  2. To add to the compliments already handed out I'd say it's great.
  3. Your past life diagnosis: I don't know how you feel about it, but you were female in your last earthly incarnation. You were born somewhere in the territory of modern West Africa around the year 1050. Your profession was that of a medic, surgeon or herbalist. Your brief psychological profile in your past life: Ruthless character, carefully weighing his decisions in critical situations, with excellent self-control and strong will. Such people are generally liked, but not always loved. The lesson that your last past life brought to your present incarnation: Your lesson is to combat violence and disharmony in our world, to understand its roots and origins. All global problems have similar origins. Do you remember now? To be honest this is so far off I can't help but laugh. Really I hate medicine and I've been told by more than a few friends I am way too kind. Oh well hope I was at least a hot chick

  5. Ah religion, major hollywierd movies, tons of money, and a few boring old french geeks. Ya gotta love it. I find it interesting that no one has gone in to the back story on this little book so with or without permission I'll take leave to dive into it even though it appears as if I am somewhat late to the party. It's the 1950's three French uber geeks (Intellectuals if you please ) decide to prove (yet again) that the world is full of idiots. To do this they use a lot of historical research, a little clever fiction, and the worlds largest religion. Guess what the hoax although not a dud makes a very muffled explosion (maybe people were smarter then) this little bit of noise reaches what most thought would be it's hey day in January 1983 When the book Holy Blood Holy Grail is published (Yes they are the people who are suing D.B.) This non fiction best seller debunks the hoax (witch if I remeber correctly the Frencheis later admitted they just made it up) in as much as it could not have happened in the way it "authors" prescribe. It does (like most answers) raise more questions and leave open as always the possibility that Jesus and Mary were an item and did indeed have a child. More than a decade passes and an author (of somewhat undistinguished background witch includes writing a book of dating advice for women under a female pen name.) Publishes a book called the Davinci code. The book is by all accounts decent if not good attracts a large following and ta da The hoax lives!!!!!!! (Why do I suddenly have more appreciation for French Geeks? ) To be honest I don't know witch is more laughable the sad individuals who think this is a "New Gospel" or those who think it's leading people away from the faith. Now to lay everything out here I am a devoted (although flawed) Christian of the protestant persuasion (Southern Baptist to be exact). I find no real restrictions or complications in my religion nor do I feel that I am some how less free or independent because of it (in fact quite the opposite and my apologies to those "free spirits" who think I'm in denial about this). (HMMMM sorry my train of thought hit a side track there back to topic.) Now to be honest I now love D.B. for providing me with the type of deep comic relief that I thought would not come again after the whole Tony Blair U-571 debacle. However as to his books I'd have to be really bored because when it comes to taking the possibilities history has left us and creating wild almost believable events in our modern era I have yet to find a better ...."story weaver" perhaps???..... than Clive Cussler. I do intend to catch the movie on DVD but hold out no real hope of seeing an epic life changing flick. As to the thought that Jesus may have been married ....why not I ain't no theologian so I can't see anything wrong in the idea. Were I to suddenly be convinced of this would it change anything for me?......Yeah I'd start looking for a genetic link in my past to the blood line of Christ!!! Well before I ramble aimlessly onward I'll close with the best wishes for all and the hope no one took offence to my ramblings. Best regards, Hitman P.S. A quick Sample of D.B.'s dating advice ladies ...Don't date a man who farts too much. No I am not making this up.
  6. It's good to see that old Clive is still getting out there and looking for wrecks. He started out looking for the Bonhomme Richard hope he gets it this time.
  7. They had Oil lamps for stage lights in the GAOP don't see why they wouldn't be used else where. Here is a sight for the stage lights http://www.stage-lighting-museum.com/html/.../17fr-rest.html
  8. For my money I'd like a blunderbus and a good boarding axe closest thing to a mossberg 835 and a K-bar As to books I'd quess boarders away although I haen't yet got my hands on a copy it does seem to come highly recommended
  9. If I understand you correctly that be what I call fat lighter. You are most certinaly right in that it burns like hell fire itself and is the best kindling wood one can get Imho
  10. Lets see, Xm - I got Sirrus and although it's great I have enough cassetes to keep me going. Internet- I love it but haveing to go without it for long time periods is not uncommon for me. computer- see above twist off bear tops - handy but then to be honest I have a pocket knife with a bottle opener soooooooooo My life would be way diffrent without any of the above but the cell is still the only one critical to me.
