  1. I haven't looked at it either but I think you mean "Pirate Ship, 1660-1730" by Angus Konstom Osprey Pub. Co. ISBN 184176473. The one review on Amazon.com siad it was disappointing but still gave it 3 stars. Jamaica Rose have you seen a review copy yet?
  2. Sure I'm game! Just let me know how I may be of assistance. :)
  3. Odd this subject has come up. A friend asked me where she could get a boarding axe. Does anyone know?
  4. When I typed my real full name I got Capt. Eye Gouger. When I typed my Pirate name I got Neck Snapper Nancy. Which do you think fits?
  5. I see. There were baskethilt braodswords in the 1660s, weren't there? He's also in 18th c. dress not 17th c. dress.
  6. On an odd note I just received an invoice for a herbaruim in Brazil called Herbario "Barbosa Rodrigues" (quotation marks theirs) Funny he didn't look Portugues!
  7. Corsair If you find the Mariner's Mirror please let me know which one it is so I can photocopy it for myself from the Huntington copy. Thanks
  8. Check out the great prints of famous pirates and other goodies can be found at the National Maritime Museum website www.nmm.org.uk Look under *Reproductions* then *Pirates*. There is Anne Bonney & Blackbeard. Capt. Morgan and Barbary corairs. There are also maritime books and nautical knickacks. Have fun!
  9. While not strictly piratical nonetheless let's remember that pirates were sailors and that as such knowledge of all things maritime would behoove everyone one of us. This book just came into the library and it seemed a good one to read for all of us. "To Harness the Wind: A Short History of the Development of Sails" by Leo Block Naval Institute press, 2003 ISBN 1557502099 Cover the History of sails from the first depiction of one (Egyptian vase 6000 B.C.E,) to modern racing sails. The book also touches on Chinese & South Pacific sails. I am going to have it charged out to me after it's cataloged. Looks like a interesting read.
  10. Capt. Gary Just so you should know Mario (a freind of mine) was one of those fight trainers who made less money than the extras. He even spoke lines in a few scenes (yelling orders in French) and I don't think got any extra pay for that! Not even eligable for a SAG card! I hope you don't mind my speaking up Mario. But if I can't speak up for a friend (that goes for you too Gary) what can I do?
  11. Maybe she's been spending too much time doing maritime research? That gal needs to get out a bit more!
  12. Reminds me of the looped Afghan coins I've sewn onto my tribal dance belt. Except those aren't Afghan coins. Maybe something from the Atosha?
  13. I sent the link to a freind of mine who lives in Wellington NZ. She said it might be apart of the International Arts Festival? Anyway she's going to keep her eyes peeled for it. She says it sounds like a hoot! I think it does too. Thanks
  14. I'm not. If you knew the things I know! Friends with friends on the inside. :) Unfortunately it too long a story to get into online. I have carpal tunnel in my right wrist and it'd take me days to type. I am surprised it didn't come sooner. Not only should we support the NoCal Pirate Faire but the Hearts of the Forest Faire (Run by Kevin Patterson) as well.
  15. Manor House was Edwardian. The next one (if it isn't already finished) will be Regency House Party.
  16. You forgot the ulitmate evil mother from hell in "The Manchurian Candidate"
  17. To name a few.... Artemisia of Halicarnassus Maureen O'Hara (who is alive & well & living in the Caribbean) Granuaile N'Malley aka Grace O'Malley Segourney Weaver Anne Bonney Mary Read Chang I Sao Thelma & Louise Mother Rackett Iron Bess
  18. Therefore what is the differnce between a pilot and a sailing master?
  19. That fine fellow would be Jerry Reyes aka Francisco de Bratejna (I don't think I spelled that right). He is a fellow Port Royal Privateer to Iron Bess and meself.
  20. Wonderful Corsair! I especially love the beaking up card. :)
  21. It's on a CD called "Lager Than Life" by the Poxy Boggards. Do a web search I'm sure you could find a copy. :) Unless you already have a copy then play El Pirata!
  22. I know Phyllis ( and yeah I know all about clan Patterson ;-) ) The Heart of the Forest faire down here is marvelous. It's held near Santa Barbara and is more like the old Faire in Agoura. Lots of trees and easy going atmosphere etc. . They didn't have it this year Phyllis said because her son Kevin (who is really running things) wanted to concentrate on the northern faire and the Dickens Faire in December. It will be back in Santa Barbara next year running against Southern Faire. It may not be a problem though for HoF because I think more people with money would rather head up to Santa Barbara that out to the hellish heat of San Bernardino (where I am temporarily living). So it may work out for them. I also know that REC (Reniassance Entertainment Corp.) who runs both Northern & Southern Faires (among others) has pissed off many a vendor, entertainer etc. and quiet a few would like to work for Kevin and HoF instead. Enough about that. I also worked at the Agoura site and was part of the pirate group there St. Dymphna's Guild aka The Sea Dogs. I am told for some reason they got kicked out (barfed on the queen?) of the REC faires and pirates are no longer allowed as participants (saying pirates weren't period!) . So that's why you don't see pirates at those venues. Definately go to Ojai next year!
