  1. The quote is from "Sin City" but I have no idea where Bond hid the check.
  2. Well wrote, mate! The emotion you feel shines through like a sunbeam in a deep, island lagoon. Just remember, they are never gone so long as we remember them and your poem is a fine remembrance of someone who, I can tell by reading this piece, was a fine sailor and gentleman of fortune! 3. Just finished Martin Cruz Smith's Stalin's Ghost and just started Michael Jeck's The Last Templar.

  9. I DO happen to know that Rumba will have copies of both Raising Black Flags and "A Night at Devil's Tavern" so if you haven't gotten your copy of either OR BOTH of those items, NOW IS YOUR CHANCE!! And I'm willin' to bet that Rumba will autograph either or both, TOO!!
  10. Welcome! Glad to have another cook about. Talk to ye soon! Blackbead PS: Do you like the song that goes with your name?
  11. Rain, tornadoes and the cold are NOT a good mixture. I do like the idea of a festival where everyone can wear their piratical finest - waistcoat, coat and cravat. But the mixture of the three are no good.
  12. I hate hearing that . . . in a few years, I plan on retiring from the life of a wealthy, landed, titled, squire-ish, power-mad barrister and take to the high seas as a private merchant and wandering poet. I'll need all the ports I can find if I'm going to make a go of this and Port Washington was one that I had high hopes for. Well, as goes the motto of the Knights of the Round Table, "Adopt, adapt, and improve." Therefore, by my very will alone, I will bend the course of the universe so that Port Washington becomes not only a certainty but an outrageous success story for festivals the world over to emulate. Here goes. Anyone feeling anything, yet?
  13. Ahoy, Capn' Mac! Welcome to the Pub! Mark Twain, gotta love 'im! Enjoy your wanderings here in port and I'll have a dram o' that Black Strap it ye please! Blackbead
  14. As a vendor, I can never condone what this man has done. As someone who has made mistakes in me own life, I can never deny him the opportunity to ask forgiveness. The real question is always "what of the second chance"? I've been a prosecuting attorney and a defense counsel. Our justice system is based on the ideal that people can make mistakes, pay for it, then start over again. I cannot tell this man what he must do, in any real sense, but if it were me, I would do what so many other criminals have done in the past - I would go away for awhile. Deprive meself of the society of these women and men who are living the life we all desire so heartily for a time and then return with hands ready to do the work of an Able Seaman and not a "Captain." There is no sin that a man cannot recover from except self-destruction. Or self-delusion. But, I think, m'lad, that the issue of "title" be now moot. You've sullied your name. What you do now will determine your fate in this community forever. Seek the wisdom of Solomon a'fore ye take another, single, step. And that's all I have to say about that . . . Blackbead
  15. “We waste so much energy agonizing over the fact that we will never become what we want to be that we only have the strength to become what we have to be and never realize the ultimate glory of becoming what we can be.” John Nagle
