Aye, tis just an idea at this point, but I would love to work something out, I did do a scetch of a map of a village, with a small fort, the idea being that some pirates have set up a camp near the shore to carreen and resupply their ship and spend their plunder in the town, with the garrison and governor being wary. each passing year would have the plot revolve around either historical pirates or fictional pirates from classics like Treasure Island. I've also considerd getting the USS Niagra to take part since it's just a short voyage away in Erie Pennsilvania. But it's sadly only an idea at this point. I am on good terms with the owner of a local renfaire, maybe he could give me a few pointers.

If ya need anything such as advice on developing a character, or advice on where to go for accoutrements, just ask, There are a lot of venders online and at festivals that sell everything you'd need to build a costume, besides craft stores and places where you can get embellishments, I have a whole list of 'em.

Sea shanties of the early 1700s?
Dread Pyrate Greyhound replied to Billy Leech's topic in Music & Shanties
My personal Favorite ballade is ''Captain Ward" There are several versions The origonal was written by Child and registered around 1680. Essentually it relates the story of a battle between a King's ship and a pirate named Captain Ward. In some versions he writes a letter to the King asking for pardon for him and his men, in others he plunders a ship and "Bids them tell the King'' but the king commisions a man'o'war to be built called the Rainbow or sometimes Royale Rainbow which hunts him down and after as running battle the Rainbow finds it cannont defeat Ward who says "go hom go home' cries captain ward 'And tell your king for me, if he reigns king all on the land than I am king of sea" Here is a site with lyrics and info: http://www.contemplator.com/sea/ward.html -
Yeah, It could be a song of sorts.

Your Leg also puts you in a unique position of having the option to portray the literary Classic Long John Silver. You rarely see a Long John Silver because not many pirate enthusiasts are missing a leg. I knew of only one, his name was Captain Shark the pirate king, rest his soul, and he sometimes dressed as Ol' Long John at gigs for schools.

A poem I wrote in regard to the Deep connection we all feel to the Age of Pyrates A phenoninon I refer to as possessing 'The Pyrate's Soul' I was born back in 92 Of cares and preocupations I had few But of one thing I was sure of most, To a Pyrate's Soul my body was host So sing with me, Let your spirit Free And Let the pirate soul fly We pirates shall ne'er die So how do know a Pyrate's Soul is taken host in thee? When out to sea thou shalt ne'er feel more free! Of all the things ye love me mate, A pirate could ne'er e'er hate So sing with me, Let your spirit Free And Let the pirate soul fly We pirates shall ne'er die When music plays, tis the hornpipe, you hear You dance a jig and give a cheer When you order a drink, It's rum or grog 'WHAT DIARY!? That's me bleedin' Captain's Log!' So sing with me, Let your spirit Free And Let the pirate soul fly We pirates shall ne'er die All these things you know and do, You were born a pirate ye know Tis True, Many years ago, you plundered the seas and now again, We have the Pyrate's soul my friend So sing with me, Let your spirit Free And Let the pirate soul fly We pirates shall ne'er die Many years have gone and past, But the Age of pirates will everlast So Long as there live them with a Pirate's Soul, The Great Age of Pyrates will never be O'er So sing with me, Let your spirit Free And Let the pirate soul fly We pirates shall ne'er die

I'll definatly have to look into working something out for a portrait. First I have to update my costume though. I've painted some pictures too. One of a sea battle between a pyrate frigate, and a merchant galleon, another of a buccaneer captain.

I just finished downloading Pirates of the Burning Sea last night, only to find the computer's graphics card is not powerful enough to run the game and so I didn't get to play it!

The first thing ye want to decide is How accurate you want to be. The next is when and where you're active as a pirate, the Caribbean in mid 1600s Madagascar waters in the late 1600s or the Caribbean in early 1700s. Once you have decided that, you've got your guidlines for accoutrements, ship class, pirate haven and depending on historical events and your own preference, backstory and adventures. Me for example, I got to see the best parts out of the Golden Age. I began my carreer on a buccaneer out of Jamaica and Tortuga in the 1660s, then chased down the indiamen and Mogul treasure ships in the 1670s, and finished up with the Pyrate Round between the Indian ocean and Caribbean in the 1680s. I'm an amature scholer when it comes to this, as I'm sure many other members of the forum are, so we'll help ye out mate.

Period Correct Cups, Plates, Tankards and Eating Stuff
Dread Pyrate Greyhound replied to Rats's topic in Captain Twill
There were also tankards with glass bottoms so the wary drinker could keep an eye on the tavern suroundings, even when drinking, in case a foe or anything unsavery approached. My mom has a bunch of those in her basement from when we were on a local Medieval Faire's cast -
I watched that video, there's Also a music video of That song with footage from the movie Cutthroat Island, which only serves to make the song even cooler, here take a look mates:
