eye contact with Lilly and inched his chin to another crew member down the hall. “We’ve been noticed.” Lilly said leaning softly into Tess’ space.

  5. As the carriage sped away from the docks, Lilly again thought about the Captain and why he would marry this woman so quickly. He was known to take to fancy quite quickly. Lilly thought to herself as the carriage quickly made its’ way down one cobblestone street to the next. It was in his nature to fall head over heals for anything that gave him a moments notice. Wasn’t it she who did the same to him when his wife died? Wasn’t it she who found him wanting more in their relationship? After all, the Empress encouraged their relationship and enticed the two of them to meet as often as they could. Suddenly, the sensation of anger started to fall by the way side. Now in it’s’ place was the sensation of haughtiness and pride that got the best of her. “What a fool I’ve been!” She said in a low whisper. Tess looked over at her from her side of the carriage. “Must you proclaim it to everyone?” She said with a smile.
  6. As the carriage drew near the ship of the Archangel, Lilly’s heart began to beat faster. This marriage between him and his new interest of passion was quick…too quick for her liking. In the back of her mind, she wondered if this marriage was a marriage of convenience due to some alarming nature that she was not privy to. Perhaps this marriage was forced by the hand of Aurore’s brothers or even by Aurore herself. It would not be the first time a woman would use her best laurels to capture a man into holy matrimony. She watched as Lady St. Claire climbed down from the carriage and requested the attention of the Boson. The stocky, full breaded man came forward and smiled sheepishly. Lilly could hear the questions that Tess placed towards the Boson, only to get half answers and one-word replies. Finally, she turned quickly and raced back to the carriage. The driver assisted her back into the cab. “Men are idiots!” She muttered under her breath then gave a quick and suddenly stare out the window to the Boson who still as smiling like a fool at her. “The whole crewe and Captain are at the Church. I hope we have not missed the ceremony! Driver, quickly to the Church!”

  9. She was not accustom to dressing in a rush. She quickly pressed a damp rag of water, vinegar and orange rinds under her arms and around her neck. Not a proper bath, but it would have to do. Her hair still matted from last night sleep quickly was brushed back into a single bun and the rest fell loose about her shoulders. Lastly, she quickly changed from her lowly Mantua gown of blue to a proper gown of pink and green. She would never disgrace the Captain by not wearing the proper attire for his wedding. “Wedding.” She said to herself and the very word caused pain to her head and heart. She winced at every syllable that passed her lips. Grabbing her gloves and tossing on her left slipper, she dashed down the stairs to the tavern below. It was there she looked at the barkeep and begged some assistance. “I acquire a carriage, quickly.” She muttered as she tried to put on one glove. “Where be thee going, Mistress?” The barkeep asked. “To the dock where the Archangel is listed. I must be there quickly.” With a nod, the barkeep acknowledged a man near the door. “He’ll take thee. He knows the way.” With a low curtsy, Mistress McKinney followed the man down the street to where the carriage was parked. The man opened the door to the carriage and there waiting inside was Lady St. Claire. “Oh?” Tess muttered to Lilly as she climbed in the carriage. “I thought you of all people would not be invited to this affair. Tess’ tone of voice was filled with sarcasm. Lilly looked back at her as she took the seat across from her. “Yes, as I thought the same for you. Do you think the crewe will let you broad ship?” With a sly smile, Tess replied. “I have something special for the Groom and Bride.”

  11. After a long night of deep sleep, Mistress McKinney awoke to the sounds of a busy street. The sun had finally come out and the day was warm. Lilly moved slowly at first, trying to muster herself awake that was until she herd a knock at the door of her room. “Mistress?” Called out the serving girl, Bess. “I am to inform you that the good Doctor Reiley and his assistant have made their way to the docks this morning.” Lilly quickly through on her robe and opened the door slowly, only showing a crack of herself behind the large oak door. “What’s this?” She said yawning slightly as the she looked down at Bess. “If you please Mistress, I have been informed to tell you that both Doctor Reiley and Mr. Davis have gone to the docks to meet with Captain Sterling upon their ship, the Archangel.” Lilly nodded in blind agreement to the statement the girl was making. “Oh, yes..yes..yes…and did they say why they were going to the docks to visit the Captain?” The young girl paused for a moment then looked down at the floor. “Yes, they said that they were to partake in a ceremony, Mistress.” With an inquiring look, Lilly pressed another question. “What kind of ceremony?” “I think I heard Mr. Davis say, a wedding ceremony.” It was then Lilly found herself very sober. “Whose wedding did he say it was? Come now, Bess…out with it, quickly?!” It was then Mistress McKinney’s fears were confirmed. “Yes, Captain Sterling’s wedding. He is to marry Aurore Devareaux this morning.” and with that, Lilly quickly slammed the door shut upon the girl. “You best hurry!” Yelled Bess from the other side of the door. “I think you have less than two hours before the celebration!”
