  1. Karen Allen, the woman who was in the first Indiana Jones movie. She could out-drink anybody, and could put up a fight.
  2. What was your name? I would say you don't need to delete your name. Unless it's a temptation and you don't be getting work done. Just keep it and pop in from time to time while your checking other pirate sites and say hello and let us know all is well.
  3. El Pirata - yep. I wanted a tattoo but got the piercings instead cause I chickened out. I really do think that the tat would have hurt less then these darned ears have over 4 months. I have 4 piercings in the one ear and one in the other. I was hoping to add 2 more to the one ear so I could run earrings all the way around. But I thought these would have been healed by now. Last night I took all of them out and left them out all night and then soaked in epsom salts this morning. Hopefully I will still be able to put the earrings back in today. I will be getting a tattoo, hopefully if I get to PIP in the keys this winter. Still researching what to get,
  4. I can definitely relate. I got several piercings in my one ear over the summer. And they are still not really healed. I have figured recently that part of it is what the earing is made of. Alcohol is bad for a piercing. Salt water is much better. When my ocean temp was a bit warmer if I went swimming I felt much better. They were practically healed. I guess I'm going to go down the water and bring home containers of the stuff and soak the ear in it. Homemade salt water helped, but not as much. I have found that as you go up the ear the piercings get harder to heal. I truly am only recently able to sleep on this ear.
  5. Hello, ElPirata - Glad to see yet another pirate whose vehicle is a Jeep. I wish I could drive my Jeep down to the keys. Would be mighty nice to take the ride topless.
  6. Mr. Christian from mutiny on the bounty fame is in my family tree. Not quite a pirate but a mutineer who came to live on a lovely island.
  7. Well here she comes. NC and Virginia are feeling the wrath, and already have power outages. Here in Ocean City, NJ the surf is kicking, the wind is starting and the skies are dark. I have everything secure except for moving my cars to high ground. I shouldn't need to do that til late this afternoon.
  8. I too am searching for a coin to wear around my neck. I'm not sure if I want somethiing with a hole in it or something which has had a band put around it for the chain to go onto. I would like gold, and would really love something authentic even if it was in rough shape. I have seen items on e-bay but sometiimes feel that the dealers are dishonest.
  9. Oh no, I forgot about Maryland this weekend. I would say it will be a no go if it is near the coast at all. Even if Isabel doesn't hit land there, twill be plenty of fall outt. Here on the Jersey coast I be battening down the hatches. Same theory. If we don't get the hurricane dead on, we will likely get it as it weakens into a tropical storm and winds it's way up the coast and out to sea. I live ocean block and I will be taking all of my autos off the island. Also, gathering important papers and photos up, and maybe getting in some canned goods and bottled water just in case. Here in NJ they often forget we are in hurricane zone. It's been like 14yrs since anything stronger then a category 2 has hit our shore. Since then many valuable properties have sprouted up right on the water. Sooner or later one of these storms will hit here.
  10. Key Lime Inn is near Mallory Sq. I don't know about the other inn. It looks a bit further out on the map.
  11. I was also thinking about here. A friend recommended it. http://circumvista.com/keywestbandb.html#Rooms or here also recommended http://keylimeinn.com/ They will run a little bit more then the other place but they come recommended and get good reviews on alot of web sites. Seeing as it will be my 20th wedding anniversary I may splurge the bit extra. First I have to see what I'm going to pay for airfare.
  12. Also am curious about Santa Maria. Doing a search on expedia for rooms and it comes up as $79. a night. You might want to know that so you know how it rates room and flight seperate/comp. package.
  13. My thought is that if I stay too far out, every time I want to do something I will have to drive and find parking. Is it possible to stay close enough to the action to be able to walk around, without paying too much for my room? I live in a tourist town and know what it's like to try to find parking and to accumulate a stack of parking tickets. I'm not sure how Key West is laid out. On my island, which I believe is comparable in size, there is not much you can't walk to.
