  1. I ask because I've had a few emails come to me in the past day asking where their summer Pirates Magazine was. I verified that these were not subscribers to The Pyrates Way and told them that I had no idea when the PM issue was coming out. Anyone get their magazine so I can tell concerned subscribers what the deal is? None of them get any response either by telephone or by email from PM. I'd like to give people more of an answer than "I don't know, it's not my business". . . that's not how I do things. Please let me know!
  2. The magazine has now reached the 84 page limit I set for it. . . that's 20 pages more than usual! We're celebrating our first year in a big way with articles about ghost pyrates, pyrate discipline at sea, The Phantom, REAL pyracy of the 1960s ( a new series of pyrate articles by decade), Pyrates Choice Rum, further info on POTC movies, and a ton more! You want up-to-date info on PyrateCon08? we have it Photos from "International Talk Like A Pyrate Day"? we have it Of course we feature 4 HOT pyrate wenches, humour, information, and the most-updated pyrate event calendar anywhere! www.pyratesway.com
  3. The organizers of PyrateCon 2008 are in New Orleans for a few days getting all the groundwork laid for what will be an incredible experience for everyone. The group is meeting not only with event, hotel, and vendor folks but have an appointment with the Mayor of New Orleans to talk about his involvement with the Con!!! Updates will be printed in The Pyrates Way magazine in every issue and expect to see marketing materials online and in your mailbox about the PyrateCon. The Pyrates Way is a major supporter and sponsor of PyrateCon 2008. With the fiasco that was PyrateCon2007 (read about that in the Summer Pyrates Way magazine), the new organizers of PyrateCon 2008 have turned the event into a mega-event with stars of Pirates of The Caribbean leading the venue. www.pyratecon.com is the only official website for PyrateCon 2008 and information is changing weekly so visit often! PyrateCon2008 is going to ROCK!
  4. We stole 'em, mate. We stole 'em after some cully pinched Marley's tea chest bass. Ahhh, the electric guitar. . . . electrically amped stringed instruments date back to DaVinci when he tested metal coils strummed and the sounds they made when filled with static electricity. . . Thus. . . . . YOU STILL ROCK!
  5. Magazine has shipped from the printer. . . it'll be in your hands next week, mates!
  6. On Friday, August 3, 2007 The Piratez Tavern in Silver Spring, MD will be hosting the One Year Anniversary party for The Pyrates Way magazine. From 730-9 will be for staffmembers only but at 9pm the patio will be open for everyone to join in on the party! The first 100 in the door will get FREE issues of the inaugural Pyrates Way magazine and bring a Sharpee™ because you can have the copy signed by editors, the publisher, wenches of the quarter and even the cover model! You'll also have the chance to purchase the most recent Summer Issue and the opportunity to subscribe! Piratz Tavern will have a drink special, we're sure, but come on out and party with The Pyrates Way!! Piratz Tavern 8402 Georgia Avenue Silver Spring, MD 20910 301 588-9001 quartermaster@piratztavern.com http://www.piratztavern.com/
  7. Aye, but The Pyrates Way will be set up to sell our rag via issue and subscription (again). Supporting the idea of PyrateCon is as important as the wave of income brought into the city of New Orleans to assist in its rebuilding. I think the point is well-made that we're 10 months out from the actual event and anything can and will happen when it comes to schedules of entertainers and speakers. The lineup of folks listed thus far is a very interesting group and I hope several speakers such as Jamaica Rose and Cindy Vallar return in '08. A pyrate can't help but wonder what would happen to our "pyrates-only" convention if a few big-name celebrities were included. For the sake of example, what if one of the four major PotC leads attended? I believe the convention would grow from a thousand or two into a huge 10-thousand-person event with most of the guests not being pyrates at all! My worry is that as a smaller group, we're a highlight in New Orleans. . . . as a huge group, we'd just be another Star Trek™-esque convention. Just my two-cents, but I'd rather have a concentrated group of folks who are really into the hobby/lifestyle/re-enactment than a watered-down mob of people in Johnny Depp t-shirts.
