My "smith" came to the event this weekend bearing gifts! The barrel is 12 inches long by .50 caliber bore, and it'll fire like a thing of beauty! I built the carriage. I know it's not the best, but I think it fits. And the best part... I have 11 more on the way over the next few weeks What I need to know now is... what are the laws concerning cannons that only fire blank loads? I am only going to fire blank charges in thesse. Are they legal to fire? Is there a permit you have to get? Etc? The thought of that thar gallows (or jail cell) gives me the shakes...

Ahoy, I have a pair of shoes to sell. They are a pair I wore at most a half-dozen times when doing RevWar. I'll throw in the buckles for free. Shoes similar to these, with buckles, will cost you about $170. These shoes were custom made from Godwin, left and right lasts, with squared toes. They are a little large for me (one of the other reasons why I never really wore them). I'm a size 10 1/2, so I'd put them at 11. If you are interested, make me an offer. I certainly don't expect $170, but these are a nice pair of shoes, and you'll be saving $30 since I'm including the buckles. Front Side Bottom Blackjohn

Aye, after many weeks of searchin' the web, I've come across some pirate garb that is within me budget and can git me started. I've ordered from several different sites hopin' to 'ave it all by Halloween so's I can dress up with me daughter, she'll be a pirate as well, she has one of those cheesy kid costumes, but she loves it anyway. I'll post a pic as soon as I can.....Arrrr! PS. I'm still trying to decide on a vest or a jacket of some kind, any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

For those of you following the progress of my web page dedicated to Golden Age Pirate Re-enacting.... I have just updated the site with a page on Justaucorps details. Not too much text but a lot of pictures of the one I had made from extant garments in the V &A and a 1700s coat pattern. Here is the link to the Justaucorps page

I have a re-enacting shoe fetish.... so to speak. I really feel that shoes are the achilles heal of re-enacting because they are not flashy or sexy like a sword, coat, or pistol and are often overlooked by the re-enactor. I always seem to judge a living historian by the shoes that they wear, because it usually is an indicator (for me) as to that persons' attention to detail. That being said, has anyone bought or seen first hand, Jarnigans early 18th Century shoe? http://www.jarnaginco.com/FIcatframe.html

No my question is fer ye weathered seamstresses....How long should I make the sash (I've seen 10 ft. online for orders...but is this the optimal legnth for about a 33" waist)? and what width should I cut the fabric to? Thank ye Kat

I'm beginning to *attempt* to update my garb from the velvet tights, thighboots and leather doublet I used to wear and add a few new pieces here and there and I have a question about those stripey stockings that are now popping up all over due to the impending Halloween celebrations. I like them, but I don't want to run about looking as if I've escaped from a badly drawn fairy fantasy and I was wondering how many of you incorporate the *stripes* into your wardrobe and if they are indeed authentic. My thanks in advance!

This information was printed on Crossing Blades by Capt. Lulu and I thought the rest of you might be interested in reading it. ****************************************************** Details I have noticed... Bandana is a sort of paisley print, and reminds me of an Indian type print on many pashmina scarves or an old west/Native American style print. It's very long, not typical bandana length so it leads me to believe it is a scarf. It's tied about his head and the excess hangs down the back or to the side depending on which way it flutters about his hair.Bandana 1Bandana 2 Hair is a wig, there's a pony tail that sticks out on the side where the bone sticks in his hai…

Question for anyone who has sewn this pattern (Coat and or Pants)... I'm a size 'tweener' for both the chest and hip measurements. Can't decide between Medium and Large, and I have to choose before buying the pattern, because that (M/L) is the dividing line between pattern sets. Anyone know if this pattern tends to run 'smaller' or 'larger' than stated? Also, why does life have to be so damned complicated?

I am so excited about this! That I have to share my luck with the crew here! I have been hunting down 100% silk velvet for some time (check out my links to other ports at my pirate site). Most suppliers of silk claim there "is no such thing as 100% silk". Which, of course, is not true. The problem is that if it exists, its very expensive. This material, when found by a commercial source, is usually about $150 a yard. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...DME:B:EOAB:US:6 Lucky me got it for about $20 a yard including shipping! 14 meters should be enough for a justacorps, waistcoat, breeches and a Mantua! I don't mean to brag... just have an excitment tha…
