  1. Just got these on Monday, Officially Licensed they have the Certificate of Authenticity. Weighs just under 9 lbs, very nice casting. Lotsa detail, photo really doesn't do it justice. $50.00 + shipping, PM me for the details. Jim
  2. For those of you that want to see things "outside the fort", it can be a fun and SCARY place. Fun Fishing on a charter boat Going to famous bars and seeing Elvis and sunset at Mallory Square Scary Giant Transvestites! and seeing Elvis So there are things outside the fort, just be very careful!
  3. Well Cap'n I haven't tried throwin' 'em, wait ........ just beaned the boss, ......... an' now she's mad as hell!! They may be a bit small but they'll raise a knot on yer noggin'!! But serially, beaned 'er agin' I don't know what you'd be lookin' for in that respect. (Half expected a ? like to come from Diosa ) Let me know what yer wantin' an' I'll do my best. Jim By the by, are the measures right?
  4. OK they're not cheesy, way too much cellulose fiber, I wouldn't recommend eatin' one, might chip a tooth. I'd feel kinda squeamish tellin ya wot they're doin' on the girls' thread with 'em. But.. if you'll tell me what size rope you'd have on yer ship I can make ya one or more that would be correct for your application. I say that because I think these might be a little small (diameter wise) based on some good info I came into possesion of this weekend. I'll be runnin' the lathe next week after we get back from Ft Desoto this comin' weekend and I'll make what ya want and send it out to ya. PM me with the particulars and we'll go from there. Jim
  5. I'm CW infantry centric in my leather and all the pics in Echoes of Glory, and stuff you see in photos, is all the copper rivets. As I've gotten deeper into the intricacies I've discovered that things were mostly sewn before 1860 ish. by the end of the war rivets were far more common and in some apps they were no longer sewn but were riveted exclusively. The rivets make the joint about 3X stronger, or so I've been told. This is 1860 Naval Cutlass Scabbard that I did that's all rivets I think I'm gonna stick to hand sewing for now, until as Mike says, we get more definitive info. What's right or wrong, I doubt if we can be terribly wrong either way. I'm 'bout ready to start sewing my belt up after dinner. Jim
  6. Thanks, I picked up a couple of the 1 3/4" buckles from the other authentic sutler at PiP, I'm sad to say I don't remember his name. It must be a trick of the angle on the page because I come with about a 1/4" difference in strap widths. It's OK, I'm almost ready to assemble. Just have to make the frog now. I'm almost out of rivets, so I'll probably have to sew it, hate when that happens! It's a prototype we'll see how it comes out and then I'll decide if it's going into production. Jim
  7. Funny you should be running this right now, I'm in the middle of copying yours... (sincerest form of flattery) and I'm extrapolating dimensions based on the photo you posted of your belt, and referring to the photo I took at PiP. What a pain in the backside!! Jim Check the top of the page on blackjohn post, I think the book is Firearms in Colonial America .... it's at the top of the page. I must confess I bookmarkes it several months ago.
  8. if the last couple posts on the girls' thread are any indicator, they either don't need us, or they're gettin' lonesome.
  9. Dear Lord forgive me ..... But I can't resist a "layed an egg" crack... (darn)
  10. I red too far ( trips trying to back outta here fast) Crap, now I'm gonna feel squirmy an' such when I'm turnin' them pins on the lathe! Oh wait, the capitalist in me see's a new market ...... dare I say it? ...... Oh, Crap, I dare ...... openin' up Sorry, sometimes I blurt out what's on my mind
  11. I got some good dimension for ropes from one of the Key West sailing ships this weekend, so I'll be able to make something that will actually be right!!
  12. Just found these pictures and had to post them do you see the civil war soldier in this one? Took these in the infirmary had to be a ghostie in there .... I think Cap'n Spike's, Boney's would all be spinnin' in their watery graves if they knew there grandsons were fightin' fer the "Crown"..... as it were!! Can you see the uncanny resemblance?!?
  13. I just finished this "snapsack" I may have gone too far back in time as it seems to be documented to the early 1600's, the photos didn't seem to indicate any buttonholes for a "drawstring" and seems to be twisted like a tootsie roll wrapper and tied off and then tied to Tumpline. I looked at a fair number of ECW pics and found several variations on the theme, but they seem to a bit more "modern" with drawstrings and integral straps. It'll hold a ton of stuff and the 3" wide strap seem very comfortable, probably appropriate for the time of Searles' Raid. Jim
  14. That's not an argument ..... it's merely contradiction
  15. As stated before ..... never in the same place at the same time.
  16. Aye, What Greydog said. When In N'Awlins don't fergit Cafe' Dumond for Cafe' au lait and beignets fer breakfast. A sloppy roast beef and gravy po' boy fer lunch, a muffaletta for a snack in between and then the crabs fer dinner! Add later some Bananas Foster for a kick ass dessert. Damn I'm gettin' hungry, (baby, fire up the fryer and get out the beignet mix! Brew up some coffee and steam the milk!) one things fer sure in The Big Easy they don't "Eat to Live" they "Live to Eat" Sometimes I do miss the City that Care Forgot. "Bon Temps Roulle" Jim
  17. "The formula up here on the coast of Maine is half boiled linseed oil, to half turpentine to thin it out and make it penetrate, with a capful of Japan drier. Straight linseed tends to stay gummy too long." from Crudbeard's post #15 I just mixed up some o' that to finish a set o' apostles an' it's workin' out fine. Looks great, I put the 1st coat on bout 30 mins. ago an' it's durn near dry a'ready. Gonna give it 'bout a hour an do it agin'. Thanks for the tip Crudbeard After further reading, I would like to recommend a Hoppes product, it's a solvent soaked cleaning cloth and it makes very short work of polishin' brass! Jim
  18. Lady Diamond, If there are any left not spoken for PM me and I'll take them! Hope you had a good time in Chicago. Jim
  19. Aye an' I hope your bubos are getting better. Don't forget to fill yer pockets with posies so's ya won't be smellin' so vile. Ya oughta be picklin' yerself in rum it'll make ya not care how bad ya feel, an it might make you sterile! I mean sterilize ya ..... kill the vermin! Jim
  20. I'm takin a lunch break, I'll get back on them in a couple minutes Cap'n. Did ya like the shot of your bandolier I sent you? Jim
  21. Thank you for the compliment. Haven't decided yet, not more than $25.00, I'll probably make a belt frog to go with it, resembling an axe frog. Jim
  22. Sounds like ever'ones wishin' ye a happy b'day early. Guess I'll save it fer tommorra then. Maybe I'll even tell ya 'bout that stringin' up o' the 'postles. But ya gotta axe, then I'll tells ya. Hope yer healin' up OK after the whuppin' ye took from yer spouse! Awwww, what the 'ell HAPPY BIRTHDAY Mike, or Mickey or Natahaniel or whatever ye'r callin yeself. Jim
  23. Just took these off the lathe. They'll do double duty as a shipboard tool or another weapon in a pinch. The longer one is 13" long and goes from 7/8" tapering down to 3/4" The shorter one is about 12" long and tapers form 3/4" to about 5/8" These can be made to your specs, would need to know the largest diameter rope on your ship.
  24. Some new buttons for the shot bag are on the way.
  25. I'll be keepin my eye out for some other patterns in the near future
