It was almost quarter past the hour by the time the good doctor arrived. “Mistress?” He said as he knocked upon her door. She responded with, “Enter.” As he walked through the dimly light room he could tell that she was still suffering. “Mistress? I hear from Mr. Davis that you are…not well?” Lilly’s face now drawn from lack of sleep and the abundance of stress could be seen even in the dimly lit room. “I am not well. I require sleep, but it escapes me.” The doctor knelt down to Lilly’s side and examined her eyes and the color of her skin. “Perhaps another bleeding is in order?” “No,” She said pulling away from his touch. “Nothing seems to help this pain. Leave me if you cannot do anything for me.” The hurt expression upon the doctor’s face was evident. “I…I am fearful of leaving you in this state?” She waved her hand impatiently. “You have nothing to fear. Now, do you have anything for me?” The good doctor let out a sigh. “I can administer a tea that will help you sleep, but nothing that will cure what ails your heart, Mistress.” With a sorrowful look, Lilly cast her eyes to her bed linen. “I thought as much.” Her tone was soft and light. “Then leave me to my own means, Doctor if you have nothing to suit me.” It was then the doctor rose and left her side, as he got to the door he hesitated, as if to say something, but fearing that this was neither the time nor place, he kept quiet. “Good night, Mistress.” He said as he shut the door. Mistress Lilly said nothing in return.

Doctor Rieley returned Mistress McKinney to the Three Crowns as promised. Making sure that she was comfortable in her room, the doctor sent up Mr. Davis to make sure she was secure in her needs. “After a good rest, I shall call for you evening meal, Mistress.” Mr. Davis said at the edge of the doorway. The Mistress turned towards Mr. Davis and shook her head. “I shall not be taking an evening me this night. I have not the strength to do so.” Mr. Davis’ face fell. “Shall I send over Dr. Reiley, Mistress?” She cast her eyes back towards Mr. Davis and in a low whispers said, “Please do so, and ask him if he has a cure for a broken heart.”

Lilly looked back at the inferno that now look like some monstrous mass of flame and smoke. From where she stood she could see Captain Sterling and his crew assist in the task of trying to extinguish the fire. She watched as the Captain shouted commands and pushed his men into vigor and form. “Will he be alright?” Said Lilly turning towards the doctor. “He is just getting over his injury and I fear that…” “Now, now, never you mind.” The good doctor said quickly taking her hand and leading her away from the chaos of the crowds and flame. “I will make sure that Mr. Davis keeps an eye on him in our absence. As of now, we need to get you back to some place safe.” “Where do you suggest?” Lilly said looking a bit confused at his concern. “The Three Crowns for now.” And with that Doctor Rieley quickly pulled her through the crowds and noticed Mr. Davis occupying his time with Wee Bess. Reiley’s eyebrows raised a bit. “Remind me to talk to Mr. Davis when we see him next.”

Oh Johnny...are we going to play that game you like so much?! Remember, I need not have to move to put a smile on that face of yours! Are you taking notes, Aurore?

LOL! You really think he was evil? Gee, I just thought he was going through one of those, "I was an unloved child" thing. Hey, has any one heard from old Reggie as of late? Is he still 'watching' us as he promised?

My dear Captain. The Shipp was a real inn during the late 1690s in Port Royal. I have documented proof of this. As far as the location...sorry to say I am not sure of that as of the moment.

Just don't forget who had him first, Aurore. Please remember that he is like a child with a new toy....he will soon tire of it soon enough.

Lilly suddenly felt all eyes upon her. She franticly looked about the church until the glaring eyes of Tess St. Claire were looking back at her. With a hard swallow, Lilly tried to recapture her composure as the felt herself sway lightly. It was then good Dr. Rieley took her arm and whispered to her. “You must say something to defend our good Captain.” As Lilly looked up and smiled lightly into the face of her dear doctor, she realized that she had to step in and disband this unruly crowd. “Good People,” Lilly said raising her hand and her voice. “I am acquainted with Captain Sterling and knew of him and his dearly departed wife. I know no other who has taken her place until now. I fear that Lady St. Claire only seeks revenge upon our good Captain!” It was then Lady Tess St. Claire approached Mistress Lilly and with glaring eyes she raised her hand and struck her hard upon the face. “Foolish Bitch!” Tess cried as two of the crew members quickly grabbed her from doing any more damage to Mistress Lilly. Lilly stood there in shock as Dr. Rieley assisted the two men in apprehending Lady Tess. “Let go of me!” Tess shouted. “If any harm comes to my being I swear that you and your beloved Captain will never see your little boy every again!” It was then Lilly quickly raised her hand for the release of Tess. “Let her go…I beg you.” Lilly looked back at the Captain for a moment. He could tell that Lilly was distressed by the threat. Tess stood their smoothing out her the front of her gown and looking slightly disheveled. “I shall bring you proof, Captain and prove to the people you are not whom you say you are.” Tess quickly made her way to the doors of the church. “Middling Sort!” She shouted back at him as she dashed out of the church.

Mistress Lilly looked back at the Captain. She knew that there was a time he would do anything for her and yet, at this moment she could not bring herself to step forward and denounce such claims that Lady St. Claire was making as of the moment. She felt helpless and ashamed.

Lilly and Reiley looked back at each other in dread and in surprise. Lilly’s eyes suddenly met with the Captain’s own. She quickly mouthed the words..“’Twas not my idea.” But if he was able to make out the words she used, he did not acknowledge her. She could see his face turn to crimson and he quickly grabbed the hilt of his sword. Would he do the unthinkable and draw blood on his wedding day?
