  1. I do too Tom, but if I didn't, I'm sure I'd backslide.
  2. No, instead, I'll give you words of advice from a wise fellow... When in the arena, Yield not to an aggressor. When outside the arena, Affirm compassion. This world and this society are competitive. Tao uses the metaphor of the warrior to meet that competition. Warriors never yield to their opponents. They may sidestep, but they do not give way. Whether you are a lawyer, police officer, fire fighter, doctor, businessperson, athlete, or any one of numerous other professions, you compete against either other people or natural forces. But there is a right way and a wrong way to compete. Avoid anger and greed. Use concentration and awareness. Coincidentally, concentration and awareness are also necessary for spirituality. That is why the follower of Tao incorporates the way of the warrior into training. The warrior and the sage both seek to transcend emotion and petty thinking, to perfect themselves, and to live lives of the deepest truth. But when outside the arena, do not forget to be kind. Leave behind competitive aggression. You must still have awareness, concentration, and reflex, but the expression will be different. Your compassion must not falter. That is why the combination of the way of the warrior with the way of Tao is the ultimate symbol of versatility. Such a follower of Tao commands the extremes of the universe.
  3. The scuttlebutt is our little red cat loves toast. Maybe she needs one of these? Toast's up!
  4. I suspect if someone wanted to they could. Warping wood isn't all that difficult. A previous sea cheast thread: http://pyracy.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=5771
  5. hey, where'd this pine bark come from?!?!?! Cinnamon sugar bagel with honey butter...
  6. ^ a time machine < realizes that the 13 hour clock would just give him an extra hour of doing "other" stuff V Tesla or Edison, which do you prefer?
  7. Hey, as Ferris Bueller once said, "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it."
  8. Don't do it. I for one am proud to have you as a fellow moderator!
  9. Did I mention I really like the paper this mag is printed on? I'm very much impressed with that aspect of it. It has very nice finger feel.
  10. I always figured Jack had a secret stash of hot pirate chick mags!!! Jack... you dog you!
  11. This first time someone had to piece together a lid because it was less than the price of a single board? Remember. Here, in the colonial era, all the huge trees had yet to be felled. The floorboards in the oldest house in Cape Cod are immense!
  12. You think so? I figured I was the antithesis of their target audience. I guess I could be wrong. Do their hot pirate chicks ever get naked? As for cool... Cool! I didn't realize that! As for hippies... well... uhhh... cool! (Blackjohn, not a hippie, but very much influenced by them, and thinks the long-haired hippie chick look was the best look of the second half of the 20thC.)
  13. People who are into the hollywood version of pirates. I figure from the cover it is very plain. And people who are pirate neophytes. And those who are into the renn scene and are tired of fairies and such. I am obviously not part of their target audience. Pardon the pun, but I don't have issues with that. They do what they do, that is, give the renn crowd a glitzy mag that caters to their needs. I do what I do, that is, give away stuff I find cool to people who also think it is cool, and who give cool stuff away to others in return.
  14. I've give my opinion if I had a copy of issue 3. Since I don't, all I can really say is, if it is similar to issues 1 and 2, it's not my cup of tea. Of course, this should come as no surprise, since I'm not part of their target audience.
  15. ^ ... .... ...... ......... ................ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I'll think of one sooner or later) < Has at least four different good luck charms. V still hold hands with the one you love?
  16. A pleasure, sir! And I admire your ability to mix things up! We'll see this thing through to the end of the year!!! And beyond!
  17. Annapolis... reminds me of a story... a story from when there was a room for a sense of humor. My captain in the First Maryland Regiment, a Naval Academy graduate, was leading us in the Fourth of July parade in Annapolis. As we approached the gate to the Academy he turns to me and he says, "back when I was a midshipman I always dreamed about coming back here one day and..." Yes, he ordered us to fire a volley at the gate guard. They seemed mildly amused. Of course, he was thrilled beyond belief. Actually, there's a better part to that story... but this one and the one I am thinking of are more "reenacting stories" than "being out of place in your kit" stories. And neither are pirate stories, so I will leave it at that.
  18. Years ago, while dressed in complete pirate kit, I strolled into the neighborhood liquor store. My choice of sword at the time was a very long Polish karabela (a type of cavalry sabre). The guys who ran the store were sikhs. I wondered what their take would be, a guy wearing a sword coming into their store. Knowing something about the Five Ks I figured they'd have a completely different outlook than dude who runs the other liqour store. And I was right. They thought it was really cool. After some smiles and nods the one fellow said to me, "in my village, every man wore a sword just like that."
  19. That's funny. I rewrote that at least twice, taking out the "they are like what, a million calories" part. C'mon over Jacky, and I'll make you a hot buttered rum with apple cider and a cinnamon stick.
  20. I saw a couple nice period cutlasses this weekend. Snapped a few shots when the guard walked out of the room. Shame on me. http://www.piratebrethren.com/articles/cut...utlasspics.html
  21. the smell of cinnabons... I could stand there in front of the cinnabon shop for hours just taking in that wonderful smell...
  22. Stay away from the jetblue crowd... they are ready to mutiny!
  23. Good call. I'd say consistent is very important, in fact, more important than tough. I only say tough because from experience I know my two boys be will push the limits.
  24. an A. Vogel Soothing Pine Cough Drop. Yes, I love the great taste of pine. The only thing I've had that tastes more like a pine tree is spruce beer!!!
