  1. 1. As long as the game is active, new quotes can only be posted by the person guessing the previously posted quote correctly. 2. If no one guesses a quote within one week of its posting, the previous quote is forfeited and a new quote can be posted by the first person to notice this. 3. If no one can guess a quote within 48 hours of posting, the quote poster must give a hint or forfeit their turn. 4. If someone guesses a quote, the quote poster must respond within 48 hours of forfeit their turn. 5. No one can exclude Duchess from guessing, not even Mission. Not specifically . . . but I would think that No. 2 covers it and if a week goes by then YOU can give out the answer and then provide a new quote.
  2. Mark, I think you're right. I hope that makes a difference. Of course, in this "World's Funniest Video" world we are traveling through, it might not be a big deal anyway - the average TV watcher probably just wants to see video of this "hilarious" incident! Blackbead
  3. Is that "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid"? Or is it the movie that DMDWP was parodying . . .?
  4. The problem will be that all reenactors will be judged as a class - you can reenact for years without any accidents or mishaps but because someone else fails to take proper precautions your activities are regulated. Secondly, what reenactors do is perceived as a luxury by the masses and the "regulators." Lip service is given to the importance of studying and experiencing history but when push comes to shove a large segment of the public sees reenactors the same way they see LARP members - we are engaging in a hobby that we enjoy but what value do we add that justifies people getting their legs broken?
  5. Hmmm . . . if I can just figure out how to get the good Doctor his fees from the sale of the book. I guess I could recreate the old joke about the client who was dying and asked his doctor, his accountant and his lawyer to each throw $100,000 in cash into the casket when he was being interred. Do you have any idea where Doctor Woodall is buried? Blackbead Shovel at Port Arms
  6. Hmmm, it appears that you can vote as many times as you are willing to go back and click on their page again. As they say in some voting precincts, "vote early and often!" Blackbead
  7. All of my prayers and good thoughts are going his way. May God watch over him and his family; may He grant the boy perfect health and the family perfect peace. Please, God, Perfect Father, be with this little boy. Fill him with your Spirit and heal him.
  8. That I did, m'Lady! I now own me a magic music box that will allow me to hear all of the various songs I want to hear while I be sitting in me pirate's market! I'm putting together a "Pirate Playlist" right now which will include everything from portions of the soundtracks from "The Seahawk" and "Captain Blood" to songs from various pirate groups to songs from "Devil's Tavern"! Look out, Pirate Days! I be coming at ye with both speakers blazin'! Blackbead
  9. I am sure, oh, magister of the thirsty annelid, that ye shall find something among your vials and potions to assuage the pains! I will definitely give "Surgion Woodall" his due but I am thinking what a fine introduction this would make to the "Tales of the Sea" portion of the new book! I may wait until ye have the time to post all three of the pieces and pick the best. I do appreciate your taking the time to do so and count this as just another among the many excellent contributions you have made to the arts! Read on . . . Blackbead
  10. OutSTANDING, Brother Mission! I wonder, do ye think the Goode Doctor would mind if I reprinted his work?? Blackbead
  11. I thank ye all, me friends and pubmates! The anniversary of me birth were a good one! And the pirate weekend at Middlefaire, cut short by the foul weather, was a great one till the rains set in! I still got birthday cake if ye can make it by the house . . . Once again, thank ye all! Blackbead
  12. Thank you, Rumba! That means a great deal coming from you. a poet and person that I personally admire! By the way, did I tell you that I owe you money?? Seriously, I need to get a check out to you, it's not much but I did sell some more of your pouches! Thank you, also, Ransom! It's been a heck of a year and I hope I have a few more just like it! BIG hugs to both of you! Blackbead
  13. Is that "History of the World, Part I"?? I agree with you, Mr. Mission! I definitely enjoyed the Flint films but it was a completely different strain of humor.
  14. LOL! I'm not sure why, Good Surgeon, but for some reason that particular movie has had a rebirth of interest in the recent past. I think that it may have something to do with a James Corburn marathon on TBS or something but the movie was all the rage there for a while a couple of months back. I always thought it was a hilarious movie. Cap'n? You're up!
