  1. For anyone with the slightest experience in RC modeling, it is nigh impossible to convert a man- o- war static display model into a swimming, let alone radio controllable model. You almost invariably end up scratch building the hull again, because the displacement of a model is nowhere near big enough. A scale model with a scale hull would sink like a stone. Also, you will need to build a detachable keel, as the center of gravity would be too high in a model and the model would capsize in even the slightest breeze. And I am not even talking about controlling the running rigging so that such a model can actually perform real sailing maneuvers. In other words, RC tall ships is model building's Big League and definitely not for the uninitiated. aye it is true to be too top heavy but thats why rc boats have weights added in the hull, even the ready to sail rc boats have a weight on the bottom, not the most period looking but it works. if you get a hull with a deep enough cut into the water it would be easy enough to glue the weights into the bottom, which could also be used to level an un level hull.
  2. yep only way is to make your own all rc sailboats are either modern yacht or boring hulled sloop style like the dumas ship. but dumas makes a sail control unit for making your own boat so i might get a big model boat kit and add the sail control unit on the sails and just getting the hinges for the rudder off of dumas http://www.dumasestore.com has all the hardware.
  3. ill be there, but ill be working at imaginarium.
  4. heh i thought thats what it was... figured id keep my mouth shut caz i wasn't positive :) I think im gunna go for the swashbuckler job.

  6. I had my interview at the PARF today and it went well and I was given a list of positions to choose from. I only listed the costumed ones since thats what I want to do :) What position do yall think I should take? Description here: Gate Greeter: Welcoming the patrons to the faire... welcoming committee extraordinaire. Those assigned this position will set the stage for the day. Polite greetings and salutations are required. Example welcoming: "Push and shove, push and shove, take small children firmly by the hand and drag them through the dirt!" Royal Tee Assistant: This is a costumed position requiring much creativity to attract attention to merchandise for sale at these shops. Privy Attendant: Basic job is cleaning the johns, but are asked to set them up their own style with candles lotions or whatever(not very fun in my eye but ill post it up lol) Shire Maintenance: Basically just walk around pick up trash and help people. Beer Bartender: Self explanatory Cart Runner: Run carts around with stuff in it from stand to stand(water/ice/whatever) Swashbuckler(the parf owned beer place in the faire makes own beer) Retail Assistant: A costumed position that requires the ability to interact with the customers while providing information on the brewing process and Swashbuckler Merchandise. Im leaning toward Gate Greeter or swashbuckler assistant what yall think?

Heck ill be alright though just finished my gaming comp. 3.2ghz 2gig ram 512 mb pci express radeon vid card :) its a shame their beta is closed tho id like to give it a try.
  11. I am actually thinking about picking up a sunflower 3.3 the slightly better model of a super snark for the slightly wider width, front splash deck w/ storage and center seat that the super snark doesn't have. Both are neat boats though castlecraft.com and sailboatstogo.com both have them 800 for super snark and 1169 or so for sunflower 3.3
  12. lol its a darn good thing there is a law protecting parodies huh?! Funny though, and o so true.