  11. Looks like the legacy of Old Ironsides is alive and well hey
  12. Odd saw that same hearse on a tv show yesterday. It was a speed channel show dealing with biker funerals. They also had a hearse witch was a harley with a special made sidecar. Urn's made from cylinders and gas tanks as well. Me personally I'll stick to a pine box thankee.
  13. I don't overly care for subtitles and my taste in movies usually runs to technicolor so I may be least likely to respond here however I can't help but wonder what people think of all the "rah-rah" films I watch and what they'd think of my favorite all time movie The Enemy Below.
  14. The origanal Have blue (F-117 prototype) was painted in pastel colors some that bordered on pink. Oh and some of the desert camo the Germans put on ME-109's was pinkish. Off topic I know but hey I know a little somethng about this time frame lol
  15. Foxe, Check out the watch on the first pirate. I'd belive a nice shiny watch would qualify as improbaple for the area. Well may be not improbaple but definatly not in the budget of your average farmer or fisherman. I'd also guess that these guys are wearing enough cologne to gag a mule. Now my point is not that the moderen day pirates would be wearing Jordans and fubu (little lone at ..."work"???) but that they'd have a better set of clothes than their honest cousins. This may border on making to much of the moderen world but I have often heard (ok read) you say that GAoP sailors looked like GAoP sailors they may have a dress rig for shore going but they'd be better version of their work clothes. I'm willing to bet these guys are the same as I know I work the same. Lets face it the ladies don't know it's pay day if your clothes don't say it right?
  16. Cell Phone. Without it I'd be lost, ignorant of the weather, and unable to call as frequently as needed
  17. A few thoughts Foxe Said, "First, and I'm not arguing, I'm curious, what wildly improbable things do pirates of today wear?" Imho this gets to the heart of the matter. Pirates of today do wear wildly impropable things for their time and place why...for fashion's sake. They wear clothes and jewelry not readily availble in their praticular homes because they show wealth. If bucket boots were in fashion for high seas plunders in the GAoP I could see them wearing them despite their limitid practicality. However it appears fashion dictated in this fairly narrow time frame that boots were a faus pas. I can see the fabric and leather of a pirates outfit being above par or even the level of adornments (knives, toilitres etc.) being higher for pirates than merchant seamen but not a complete disregard for the prevailing fashions of the time. I can't think of any other Pirate ship wrecks to be discovered from the GAoP. Oh and as a side point of very litte note the GAoP was not the high point of Piracy just the High Point of European Piracy. In truth the high point of Piracy would have been in either China some time before the birth of Christ or the med. during Roman times.
  18. It's alot of trouble to go to for a noisemaker although I wouldn't doubt it could be used as such. I'd also have to agree with Foxe in that it looks home made. It for some reason calls to mind the cigarrete guns the Phillipino's used agianst U.S. Marines in the early part of the 20th century. No it's not a long arm nor is it made in the same manner but for some reason it just gives the look of a simple self defence weapon for the poor. I personally don't think guns were quite so easy to come by in the GAOP as hollywood would have us to belive. This could be a cheap home made gun for the defence of a poor owner.
  19. Just got through watching a 2 hour special on the History channel titled "How William Shatner Changed the World". Decided to drop by the pub and see what the space pirates had to say and ....nothing!!!! To be honest I was just a little shocked you guys didn't have 3 topics going on about it yet as it was the repeat episode I watched. More than likely your all still on your favorite Trek board debating the show so I the non Sci-Fi pirate shall start the ball rolling. What two peices of Treck tech do you really want? For me it's the phazer and the holo-deck. Just for fun I'll add one more peice of Sci-Fi gear I'd want and thats the internet from Tom Clancy's Net ops series.
