I just up-loaded four more 17th Century Pyrates on Thingiverse... https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6974239https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6974239

William: I sculpted a long boat (with sails) and posted it and the link to Thingiverse, it's back on the first page.....

Wow... I got banned on Redit for posting the 1/56 scale Pyrates, and the mod hasen't returned my message about what rule I violated... (I read the rules and have no idea why I got banned) Oh well; it will all get sorted out... Anyway, there are 57 downloads for the Spanish Gun crew and 31 for the Pyrates on Thingiverse.... Cool

I just posted the first batch of 1/56th scale (28mm) 17th Century Pyrates on Thingiverse (where they are free to download the .STL files so you can print and paint yer own...) I have another batch that I still have to paint and post kinda soon...
-
Next up will be some Pyrates (once I'm done painting them)

I didn't notice that I had slopped some paint on the Spanish carridge wheele untill I took and posted the picture of it...oops, I'll have to fix that...

I finished and posted the 1/56th Scale (28mm) 17th Century Spanish Gun Emplacement, Cannons, Gun Crew, and Gabions. On Thingiverse.... https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6956322 (The .STL files are free to download.)

Michael... I printed it FDM on my Bambu A1 mini... It took some effort (and some files and sandpaper) to remove all of the supporting "nubs". I painted it with Liquitex acrylics and then gave it (and the paper mache sails) a wash of burnt umber oil paint mixed with mineral spirits (let it set for about an hour, and then wipe off some of the sxcess)

I'm kinda thinking of starting with 100 points for both the Pyrates and the Spanish... That way it won't take too long for the first game, and I can make any changes/fix stuff if needed for later games. I can make both sides with the 100 points for the first game, or if someone wants to set-up their side, We can do it that way. If more than two people want to play, then we can split up the sides and let each player have part of the Army.

I made a more accurate two wheel Spanish Gun Carriage, but I have to re-print the cannon barrels (they decided to stay in the resin vat... So after cleaning off the fep sheet, I can try printing them again...) And once I'm done painting the cannons and Spanish gun crew I can post pictures of them and the gun position, the other cannons and carriage, and the extra gabbions all in their colorful glory...

I made some icons for a VTT Blood and Plunder Game on Foundry. I have the “stat/character cards” already made in Foundry, I still have to finish drawing the map, and look-up how to attach icons to movable objects (boats and ships). A minor problem with the icons is that all the “pieces/figures” will be almost all the same. There wont be a different icon for every Pyrate or the Spanish figure on the (VR) table. I might make some more icons, so for example, Freebooters would look different than Sea Dogs...These would be about an inch tall in Foundry....

I just up-loaded the free .STL files for this 1/56th scale longboat and the instructions for the paper mache sail on Thingiverse. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6944858 ..

Yup... here they are, a Spanish Gun Crew to man the cannons. And Gabions (early period sand-bags) to protect the cannons... I still have to do a test print of them, then they are next in-line to get painted... And I have a LOT of painting to do. But once I have enough painted for a good photo, then I will post them on Thingiverse.

I printed the sail in FDM, and was amazed that it printed with as few supports as it did; but the layer lines really show... But I came-up with an idea; I think I will try to use the sail as a mold for a few layers of paper mache. Then I can trim it to fit. I also sculpted a 1/56th scale Spanish 18 pounder cannon and gun carriage.

I sculpted 5 more pyrates wearing shirts and slops with pistols, now to do a test print... I also found a 1/56th scale Longboat on Thingiverse. I had to do some work on it, but got it to print in FDM, I also added the mast and sail, now to see it the sail will print in FDM... If it works, I will post it as a re-mesh on Thingiverse, along with the Pyrate I have sculpted so far

I start with a “base” figure, and then can change their clothing, hats, accouterments and pose to get a lot of different variation of the minis. This is a good example. These are all the exact same figure wearing a waistcoat, and posed differently with different heads and hats. I still have to sculpt some pistols and muskets, then I can pose the exact same mini with a mix of weapons... Yeah I know it kinda cheating, But then I will change their clothing (and heights) and do it all again. Then anyone can choose from a whole buncha minis, mixing (and painting) them up however they want. I still have to do a test print, and then paint them. (the cool thing about Resin printing, is I can print a whole plate of minis, and it takes the same time as just printing one)

