  1. BlackJohn - This sounds great. If you can, please pass my email address to David, so he can send details (when they are settled) to me to post in No Quarter Given. <jamaica@noquartergiven.net> Also, he should contact Richard Zacks (author of "The Pirate Hunter", well-documented and interestingly written biography of Cap'n Kidd), to see if Richard would like to be involved. Richard lives in New York, so is somewhat in the vicinity. I have phone number and email for Richard and can pass messages. Thankin' you kindly, --Jamaica Rose

But I do hope you'll be there on the 23rd, for that's when Cap'n Michael and I will be there, and we'd love to enjoy yer music. --Jamaica Rose
  4. Very nice, and very clever. But need to change the title of this topic. It is NOT an HOURglass, but a 28second-glass. LOL. --Jamaica Rose

  7. CHARLESTON EAGERLY AWAITS ARRIVAL OF TALL SHIPS CHARLESTON, SC (January 16, 2009) - This year's Charleston Harbor Fest is shaping up to be the most ambitious and memorable maritime event in the city's history. The event will open June 26, with access to docks and tours of tall ships from around the globe, and will close June 29th when a breath-taking Parade of Sail exits the Charleston harbor. More than twelve ships, ranging in size from 56 to 295 feet have already been confirmed. Many more are expected. These vessels, hailing from France, England, Germany, The Netherlands, Bermuda, and the United States, will dock at the Charleston Maritime Center and the Union Pier Passenger Terminal. The event's focus is on the water, but boasts attractions on land, by air and at sea. Land: wooden boat display, living history exhibit, pirates, family boat building, interactive education village and conservation displays Air: Aerobatic flight demos, helicopter rides, other exciting news to be announced soon. Sea: Tall Ships, free sailing lessons, harbor tours. America's tall ship, the U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle will be on display. It is the only active and operational commissioned sailing vessel in the U.S. maritime services. Captain Chris Sinnet is a South Carolina native and is the Eagle's current Commanding Officer of this vessel that serves as a seagoing classroom for approximately 175 cadets and instructors from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Tickets will be required to gain access to the docks and to board the ships, and VIP packages will be available. There will be unique sailing opportunities onboard the tall ships for adults to cruise from Charleston to Boston at a passenger rate. Additionally, a student program for teens is being developed for sailing on the Spirit of South Carolina from Bermuda to Charleston with partial scholarships available. Bus shuttles will also be available for convenient transport during the festival. To learn more and order tickets, please visit: www.charlestonharborfest.org. Interested in volunteering? Please contact Georgia Nettles at georgia@scmaritime.org or (843) 577-2982. Charleston Harbor Fest is an event of the South Carolina Maritime Foundation. Proceeds from Charleston Harbor Fest support the Spirit of South Carolina, a tall ship offering effective, unique educational opportunities for the students of South Carolina. These programs focus on the history, math, science and literature of South Carolina's water resources, and encourage personal responsibility, contribution to community and stewardship of the environment.
  8. HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY ERROL Current mood:Roguish & Sea Hawkish HAPPY 100th BIRTHDAY ERROL ERROL FLYNN was born on June 20, 1909, in Tasmania, Australia. Today is his 100th BIRTHDAY! Happy 100th Birthday Errol Flynn Plan an Errol Flynn movie marathon. He starred in over 60 movies, so you have a lot to chose from. (I'm going to watch "Captain Blood", "The Sea Hawk", "Against All Flags", and "The Adventures of Don Juan".) You can watch Errol star as Fletcher Christian in his VERY FIRST movie, "In the Wake of the Bounty" (1933) here: http://www.blinkx.com/video/in-the-wake-of...a-XHCreCBikOAZg Interesting Trivia: Errol Flynn was related maternally to one of the Bounty crew members (but probably not Christian himself, as has been reported in some accounts)! For your summer reading, you could get his autobiography "My Wicked, Wicked Ways" (or watch the film version of it). Errol Flynn died an early death on Oct. 14, 1959, of a heart attack, at age 50. Imagine the movies he could have made if he had lived until his 100th birthday. Learn more at his official website: http://cmgww.com/stars/flynn/ There's a nice tribute at: http://www.whatmakesaman.net/wordpress/200...n-his-birthday/ “It's not what they say about you, it's what they whisper” --Errol Flynn “I like my whisky old and my women young.” --Errol Flynn "He was an enchanting creature. I had more fun with Errol than everybody else put together…It was never ending fun." -- David Niven, friend and actor "He was all the heroes in one magnificent, sexy, animal package. I just wish we had someone around today half as good as Flynn." -- Jack L. Warner, studio boss --Jamaica Rose © 2009
  9. Steampunk Pyrates are greatly welcomed at the Pyrate Daze event, Sept. 19-20. The metal-hulled, smoked-stacked QUEEN MARY, rivets and all, will make a great background for Airship Piracy. Saturday will be more focused on historical pyrates, but Sunday will celebrate and honor Airship/Steampunk Pyrates. The headliner band for the Masquerade Ball on Saturday night is Abney Park, who have the song "Airship Pyrates", heard on Bilgemunky Radio. Here's an event that celebrates and welcomes Steampunk Pyracy! Make plans to come, rather than trying to invade events that want to focus more on historical piracy. --Jamaica Rose
  10. Aye! I'll bring Maynard the Monkey over to meet the little PyRats! Come on by my ship and have some fun with the Flyin' Monkey Cannon! I will of course also be performing several times on the main stage. A couple of my new show (not the Pier 39 show) and a couple of cameos with the Pirate Lords act. This year old Jack Spareribs and the Pirates of Harbor Bay are playin' host to the Pirates of Sacramento in our encampment. Come by and say arrr and make some new friends! -Ace AKA: Capt'n Spareribs Thanks for the invite. Though without me there, Michael will have his hands full (the PyRats help where they can though). So he probably can't get away much to actually enjoy the festival. I'll miss seeing your show. Hope it all goes well. --Jamaica Rose
  11. A couple of days ago I learned the pirate portion of Oceanside Harbor Days is NOT happening this year, so one less competing event for Pyrate Daze. --Jamaica Rose Yes, the pirate activites are cancelled, but pirate attendance is not. According to the Chamber of Commerce that is hosting the event, pirate participation is not so much cancelled as curtailed. Last year the event had a pirate theme and this year it doesn't. Consequently, for this year there will not be tall ships nor pirate battles. However, they are still inviting guilds (their words not mine) to come and setup at the event. So, indeed the pirate activity portion is cancelled, but pirate attendance/setup is not, which is a tad self-defeating IMO. I guess they will just have to wait and see how that pans out for them. For more info one can contact the Chamber of Commerce directly at 760-722-1534. Fair winds, -Greydog That sounds rather confusing. Pirates are welcomed, but there is no Pirates Harbor. I haven't heard why they canceled it. But I have heard some talk of a possible tall ship or pirate event in November i Oceanside. I'll post details when I hear something is firmly planned. Meanwhile, we'll be at the Pyrate Daze event Sept. 19-20 It's sounding like it will be quite a lot of fun. --Jamaica Rose