  14. rosalinda, let me know how it goes. I am thinking on doing this at Pirates in Paradise. Still looking at lots of ideas for the tat I want to get.
  15. Well, it was a great time. The ship guild put us to work so fast your head would spin. There is also a 1901 tug that they have restored that always needs work, so we spent the day scraping paint off of this in prep for some new paint. Then I cleaned up the work room, where they have every tool imaginable including a small forge, while husband banged together giant chains for some project and drilled wood for something else. Once out on the gazela, more work. The boat is beautifully restored and just had all new decking put in. What especially impressed me was how long it took to actually depart, and how long after we pulled into dock until all was finished. We got out for approx. a 4 hour trip. The goal really was to turn her around as there is work needing doing on the other side of her. It was also an instructional cruise on raising and lowering the sails. I felt like I was in French class in high school where they only speak French, forcing you to learn it. I could go on an instructional cruise like this every weekend for 2 months and still not know the proper name for all of the lines and such. I wanted to pitch in, but was hesitant because I feared pulling the wrong thing and causing everything to go wrong. But they needed every hand, including the new volunteers so I was forced to pitch in. I felt very clutzie though, and was not securing ropes clock-wise, or tossing them starting with the right ends, and things like this. It is alot of work for the crew to take her out like this, as they are woefully short of truly experienced hands. The two or three folks on-board who really knew what they were doing were constantly moving, plus trying to get us to do the right thing. I am hoping that by spending more time in the boat house and doing projects on the gazela, some of the terms will come easier, and next time we are out, when a command is shouted I will at least know what direction to head to. What I need is a photo with all the names of the ropes and sails and parts of the sails on it. They took her to several expos, and trips of one to two weeks this summer, plus weekend outings. I would love to get in enough volunteer time to be eligable for one of these.
  16. I will be taking an introductory sailing trip aboard the Gazela out of Philadelphia tomorrow. This is in prep to becoming volunteer crew, lots of painting and scrubbing and general maintenance to be done over the winter. I think she is beautiful.
  17. Capt. Flint - when you find the title let me know the book about shipwrecks and pirates around Cape May. As this is where I live, I'd be interested.
  18. I actually preferred Rob Roy to Braveheart and everybody thought I was crazy.
  19. I'm guessing Brad is the kid? He is the one I always forget.
  20. Can't type in instumental music but it's the them to one of my top ten favorite movies ever which is on right now....... The Magnificent Seven Can you name who played all seven heroes? What are your fave movies? Another big favite with the famous quotes.. Hello, my name is Inego Montoya, you keeled my father, prepare to die.. As you wish Life is pain, highness, anybody who says differently is selling something Can you guess the movie, I'm sure you can.
  21. $30,000. sounds like a bargain captain. I need to get some names of pirate groups who perform skits, and I need some pirate presence just for color. I need to start getting some idea of the cost for things.
  22. Wow, Met with the city planning comittee and the the chamber of commerce. They love the idea, and love all the suggestions for events. It has to be discussed with one other person, but they want to do it. It really looks like it's going to be a go. So, anybody with any ideas I'm still looking for input.
  23. Another good Buffett nautical song is Captain and the Kid never used to miss the chance to climb up on his knee And listen to the many tales of life upon the sea We'd go sailing back on Barkentines we'd talk of things he did Tomorrow just a day away for the Captain and the kid His world had gone from sailing ships to raking mom's backyard He never could adjust to land although he tried so hard We both were growing older then and wiser with the years That's when I came to understand the course his heart still steers He died about a month ago while winter filled the air And though I cried I was so proud to love a man so rare He's somewhere on the ocean now that's where he oughta be With one hand on the starboard rail he's wavin' back at me I never used to miss the chance to climb up on his knee And listen to the many tales of life upon the sea We'd go sailing back on Barkentines talk of things he did The world was just a day away for the Captain and the kid For the Captain and this kid And now I must stop, cause I could post a ton of lyrics. I know people think of Jimmy Buffett as silly stuff, but if you go back to the older stuff which he mostly authored you will find a ton of great stuff.