  15. Just started re-reading War of the Worlds to prepare for a Steampunk short story.
  16. Pew, Go back and check the Articles that Mission put up. I think you got passed over and then we started the thread again. For the millionth time. "Adventureland" Blackbead
  17. Ahoy, all! I've been working quite a bit lately since I'm getting into my BIG show season. I'm in the middle of Middlefaire (hehehe!) and have sold several pieces but there's no one style that is leading the pack. I've sold lots of earrings and they are all lengths and styles. I've sold several sets (necklaces and earrings) but, once again, nothing that EVERYONE wants. I sold a piece made of gold chain with yellow and green dyed howlite nuggets. Most of the things people are wanting are shorter pieces, not the long stuff that was so popular last year. Also, the big chunky stuff is not as popular among my customers as it was last year. It's weird . . . of course, all of the pirate/maritime stuff got lots of looks and some purchases but people are not spending as much money as they did even last year on items like jewelry. I don't think the economy is all that bad but people believe it is really bad so they are playing it safe about spending money on "luxury" items. On a different note, I think I'm going to go back to two different media - polymer clay and bent wire. Both of these make the customer feel like they are getting something that no one else will ever wear. I highly recommend playing with polymer clay! Dang, gotta run! Blackbead
  18. Got it on the first try! Your up, m'hearty!
  19. Ahoy, me friends! The Medieval weekend of Middlefaire was indeed an excellent time! Many old friends were reacquainted with and many new friends were made. The weekend was profitable for the Adventure and it is with great hope that we look forward to the coming weekend, the final weekend of Middlefaire 2009 – THE PIRATE INVASION! “Pirate’s Alley” and “Blackbead’s” took a heavy dose of wind and rain damage during the week between the first two weekends of Middlefaire. We had taken all of our stock away with us but much the “office box” took a direct hit. It’s the plastic tub that we put all of our office supplies in, things like scissors, pens, things to write on, a surge protector for when we travel with the laptop, price tags, etc. There was at least four inches of rainwater in it. Sails were torn down or loose, one of my posts was moving in the water-soaked ground, and the baby mosquitoes were everywhere! But, we put the rigging back in proper order, threw all the dead fish overboard, and we were ready for action by Saturday morning! On Saturday, it actually got crowded in me booth a few times! Lots and lots of people, to include a large percentage that had never been to a Faire before, were out at the Faire, having a great time, and enjoying some excellent weather, some fantastic shows, and great food! This coming weekend, there will be a “Grand Rat Pucking Tournament” that will be open to the public if you wish to participate. There will be a pirate battle with cannon and musket fire, sword fights, and the Blue Moon Boucanniers storming one of the Faire buildings! So come on out and enjoy the Faire! See you this weekend! 20. First speaker: What do I want? I want respect! Respect for human life and respect for American property! And I'm going to send the Atlantic Squadron to Morocco to get that respect. Second speaker: That's illegal. First speaker: Why spoil the beauty of the thing with legality? One of the best movies ever made . . .
  21. William - Excellent! and YES! We are only going to have enough material for ONE book instead of the two that I had envisioned. Currently, I am proposing we call it "Echoes From Other Worlds" (a portion of a line from the poem "It May Be" by Ella Wheeler Wilcox [1855 - 1919])and will have two sections, something like "Tales from the Sea" and "Tales from Other Worlds", but the idea is that it will have a pirate-themed section and a scifi/fantasy-themed section. Ransom - Your piece is currently featured in the second section of the draft and I think it will turn out to be one of the favorites in the book. I'd love to have some illustrations to accompany it and it would be perfect if they were done by you! Also, if you have some other pieces then send them along. The artwork needs to be B&W and roughly 300 dpi. I can play with whatever anyone sends but if it came ot me ready to go it would be perfect. Blackbead
  22. Wow . . . if it's the one I'm thinking of, that is an oldy but a goody! I think that's "Wizards" right at the climax of the film. Am I right?
  23. Greetings, pirate arteests one and all! I'm currently putting together a second anthology of poetry, short stories, and artwork. This year's work will include both pirate-themed and scifi/fantasy-themed pieces. Last year's books has sold almost 200 copies and while we aren't getting rich it has been extremely rewarding, in so many other ways, to have my work in publication. For instance, Raising Black Flags, last year's book, will be featured at a book signing at the Texas Renaissance Faire's Pirate Adventure weekend! Four of the other poets and I will get to sit behind a table and sign autographs and sell copies of the book to that portion of the 50,000 people who want to stop and talk with us! This is a joint venture. We all contribute work, I pay the initial costs (very slight), and then we split the profits. What I am looking for are black and white pieces (that keeps the selling cost of the book down) that will look good in a 8.5" x 11" format (I think that's what we're going to go with this time). If you are interested in seeing your work in print, drop me a line and let's get parleying! THe book will be going out in time for Christmas (yes, if you get me something before the middle of October it can still be a part of this project!) Blackbead
  24. Ah-HAH! ITLAP Day, 2009, was incredible! We spent the day vending at Middlefaire - Pyrat rum, Shiner Bock, and pirate tales amidst a pack of wild patrons all jabbering away with their best Long John Silver "arrrrrrgs" and "maties" and "shiver me timbers"! It were profitable, it were fun, and it were even moving on occasion! Can't wait for next year!! Blackbead