  22. http://fortmacarthur.tripod.com/ July 11th-12th, 2009: 10th Anniversary of Old Fort MacArthur Days San Pedro, CALIFORNIA First Multicultural & Living History Event presented west of the Mississippi River and in the State of California. Annual artillery show and fundraiser that supports the Fort MacArthur Museum. The event is held on the weekend following the Fourth of July holiday. Various military organizations and groups (from ancient Roman Legionnaires to the Modern era) support the event. All group encampments are focused on accurately presenting life as it was in the past. The museum is located in Angels Gate Park, 3601 South Gaffey Street, in the historic harbor city of San Pedro, California. Old Fort MacArthur Days is a blank fire event. Many historical reenactment groups will be firing various weapons during the course of the event, and there will be a massed fire by cannons at the end of the day. Two groups of privateers will be on hand, the Rogue Privateers, and the Port Royal Privateers. The Rogue Privateers will raid for items and then auction them off to benefit the museum. Activities and educational content are presented, so we can always find something to do for everyone! Anyone interested in participating at the event with the Rogue Privateers contact Dan McGrew, aka Duncan MacGregor, at: DMBOTC@aol.com
  23. There will be lots of buccaneers and rovers at the Old Fort MacArthur Days this year. Both the Rogue Privateers and the Port Royal Privateers will be there setting up camp. Cap'n Michael, myself, and our furry crew will be setting up with the Rogue Privateers (in fact, Cap'n Michael is the Captain for the event). We'll be encamped next to the Winged Hussars, so shouldn't be hard to find. The Rogue Privateers will have plenty of artillery present. So lots of excitement. For the youngun's we'll have a spar set up for them to explore, and feel what it was like to climb out on the yard, on the footropes, and reef the sail. We'll also have period games for young and old to try their hand at. And lots of critters (goats, chickens, and our ship's rats). We'll be raiding other sutlers (some surprises planned), and then auctioning off what plunder we gather, all to benefit the Old Fort MacArthur Museum. This year, there is some construction in the area, so less parking lots then usual. If you plan to come, it'll be a good idea to arrive early so you don't have to walk from miles away. Carpool if possible. This is not an event where spectators come in garb, but if you'd like to encamp with the Rogue Privateers and hang out with the sea rovers with a historically accurate emphasis, there is still time to sign the articles. Just send Dan, aka Duncan MacGregor, a signal at: DMBOTC@aol.com --Jamaica Rose

Follow along as Vile and Josephine try to outwit both the military and the pirates to be together. Come and see how the new Governor gets added to the struggles as he too has an eye for Josephine! Who will win Josephine's fair hand and who will end up with the gold? And if that wasn't enough...