  17. MOST LIKELY DATE : OCT 14 Ok lasses and gents lets see if we can get a group for a weekend or day at the PARF. http://www.parenfaire.com/ It seems that the pirate weekend unfortunately may not be the best with the unfortunate competitive scheduling so perhaps we could plan for another weekend to get a larger group. I don't know how everyones schedule is but the halloween daze weekends are also fun and the cooler weather is a nice addition. Here is a list of all of the themed weekends. 26 Year Love A-Faire (Aug. 12-13). Join the Shirefolk as we swing wide the Castle Gates to our glorious 26th season. Love & Romance (Aug. 19-20). Romantic rogues & flirtatious wenches dedicate a weekend to lovers of all ages. Music & Dance (Aug. 26-27). Musicians & dancers from around the world descend upon the Shire to “Kick Things Up” just a bit more! Children’s Fantasy (Sept. 2-4). Smiles of young Squires and Princesses are the Queen’s joy and thus come three days of fantasy-filled delights of which dreams are made. An Irish Gathering (Sept. 9-10). Jig your way to the Stepdancing Stage as Irish foods, music, and dance fill the Shire. A Scottish Fling (Sept. 16-17). Kilts a’plenty, Bagpipe Bands, Highland Games Competitions, Scottish Wares & Foods, Music & Highland Dancing, Sheepherding and Scots everywhere! Invasion of the Pirates • Media Olympics (Sept. 23-24). Eye-patched, hook-handed men of the seas roam the Shire while members of the media join in games of skill benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Octoberfest (Sept. 30-Oct 1). Pennsylvania Dutch goes Deutsch with a toast to micro-brewed ales from the Faire’s very own Swashbuckler Pub plus the colorful music & dance of Octoberfest. Wine Harvest (Oct. 7-8). Celebrate the time-honored tradition of the wine harvest. Grape stomping, special wine events, wine tastings and 25% case discounts. Halloween Daze & Spooky Knights (Oct. 14-15, 21-22, & 28-29). Three devilishly delightful weekends of mystery & mayhem as creatures & spooks of every variety haunt the Shire for our annual celebration of All Hallows Eve, complete with tricks & treats for children of all ages. Dress in your favorite costume for fun & prizes. Pyrates Definately In: kaizoku Mercenary Wench(will be there working) callenish gunner Silkie McDonough lady snow Pyrates Interested: Duchess Also, I was thinking we could go out to eat after the end of the faire, a good but rather expensive option is Bubes Brewery which isn't scheduled out that far but if im not mistaken the pirate feast they have would fall on a halloween daze weekend. The pirate feast they have is in the catacombs and is a very good feast, I have attended it twice they actually like it when garb is worn especially to the pirate feast. We eat on very uneven floor lol, with pewter plates and all the staff is pirate attire. The food on this feast is of the caribean decent. Their meals are good on regular days as well. http://www.bubesbrewery.com/ So if anyone has any ideas for weekend, would like to post in for attendance or interest, or has another idea for food please post in! I have yet to meet anyone from the pub even though there are some very local to me pyrates lol.
  18. aye harsh competition at its finest well if there is any other weekend that everyone would like to do ? the halloween one is another fun one but its late in the season if that matters to anyone.
  19. Hey that does sound nice! Will you be out at the festival to give me a tour as well? This could be a full service operation! Full faire ride if me does say so meself I can't wait for this faire season and meet some of the pyracy pub pyrates! We should all have gathering on the pirate weekend! Perhaps with a post faire gathering for some good grub!
  20. I actually think i found this site through a search engine
  21. I don't know how you feel about it, but you were male in your last earthly incarnation. You were born somewhere in the territory of modern East Australia around the year 775. Your profession was that of a map maker, astrologer, astronomer. Your brief psychological profile in your past life: Timid, constrained, quiet person. You had creative talents, which waited until this life to be liberated. Sometimes your environment considered you strange. The lesson that your last past life brought to your present incarnation: Your main task is to make the world more beautiful. Physical and spiritual deserts are just waiting for your touch. Keep smiling!
  22. that thing is sweet lol I wish i could airbrush like that , there is a huge dually around here that goes to shows and isnt pirate itself but he sets up his area like a pirate area with chains and a skeleton in the seat and a treasure chest and stuff. im currently doing my lifted chevy pickup i use for camping and boating and stuff as kinda piratey(has pirate flags and black/red color scheme going to paint a jolly roger from the hood to the fender and stuff)
  23. Also there is a campground about half a mile or so away, right at the entrance to the turnpike. Its a decent campground also.
  24. http://www.unclejohns.com/skiff/Default.htm I was going to purchase their kit which is 130 for all the wood except the bottom and sides. I am also going to buy their rudder hardware but make my own sail since they only make blue and white(im gunna do black) Here are some pics of the kit done So has anyone ever attempted this? Im a bit worried about the fiberglassing for waterproofing part the rest I think I should be ok with. Has anyone ever fiberglassed something like this that could shoot me some pointers? Also, does anyone know where I can get old hooks and stuff that look like they are from the piratical times? I plan to paint it a wooden color(preferably figure out how to stain over fiberglass cloth if its possible? I dont know. Or maybe black. And also unlike the second picture who used side boards I want to set it up like the top one with the center dagger board that folds up like the rudder for beach landings. And for another question anyone know where to acquire a mini mermaid for the front of the vessel?
  25. to the person asking about flying in: gettysburg pa is a wonderful place to stay, especially if your into paranormal stuff or civil war or just old time stuff. its about an 1hr15-1hr30min away from the ren faire.
