a few years ago just before i retired from consulting i was heading to the maryland ren faire just below annapolis maryland but on the way i have to drop by a little place in the DC area to deliver a report to the navy ....yeah you guessed it i was in full kit ...needless to say the guards of the DOD have little to no sense of humour .... ..they were sure my clearance credentials were forged ........ but surprisingly the admiral i was to see there thought it was a hoot!!!

hooked a friend up to netzero ...she's doing fine on it she went for the $14.95 highspeed premium plan and gets full antivirus protection along with the isp takes a moment or 2 to connect to webpages and downloads are slower than dsl/broadband but for the internet and casual user it works fine ...best of luck lass as opposed to the $25 a mon. for aol

especially for vendors the flame retatdance cert. is required at a lot of events and if you're doing 30-50 nights a year or more you need the confidence of the lighter fire retadant and sun reisistant fabric

kass before you do all your rinses to get the saffron to run clear do you set the dye first ....my gran always went from the dye pots to a vinegar bath to set the dyes ... it kept the colours from washing back out of the fibers

i have a new vendors type tent with a large fly and a side stoage tent(s) i have finished cutting and pinning the poles ....did some simple stain and wax on the poles but now i'm doing the fun bit the doing all the eye splices for the guy linesi have 20 lines to do bought a 500 ft spool of hemp line will have to candle it and do an eye splice on each section and then once the sliders are put in place do an end splice with a captured bead when the entire project is finsihed i'll show the pics and post the process as well

i got this formula from a friend at a rendezvous to help waterproof your drop-cloth canvas Waterproofing Canvas, Leather * CANVAS: Mix 3 cups soybean oil (available from grocery or health food store) with 1-1/2 cups of turpentine. Paint on and let dry. Reapply after a year or two of hard use or outdoor exposure. Great for tents, awnings, and camping equipment. it is cheaper than the comercial products like campdry or thompson's

i'll see what i can do to bring some cut sapling poles with me if it's requested :)
-
one small problem with that is key west is a highly populated island and doesn't have a lot of spare saplings about ,,,and i'm sure that the cutting of some individuals landscaping would get some pirate thrown into the local jail the preceding was just in my humble opinion

i drynke both i always grind my beans fresh i get 5 lbs of beans a year from an old schoolmate who now owns a plantation on kilamanjaro in kenya which i take to a roaster in reading ,pa ..i also enjoy either kona or blue mountain ... as for tea i have always hated the taste given off by tea bags so i use loose teas always keep earl grey around and a breakfast tea either english or irish white jasmine tea for late evenings with a friend ...but my all-time favourite is a green tea known as GUNPOWDER TEA (go figure!!!) at least 2 pots of coffee a day and several times a week a large pot o' tea the one kind of coffee i can't abide is STARBUCKS it all tastes burnt to my palatte never drynke either beverage cold just never got the taste for them and unsweetened and no milk cream and i drynke coffee (high-test) right up until i lay down to sleep and i sleep like a baby ....but at my age the only draw back is having to get up all night if you know what i mean :)

it was made sometime in the late '50's with a barrel length of 42 inches ...got it from a local fellow in a house auction; he told me that his brother had made it for him..i bought it for $650 in 2000

one thing that was noted earlier was the weight of the swords were evolving but so were the baldricks ....many were no longer heavy leather but embroidered silks ...the courtly swords and small swords favoured by the gentry didn't require the strength needed for earlier swords when they were carried .... so in many cases the fabric used for the baldricks could have been a bit more "slippery" than the leather that held heavier blades ...IMHO (just an observation from my many years of museum studies of period weapons)

i have a rotating twin barreled pennsylvania rifle with twins pans and frizzens but a single hammer ...i have fired it about 75-100 times over the years and have never had a secondary ignition from firing one barrel with the second one loaded ..i first fired it on a range a dozen times or so to make sure i had the process down correctly .....and with the exception of a few flashes in the pan it has fired flawlessly

that's the road in the other direction from our village as opposed to the lush forest i live in now and with this many trees around it's like dying and going to heaven
-
that road goes on like that for about 5-6 miles with only some peat bogs to break up the monotony .....yeah it's lovely until you've lived there for almost 20 years in a house full of weavers and fisherman ...you didn't get to see that there is no running water and the facilities are a small stone shed about 30 feet out the backside of the house and the village has less than 100 people and you're related to most of them in one way or another.... and other than getting drunk frequently there isn't a whole lot of social life ........and having hell fire and brimstone tossed in your face on a daily basis if you don't toe the line and live by the scottish free church rules .... with the family plot just outside the door as well so it's a lovely spot to visit and sight see but living there for a lifetime is pure hell ...at least for me!!!
-
and folks wonder why i moved to the states by the way that's the nicer side of town ....only twice that many houses in the whole village
-
I hear there be pirates hereabouts ~

welcome t' port lad and no offense be meant by that moniker ...since i m'self be in me seventh decade and i still am called lad by those i trust and treasure as had been my grandfather and great grandfather who lived the first to his late 80's and the latter until he passed at 105 (albeit we did refer to him as the "ol' lad") .....so let's hope a bit of rum and a long dose of brine will thicken your hide to the time ahead .... come in and rest your bones in this snug harbour
