Ceberus may have been the name of a Scottish prison transport ship, but its origins is Greek. It's the name of the three headed dog that gaurds the underworld in ancient Greek myhtology. Long Cerebus?

I agree with Salem Bob & Wartooth. Be leery of articles that don't site sources and primary sources at that. Sodomy & the Pirate Tradition is full of supposition. Some years back there was a scholar here who was researching homosexuality and pirates. He gave a brown bag talk on it. All the while he was talking had to supress a giggle couse all I could think about was Capt Ned and the Raging Queen from SNL. John Beluchi in a hot pink and lime green satin pirate outfit! His sepculation was that the vast majority of pirates were gay. Personally think it was a mixture of wishful thinking and his fantasy life. He later published his research as Rum, sodomy, and the lash : piracy, sexuality, and masculine identity [aka How I Spent My Weekend] / Hans Turley. There were gay pirates and some did form lasting unions. I have never heard of the term matelots before. Great consort yes in Captian Kidd and the War Against the Pirates. It was used to refer to the partner of Capt. Culliford who was the man who was the bane of Kidd's existance. Took off with half his crew. :) There is evidence that pirates were more tolerent of homosexual behavior but then pirates were tolreent about any non-mainstream behavior or lifestyle. They were afterall pirates! :)

I was going through some of favorites list in IE to see if there were any that were gone or outdated. I came across this one and it's still good!: http://www.boat-links.com/boatlink.html It's called The Mother of All Maritime Links or John's Nautical Links List. Everything from Amatuer Boat Building & Repair to that old favorite Miscellaneous. There is even Pirates. :) Have fun!

Well since it's a long boat why not something like Long Angus or Long Liam?

Lee was also great in The Wicker Man. A part that was written for him. One of my favorite films.
-
Pay on naval ship was pretty low. On pirare ships typically 1 1/2 shares.
-
You mean Christopher Lee of course not Burt Lancaster. Can't imagine Burt with fangs!

I am one of those people who has yet to find her sea legs. A trick Philastina de Morte taught me is a half hour before who go on board take a bonnie. The about a half an hour out take another. It reduces the droziness factor. It worked fine for me during tall ship battles. Day after day I guess just spread it out and cut back gradually to see if you adapted or not. Also ginger beer or good quality ginger ale works wonders. -
The DVD doesn't much in the way of special features. There's just a few pages discussing Burt Lancaster and Nic Cavert and that's it. Too bad.
-
Not much that I could see. I haven't had a chance to go through the special features yet.

(Anyone have any other pirate-y films starring O'Hara to recommend, BTW? While we're on the subject. :) I'd love to see more.) Against All Flags, Spanish Main, At Swords Point (not a pirate film but a good swashbuckler nonetheless). She was (maybe still is) one heck of a swordswoman :)

I see on the calender it's Missee Lee's natal day. She's a venurable 93. :) Happy Birthday Missee Lee! You maybe the oldest member of the Pub but you're the youngest of heart. Oh the tales you could tell! Three huzzah! and a glass of rum to Missee Lee!

I was watching the newly released DVD of Crimson Pirate last night when I heard the voice of Saurman himself. Low and behold it was Christopher Lee! Young and handsome. A samll role but he stands out. Did you know he's made over 200 films? Would would have thunk it. And I thought I was just going to enjoy Burt Lancaster swinging around shirtless through alot of the movie.
-
Well that explains it then. Fingers crossed on that note. :)
-
Aye! Happy Birthday Touring Gentleman! I raise a glass to yea and offer you a drink!

It would be great but not bloody likely. :) Still ...

Maureen O'Hara was on Good Morning America today speaking about her autobigraphy "Tis Herself". Here's a chapter from it.: http://abcnews.go.com/sections/GMA/Books/G..._excerpt-1.html Now if anyone belongs in POTC 2 it 's Herself (Hmm she seems to have the same nick name as Bess ) . I'd love to see her in just one more pirate movie! :)

Bought it at the California International Antiquarian Book Faire a few years back. I can't remember which dealer it was. I was working for one of the dealers so I got a discount on it. Try www.bookfinder.com or www.abe.com and you maybe will find a copy.

I know Pare. I have a reprint packed away of his collected works.

People like Billy Scudder, Marc Mangano, David Springhorn and others. The link I posted has more information. Makes you wish you could get a ticket out here doesn't Zorg? Unfortunately This year I have Spring Equinox with the coven and my nephew's formal birthday party (his real birthday is this Saturday up the kiddie fest is March 20) so I can't go this year. BTW when I was moving I got a call from my then soon to be former roomamate Jane and she said "Chris Springhorn is at Ontario Mills and wants to know if you need help" Guess how I answered? So Chris kindly took some boxes down for me. She such a nice person. :)
