  1. I agree with RumbaRue, forget the bamboo. What you want is landscaping poles used to stake large trees. These poles are made from hardwood and come in very long lengths. You simply cut the pole to the desired length. These can be had at any Home Improvement store along with the canvas for the sides and roof. Scroll down to lodge poles Don't reinvent the wheel. There is period equipment all around you, you just have to look at with a different set of eyes. Boats is one of the best encampment designers around and RumbaRue is also a great resource for what to use for encampments. Rumba, in your opinion, besides painters canvas, landscaping poles, and dowels, can you think of anything else that would be needed for the structure only?
  2. Mad Matt, Get off yer bloomin arse and get yerself over to the coast for yer own looksee. There be plenty of tallships to have a look at. The Surprise, the Spirit of Dana Point, the Pilgrim, the Lynx, the Exy Johnson and the Lady Washington to name just a few. Take the plunge, mate, and feel the salty air.
  3. Rosie's got a boyfriend! Do they share a cage? Perhaps you'll wake up one morning to a nest with an egg.
  4. Sounds like a grand time to be had on the Great Lakes this summer. Hoping to get up to Green Bay for the Tallships myself to see the show. Congrats on the new guns.
  5. Not sure yet. Me mate won't give me his calendar until closer to that time, bloody pirate. As it is, he's been gone almost every week this month.
  6. I can tell you closer to March what days I be available. The faire be close but it falls right AFTER spring break for the kiddies. I may have to bring a cabin boy with me.
  7. Okay pirates, here's the plan for President's weekend. The Estrella War begins that Wednesday, Feb. 15. Day passes are $20.00 (cash only) with parking pass of $20 ifn ye want to park close, otherwise parking is FREE OFFSITE with shuttle to event. Estrella War Sandy Fraser (aka Jack2), Cutthroat Red Ruby the Gimp and I are planning on raiding the merchants at this fine event on Friday, Feb. 17. Saturday, Sunday and Monday are planned for the Az Ren Faire. Sunday night is a planned party at my house ifn' enough RSVP. PM me if ye need crash space/camping space. I don't live close to either venue, but kinda of in the middle. So what say you?
  8. Well, I've got an old tufted oriental rug 12x12 available. It has a small round hole to one side of it and little chewed on one corner. It be 100% wool with a canvas backing. I used it for the Pappas Charity event encampment. It looked fabulous. Oh, and Ruby doesn't sit on a stool either. Not to create a mutiny, but making people purchase a particular type of of seating be a bit much. We are seasoned pirates here and we know what "period looking" seats we prefer. I say let pirates provider their own seats for sitting. If you want a particular one used for reading to the kiddies, go ahead and try the "stool" out for yourself with 20-25 kiddies. Ye will see that those stools only be good for shoeing horses and yes, I already own one. I use it for working on me boat's hull wilst it's on its trailer. All them patch jobs.
  9. Mad Matt, Beat you! Nananana
  10. Rum, where's the rum gone? Funeral, I love funerals, perhaps an Irish wake as well. Nah, it be a British funeral, not an Irish one. Nelson?
  11. Royaliste, Are you going to be in the waters in that area during this time?

  14. Estate (best kind of yard sale!)
  15. That bamboo fencing will not last being unrolled and rolled up constantly. The wire used to string them together is of the cheapest kind. Most encampments use fabric to string between poles as it is easier to attach and pack up and lasts a longer. I believe most use painters canvas or burlap to string between the posts. If'n yer still planning to come out for President's weekend. Perhaps we can take a run to Estrella War. They encampments look luxurious using period equipment. The crew of Barking Spyder especially does a nice job.
