The Traveling Yard 2023 - Information and Sign Ups
Stynky Tudor replied to Duchess's topic in Arts of Pyracy
Excellent, I won't give it a further thought and wait until the very last second to turn my work in (just like grade school). -
Well it's one of those things that's hard to track down. From the Administrative Control Panel, it seemed to be zipping right along without issue. Visiting from different computers and devices didn't show anything on my end either. So keep a weathered eye out and report any issue - type of problem, day, time of day, computer, phone, tablet...

EXCELLENT, Michael is volunteering to do everything! What a relief...😋 All kidding aside, thanks Michael, we'll need whatever help you can provide.

At the end of July, we'll be upgrading the Pub to v4.7.12 Please let us know if you have any issues.

Making a full kit in four months

Excellent bed/mattress making! I use to bring a regular height cot (that I never seemed to sleep on), but I would l lay a piece of canvas over the top to hide the legs and try to make it look like cargo. I recently made myself a sort of bed roll/canvas mattress, I still need to cut some foam for it though - I'll post some pictures once I do. -
OMG, for some raisin I was thinking 5 or 6 people at most - clearly I didn't think this through before volunteering. Agreed! I think this is reasonable. Excellent! We can burn food first thing in the morning (so no one will ever ask us to help cook ever again) - then we can burn powder for the rest of the day! BREAKFAST MENU IDEAS 2 eggs scrambled - fried in butter 2 pieces of bacon potatoes or rice fried with onions in butter & bacon grease fresh bread or store bought tortillas mild cheese blend waffles butter and maple syrup or honey seasonal fresh fruit salad, apples, oranges, grapes, berries yogurt salsa butter

So how many folks are we/me cooking breakfast for?
-
Here's a silly question, are there any toilets close by/outside of the fort?

I volunteer to cook scramble eggs, bacon, rice, quesadillas...I'm kinda lazy on camp trips. Oh, an I will bring the waffle iron. Since I'll likely have my teardrop there, I should have a basic (modern) spatula, knife serving spoon - not period appropriate. I can bring a couple plastic tubs for washing.

I got a report today that navigating the Pub had slowed to a crawl. Is anybody else having loading or navigation issues?

Cool, I've been bouncing back and forth on adding a lining since I started sewing on it. I'll follow your lead, not add a lining and blame anything that goes wrong on you - I really didn't want to add a lining. -

Holy smokes, I'm officially hate you. But you're in good company, I hate Mary Diamond too - she can play all sorts of penny whistle songs and even plays the cello. I look forward to hearing the both of you play! I can sort of play "Star of the County Down" and a mangled version of "Whiskey in a Jar" - need a lot more practice. Currently I'm trying to learn "Drunken Sailor" in time for Massacre Island.

As for solar florescents, I purchased these a few years back for a camping trip. I really like the fire like flicker, but it's been years since I used them, I'm not sure how bright they actually are. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PQG8QBS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

SWEET, Captain Oatmeal in full effect! What songs do you play?

Far from complete (or period accurate for that matter), but this is my mess kit so to speak - at least so far. The knife I own (that isn't pictured) is a similar 18th century english trade knife design that madPete posted a source for. Claimed to be hand forged, the metal utensils were stamped out by a machine. I filed and ground off some of the sharp rough edges and tried to make them more comfortable to hold. I also (tried to) heat treat the tips of the folk with a propane torch and quenching in water - the prongs flexed too much for my liking. https://www.crazycrow.com/camping-cutlery/camp-utensil-set The bowl is from the bottom of a failed gourd water bottle project, I still need to give it a coat of mineral oil - the spoon is made of horn. https://www.crazycrow.com/camping-cutlery/horn-spoon The copper cup is to replace my Georgian period pewter tankard. I'm still in the process of splashing it with vinegar. https://www.crazycrow.com/copper-and-tin-camp-cookware-and-utensils/tin-lined-copper-cups-16-oz The metal plates are actually aluminum single serving pizza plates from the thrift store - figured I could pass them off as pewter maybe.

Very cool, so sad I missed it.

That lantern looks great and weathered. How long ago was it converted to solar? I'm just wondering if newer technology guts and batteries might up the brightness and longevity. Actually I like this idea too, reversed panels, lightly sanded to look like decorated/engraved mica panels - very cool.

Your breeches came out looking great! How well is that linen weave working for you? After a recent (blood pressure) medication reaction, none of my breeches fit. So I'm in the middle of sewing extra large breeches for meself - one pair down! I'm working on a second pair of linen slops. The material seems a bit of a course weave, maybe even shear. TS, are the breeches you made lined or just bare material? -
I love the sound of fiddles. Michael, are you bringing yours to Massacre Island? (A long long time ago in a...) I searched for tin penny whistles and even wooden flutes (piccolo) that could be used as period, but finding something that didn't have some sort of obvious modern tooling was hard to find - granted that was 20+ years or more now. I've got a friend in the Poxy Boggards that plays trombone. I remember he was looking for an earlier instrument that would be applicable (English Renaissance). If I remember correctly, he did find a simple horn instrument of some kind - I think it was still too modern, but it was the closest he could find at the time.