I haven't died or nothing like that; but I haven't been doing any Pyrate stuff either. Mostly I've done some Post Apocalyptic cosplay, RPG gaming and 3D miniature sculpting, printing and painting... About two weeks ago, I found rules for the game “Blood & Plunder” that is set in the 17th century Spanish Main. Cool, that's the time that the “Buccaneer Project” was set in... The Rules do have a really good time line of events of the period, and will be useful as a starting point for further research of the period. I'm going to be sculpting some 1/56th scale (28mm) figures for the game. But I want the minis to be Historically accurate. And to make the minis Historically accurate I'm going to have to do some (well... a lot) of research. So I'll post the minis and game stuff where it goes in “Pirate Pop”, and any interesting historical finds here...

Aaaargh... my hard-copy of the Blood and Plunder rules arrived today... And I've been sculpting minis and working on stuff for Foundry VTT (Virtual Table Top) game... I have the unit card template sorta done for Foundry VTT. I have some Pirate and Colonial icons that I could use, but they are out of period and not as cool as what I'm planning on drawing … And I'm doing some research for a good map. When I have that done, I'll look for some Pyrates wot wanna play an on-line game of Blood and Plunder.

I did a test print of the first 1/56th scale (28mm) “Pyrate with tankard” in FDM and Resin... The FDM one was a major pain to remove the supports, and I hadda glue the sword hand back on after it broke... It's kinda rough, but on a gaming table would look OK. The future Pyrates will be in more dynamic/action poses, not as static as this “test”. Now to paint the resin one....

I got thinking about the specific details about FDM vs. Resin 3D printing, and how I should sculpt the Pyrate miniatures... (gotta think about this stuff in advance) I'm thinking that most people would only have (or have access to) FDM printers. When I started sculpting and printing minis, I had an Ender 3 (FDM) printer. It took a lot of fiddling with to get decent prints of 1/56th scale (28mm) minis... So I bought a Mars 4 resin printer, and could get really good prints. I recently bought a Bambu A1 Mini (FDM) printer (with a .2mm nozzle) that can print “almost, but not quite as good as the resin printer”... With Resin minis, the supports are much easier to remove, and can be sculpted with much finer detail. With FDM minis, even with support density set at 7%, the supports are a real pain to deal with. And the parts have to be thicker so any details will print, But if I cut/slice the minis, so all the parts can be printed with fewer supports, and would print better. (but they would have to be glued together once they were printed ) So to make a long story short(er); I think I might have to sculpt them for Both, FDM and Resin printers.

I'm starting to sculpt some 1/56th. scale (28mm) Pyrate miniatures in Blender for a game of “Blood and Plunder”. And I figured I post some of them here as I go along... This is the first one so far, It isn't “rigged” yet, so it's still in a “T” pose, but once I have a bit more done on it, (weapons, belts, etc...) I will then rig and pose it, and then 3D print and paint it. I saw in another thread where Stynky thought a Pyrate with a tankard would be cool, so that might be next. I remember how much people (kinda) enjoyed seeing themselves in the Pyrate Comic, so I might do something like that for the minis.... Oh yeah... I don't sell the minis, but post them on Thingiverse where the .STL files are free to download and print. Outta curiosity, does anyone here also have a 3D printer ?
-
"Do you sell through MyMiniFactory or elsewhere?" I give away the .stl files for 3D printing on Thingiverse... Just search for 'designerpatt" Right now most of the minis are Sci/fi or Gamma World. But I have half a Pyrete sculpted in Blender so-far...(I'll post a picture when I'm farther along with it...) Mary Diamond There isn't much Pyrate stuff going on localy... When I was in "Tales of the Seven Seas" they did a lot of stuff outta the SF Bay Area... So setting up a Foundry VTT game would allow me to kinda-sorta keep in touch with Pyrate goings-on....
