  1. I am a big fan of the hornblower series from a&e-it gives you all the nautical action you can handle and in my opinion the british navy taking prizes is good privateer action. don't forget; cutthroat island & captain blood
  2. I think that a pirate is a pirate,no matter what ya call em.you can give them different names til yer blue in the face, but they all do the same thing=prey on whoever they can get away with and keep their belongings for themselves. to go off topic/time period for a minute,in my opinion the napoleonic british navy practice of taking prizes is absolutely piracy. Capt Weaver
  3. can you tell us the circumstances which have led you to this position? she's a right pretty girl, even if she has a man's name while I'm on the subject, who is she named for? don't recall ever hearing the name before. Capt Weaver

Ramsay, Jr. The Journal of Jean Laffite: The Privateer-Patriot's Own Story by John Andrechyne Lafitte Laffite of Louisiana by Mary Devereux

  7. being too long in the king's service,I'm sorry to say that I don't speak yer prirate lingo too well as yet...but their may be hope hope for me. I am one of those sca re enacters who spent far too much time on dry land and am now lookin for a ship to commandeer after gettin a good taste o the sea.I live in the kingdom of An Tir and we have a thriving group of pirates and rogues who call this port home as well as a good number of merchant ships to plunder and not a king's ship in site fair winds and full mugs, Capt Weaver
  8. one of my favorites is ; SHE CAPTAINS by Joan Druett it is a great read if ya like the historical and covers pirates, captains and seamen's wives. other good books are; WOMEN PIRATES by Ulrike Klausmann, THE PIRATE'S OWN BOOK by Charles Ellms & the Marine Research Society, and of course; THE ASHLEY BOOK OF KNOTTS by Clifford Ashley-this is my ultimate book, because I love to work with rope-nothing better than watching a movie at home and working on some kinda decorative knotwork(my current project is a thrum cap) Capt Weaver
  9. sixty seven said; Where can we find real pirates today? Thailand? I myself like to play a nice, fun, rough and happy fantasy pirate-but the real ones are something pretty scary you don't ever want to come across unless you be packing some pretty heavy firepower, preferably fully auto :) if your looking to find some of the real ones,a good place to look is in the waters about north africa and the red sea-those places are notorious for taking any nice little unarmed/lightly armed vessel that they happen upon. you can encounter real pirates anywhere the water is and the ruling powers tread lightly. capt Weaver
