I am wondering what the hell 1117 is carrying - looks like a giant French Tickler or something....
It's obviously a giant shoe horn... for whom I don't know... maybe Gulliver

looking good! if you dont mind, whats the source on the pic (and iff yee have any oootthheerreess on earlier sailors to share lololol......)
I'm not sure about the source... I may have seen it before but you're gonna have to ask Dana... he supplied the pic

Custom Rennaisance era sailors breeches for Ivan Henry based on the period drawing below.
Navy linen with white wool tape embelishments. Adjustable waist and rough carved wodden buttons for the fly. The matching jerkin is in the works.
-
Any documentation on the knitted coif? I wear a linen one under my statute cap, but I've never seen reference to a knitted one.
Hawkyns
Nope sorry... just common sense... if they made them of linen... they probably knitted them of wool.
Some things were so common they wouldn't be documented.
I'm not worried though... my kit will most likely be the most PC kit at this faire.

Head to your local redezvous... sure to be a mountain man or two who provide gun accessories
-
Here are some updated photos of the ren era pirate kit... did some more research and found that common sailors wouldn't have had fancy jerkins and the like, yet they would have a tunic/shirt_like doublet
so...
New linen commoner's doublet
Open kneed breeches/slops
commoners knitted cap (akin to the linen sort seen in many period impressions)
Breeches are similar to venetians and are not hand finshed since the will be covered by the doublet. They have a drawstring waist and a single button fly closure for convenience
The doublet is hand finished with hemp cord and a single abalone button on the collar

Yes sir they love pirates at Rendezvous and I always have a blast hanging out with the crusty mountain men. However, they are very serious about period correctness. Pirates and mountain men had a closer relationship than most would think... many a pirate's booty ended up in trade channels I'm sure.... floating up the Mississippi.

I can not thank you all enough for the kind words.... and business.... all the clothing listed here has sold, but I am always taking new orders.

A masterpiece

The most common question I got was: "what are you?"
Most of the comments I got were about wearing the thrumb cap..... "are you having a bad hair day?"
None of the rennies even knew what I was....
OH well......
I love thrum caps - they always get strange reactions. Mine is too hot to wear in the sun but I usually have it handy for rainy days.
Mark
This is exactly my point... I want people to ask what I'm wearing so I can school 'em. Working on a thum cap as we speak
Anyone Going to queen bess?

Damn you get all the good festivals over there. Been doing some research into this period all month. Just completed a Queen Elizabeth / Francis Walsingham based letter of marque too.
Yeah well I wish more people were into Elizabethan piracy,,, the Renn faire community could use a healthy dose of PC maritime representation. Currently it's hardly measurable.
