  1. I'm going to make an order for some thin raw silk as well as some ink for fabrics. I also have another block design that will be made tomorrow. I'll keep working on this project between working on buckles. I'll keep you posted on my progress. When I've got some finalized bandanas I'll post them with prices and I can start selling them.

Dangerous Dick Longfellow, I will make some large square bandanas that will come down to the shoulders, I can also make long rectangular ones like the one posted above.

First I'll get red then green, cool grey, warm grey, and black.

  2. Great stuff Gibbet! How are you doing this (process)?

Here's a sample of the process involved in the buckle you see above.

    1. Hand drawn sketch

    2. Resized on computer and printed on paper

    3. paper version cut into the clay

    4. Silicone Casting of clay design

    5. Wax poured into the silicone mold

    6. wax version carved for fine detail

That's as far into the process as I have gotten. I still have to lost wax cast the design

  3. I seen a map marking the location of a treasure in an old book on pirates. I believe it mentioned that the treasure is not known to have been recovered because the island drawn could not be identified. Possibly due to islands in the area changing shape so rapidly.

  4. They are very cool. I will definately be up for buying some of them when you are selling them.

Here is a picture of a Pewter Buckle recovered from the wreck of a ship that sank in 1741 just off the coast of Mexico

    458.jpg

Pewter buckle. 11.9 grams, rectangular, approx. 1-7/8" x 1-7/16" Highly ornate and beautiful buckle, the hasp and any attachments missing (just the main part), with Baroque scrollwork throughout the design on the front, plain back.

Its a little smaller than a baldric buckle but would look great scaled up to fit say a 2" or 3" belt

OHHHHH Beautiful! I like this one , I will replicate this one as soon as I'm done with my next design! Keep em coming.

  5. if what you are wanting is a stge combat...with a lifetime warranty....there's no better than STARFIRE....Zak even took our sugestions (Rats pushed it)...and built a better cutlass (not the brass hilted one...the other one)....but they are very genaeric in style....we are taking some starfire blades...and putting on new...more correct hilts....for fantastic bangers that last a lifetime....

but if ya just want a pretty one...or a more period peice with out the aftermarket....then there are better places to search

You mention "more correct hilts" are you referring to the 25" or the 29" having an incorrect hilt. Cause the one I have my eye on is the 29". I've been looking for a clear pic of the hilt on that one and as of yet have not come across one. I'm not an expert on the cutlass, But I'm looking for one that would fit the date of 1730 or earlier and be stage combat compatible.

  6. I improved the design further over the past couple days and I have to say I like this new look much better B).

    Image008-6.jpg

I just have to put the bar back in the center and recast, mold, and sign and she's ready to be cast in

    bronze.

  7. We need to start a thread in Captain Twill devoted to finding you nothing but period buckle images in the hundreds and thousands. To the internet!

That sounds awesome I could reproduce a design from a good photo with measurements. Or just come up with something new which I like to do. But for the reenactors out there I understand reproducing what is historical.

  8. Want +1

    Plan on taking Paypal? B)

I see there is enough interest in the wood block print bandanas for me to order some fabric and create some more.

As of right now the only bandanas I have on hand is some green cotton Swiss military ones that could be block printed, the color of these bandanas is very close to that of Barbosa's.

What type of material would you be interested in? The red one of mine in the photo is actually a tropic weight wool. I will do up yet another block print design from the 17th century and post a picture of that one as well.

  9. The Princess and the Pirate. 1940ish with Bob Hope as the tattooed victim and Walter Brennan as the crazy old man, Virginia Mayo and Victor McLaughlin as "The Hook".

My goodness, I think you got it! I went to the Turner Classics site and watched the trailer for the Princess and the Pirate. Sure looks like it's the one I saw as a kid. Now just have to buy it on dvd and add it to my collection. Thank you Morgan Dreadlocke.

  10. I've been trying to find the title for a movie I watched years ago as a kid I've asked many people over the years and no one was yet able to give me the answer.

The movie is older it was in color, not sure if it was originally black and white and color was later added. one of the things that I remembered about it was their was a crazy old man that had a map or part of a map tattooed on his chest. That's all I can remember from it.

    Any Ideas?

  11. And will you be selling any of these?

I just may get into more block printing of bandanas and sell them. Again it depends on demand. I have some more block designs that I can engrave.

My dream is to start a small shop/tent and travel to festivals across the country. Block printing is the sort of thing I could do "on site" as well as lost wax ring designs. I have some of those in the works as well .

  12. Very nice work. Very nice, indeed. I'm always glad to see another craftsman on the Pub, especially one working with cast metals. Out of curiosity, is the design based on a period object or engraving?

Nope, the design is entirely from my head. I am looking for examples of decorative late 17th and early 18th century baldric buckles so that I can get a feel for the style and create some of my own interpretations. But the pictures seem to be very hard to come by.

  13. You know . . .

We do operate a small foundry here and do casting in bronze.

What would be the cost for two? I need one for my baldric and one for future copies? This design may change yet I'm working on some more detailed versions carved into the wax from the same mold. As well as some entirely different designs.

  14. Made some 10k gold teeth for Halloween from some old rings I had laying around.

    Image033-5.jpg

Of course not all these teeth are used at once, I just made extras to give me more options in my look. Looks too grill when I have them all in.

  15. What are yer plans for it mate?

To hang at yer side and look nice or will it be for "functional" reasons?

What you want a blade for is all about what kind you ought to get.

A little of both, I am interested in a little stage combat at some point down the road.