  8. The Summer issue goes to press today! Woohoo! It's our fourth issue and that makes a full year of being in business, supporting and supported by the pyrate community! There are a lot of folks on this site that subscribe to the magazine and a few that help edit each issue. We couldn't do this without your assistance. . . We hail you all with many huzzahs and booty! www.pyratesway.com (btw)
  9. I believe that the new PyrateCon folks are settling in still, so there's still dust in the air. I'd wait to see some concrete information from them before discussing it. Speculation and rumour seem to hurt more than they help. . . please stand by!
  10. The Virginia Renaissance Faire will be celebrating their Pyrate Invasion this coming weekend (June 16-17). What better way to spend Fathers' Day than with a bunch of pyrates and very HOT wenches! From their website: The shire is awash with pirates and privateers! Our Costume Contest will have a special category for Best-Dressed Pirate. Special Guests: The Pyrates Royale(www.pyrates.com) LOCATION: Lake Anna Winery 5621 Courthouse Road Spotsylvania, VA C'mon out and see what The Pyrates Way has in store for the faire. . . actually we'll have a store there. . .uh. . . but you can't come in. . . but you can look from the outside and buy at our table which is just inside the store but nefariously close to the open front of said store in that it will be completely accessible to the buying/subscribing pyrate public. --- end of long-winded plug.
  11. Fixed and thank you. . . . I have to stop drinking and THEN posting and do it the other way around.
  12. I had an incredible time at the festival and my hats off and heart goes out to the entire Blackbeard's crew, Jury Rig crew, and those of the Devilmen and several others who helped in the dry-set-up and wet-take-down. Although this was not my first visit to the festival, it was the first time I was given the opportunity to interect with all the pyrates who made this possible. . . . and they treated me as one of their own, with open arms and friendliness. Although the festival ended in the deluge of Tropical Storm Barry, Saturday more than made up for it, with warm sunshine and a packed-in crowd. I'd say more about the incredible time Friday night at the ball but I had so much fun that I've uh. . . forgotten some of it! LOL Here is a link to 47 of the 250 photos I took at the festival, many of which will end up in the Summer issue of The Pyrates Way! Pyrates Way Photos of Blackbeard Fest
  13. Remember, all I said is to ]Be careful in your expectations. -- Hurricane opened the door for conversation. As to the actual event, one of many I've been to in three decades of nautical/maritime events, . . . . there were so many speaker rooms (according to what was promised) . . . our booth was in the vey small, overflow vendor's room even though my full payment for space was made months prior to the event (A vendor or two got FREE space. . . you vendors please discuss this among yourselves as to how fair that is). As to being in front of A (not THE) speaker's room . . . the first day had 8 folks waiting for a speaker who never showed. Down from the 8th floor to the first, past the lobby, through the actual restaurant and by the paper sign that said "more venders (note spelling) this way" we finally got word to pass on that the scheduled speaker was hungover and was found asleep. The next speaker was still on the schedule but had cancelled some weeks before due to other commitments (POTC makeup guy). Was the room ever filled with pyrates? YES! When Cindy Vallar and the Pirate Guys (plus Mad Molly) were there, indeed it was filled. Not so with other speakers. We literally counted 350 folks past our booth all weekend and most of those were "repeat" passing folk. Sad that even the staff of the event did not know that there were vendors and a speaker's room on another floor. . .albeit 7 floors down and hidden in the back of the hotel. But I'm not bitter. . . We'll be back next year. . .as long as ISP is not involved, which I hope happens before 2008. ISP promised far too many things that came up short (feel free to ask the managers of various pubs on Bourbon Street and surrounding area as I have investigated. . . who've not been paid. . . . ask next year's hotel if they have had any deposit made for the convention. . .) Ask Margaritaville about check problems and promises still not kept to The Funky Pirate. What happened to the Sponsor's banners and WHY was the program to the convention actually xerox copies of the first few pages of the Spring issue of The Pyrates Way, yet we were slammed by the ISP after many (and I repeat MANY) broken promises and expectations. I guess it was our bad to trust ISP. . .it won't happen. . . ever again. Do some research before you back an organization is all I'm saying. IPS has taught me not to trust anyone who has never met you but insists that they're your friend and is out for your best interest. I love the idea of PyrateCon. . . and in the correct and capable hands, it shall be an event of epic pyrate style! I'd really love to be proved wrong by my opinions and observations. Please prove to me that I'm wrong. PLEASE! Ask ISP for a 503 form as a non-profit. . . or just research non-profits in Louisiana for 2006-2008. . . PLEASE! I so LOVED the PyrateCon idea. . . but it needs a real leader and an experienced group that have put conventions together in the past. I can't wait for PyrateCon 2008 in New Orleans under entirely new and capable managment. . . HUZZZAHHHHHH!
  14. Be careful in your expectations. . . that's all I'm sayin'.
  15. The wench and I have our Fandango POTC III tickets for 8:50 tonight. . . .as I type this she's napping in preparation. We were going to "garb up" for it but I'll just wear my most awsome "It's that damn Johnny Depp" T Shirt from Pirates of Pirates of the Great Salt Lake instead.
  16. m'lovely wife cannot attend this time 'round but I'll be there for all three days. . .takin' m'pictures for The Pyrates Way. . . and getting into as much trouble as one pyrate can. I look forward to leeching an ale off of everyone!
  17. Pyrate Convention say ye? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWnxsVcNL2w
  18. The Pyrates Way will be starting a new feature for every issue about pyrate crews. Whether you're a professional troup of entertainers, a guild of pyrates, historical re-enactors, or just a gaggle of rum-imbibing-souls, we want yer story. Here's what we need: 1. Brief few paragraphs about what your group is about, when it got started, who's involved, and where you've been seen. We also need email contact info and if your crew is open to new members. 2. A few photos of your group in action, a group photo, or other important visuals (logo, motto, etc. . .) Send it to: Publisher@pyratesway.com with "Pyrate Group" in the Subject line. This is for publication starting in our Summer issue which has a May 31 deadline, so get ye crackin'!. . . or is that krakken?
  19. email me at: steve@pyratesway.com with "Gimme $50" in the subject line and I'll give you the secret information that might just win you $50 CASH, a free subscription to The Pyrates Way, and to have one special photo from pyratecon printed in the Summer Pyrates Way. It's sneaky and fun. . . thereby fulfilling 2 out of 3 prerequisites for a pyrate activity (if you spend the $50 on rum, you've got all 3 out of 3). Send me a note, mates!
  20. It will be grand to meet ye mate. . . we're stopping over in Huntsville, AL on our way down from the cold shores of Delaware. My Dad moved there about a year ago and I haven't seen him in about a year and a half. I'll bringsome Dogfish Honey Rum with me. . . only made in Delaware and it is the smoothest flavoured rum ever. . not too much of the honey flavour. . .and excellent on the rocks and iced-cold. See you in a few days mate! (I've almost finished packing the truck!)
  21. I've been on the phone practically every day with the director of PyrateCon. . . they're really super busy dotting all the I's and crossing the T's. . . they're out getting all the paperwork done with the city so traffic will be stopped for the HUGE Pyrate Parade (the throwing of beads and pyrate stuff is going to ROCK!). M'wench and I have started setting up our "staging area" of all the stuff we have to pack into the truck. She also just finished a black on black pyrate captain's coat with gold and maroon trim. . . not going to wear it until the Privateer's Ball during the Con. The Spring Pyrates Way will have the Con's brochure printed right into its pages, so make sure you get one when you get to New Orleans. I CAN"T WAIT (does it show?)
  22. Thar also be many tune of chanty nature. . pyrates, sea tunes, riverboat tunes, anything about the water upon which we sail at our pyrate radio station on live365: http://www.live365.com/stations/pyratesway Plus we add audio features from the magazine once a month. . . There's only 8 hours of music at a time, but we try to rotate it every few weeks out of our library of 84 hours.
