Hello to all of you. I have decided to start a project of making myself a flintlock pistol. I have managed to source all of the parts that I will need, apart from the Butt cap, (The metal "Pommel" that goes on the end of the grip.) Can anyone suggest a supplier of parts for flintlock guns, who stocks butt caps. It would also be a great help if they have a website, as this will help to speed up the ordering process. The only place that I have found so far, is The Rifle Shoppe. http://www.therifleshoppe.com/ But I am reluctant to order from them. Not only do they have a very long order time, up to three months, but they have no pictures of their products on the webs…

Awright ye dogs, I need ter find me some hat blanks fer me costumes. I got one of the rounded like ones... black, but this was at faire, and I didn't get their card. Now I need to find a few places online ter get me s'more hats (I be a hat fanatic, see!). Specifically, if someone knows where this lass can find a hat that looks like Will Turner's 'cavalier' hat at the end of Pirates of the Caribbean. It's greyish and got a flat crown. Anyone know what that hat is called? I can post pics if'n you need me to. I'd be more interested in findin' me some hat blanks so's I can make 'em my own, but any places that sell 'em ready made are fine too. Thanks in advance fer any hel…

For reasons I'd rather leave to your imaginations, I need to acquire a flogger as my weapon/implement of discipline. Anyone know where I can find one that can pass for piratey accoutrement? :)

Over the years there have been many contributions to this topic, proving that one can create an all original design with a little effort and the help of others. In the interest of making it easier search through the designs posted here, I offer a cross section of designs as a sort of flag registry. I'll keep adding flags to this first post, so that people can see what's out there in the pirate community. I started the topic years ago with my own design I refer to as the 'crossed pistols'. This was for my own fictional character 'Redwake'. Capn Enigma Captain Galvin St. Paul Half Moon Marauders Captain Alva Long Tom's two flags Siren Song Sheppe…

I was thinking about cooking up some tarred hats, jackets, etc. fer our Baratarians: give us a more nautical look, and protection from the rain. But then I got to thinkin' more deep-like : am I not increasing our risk of startin' a fire, with the tarred clothes as the tinder, and our carcasses as the fuel? This especially worries me, since we are a cannon crew! Capt. William

In Capatin Twill, Gentleman of Fortune started a topic on the The "Admiralty Slop Contracts" discussing what was avalible aboard Naval ships.... SO I decided to make one.... I'm not sure how period is will be, a lot is guesswork, but I figured someone might be interested. I am making it using a grey wool Navy blanket that I got at a yard sale for #3.00 (but they are avalible for about $20 online) In the photos, the grey looks blue, but the close up of the pocket (Jacket 5) is closer to its actual color. I was concerned that the blanket would be too heavy , but after cutting it, and making the pocket flaps, It turns out to be just a little heavier than the Kersey that…

I didn't see a thread on this, and it's likely nothing new to anyone here, but still... I've been making a pile of fake historical documents (not forgeries, just... facsimiles), and thought I might share it here. I've particularly been leaning towards letters of marque and other nautical items. Once you find the text you're looking for (easy to do with a Google search) just print it with a regular printer. I've found that some of the better-looking fonts (if they happen to be available on your word processor) are Blackadder ITC, French Script MT, Bradley Hand ITC, and Vivaldi. For some added exotic-ness, run the text through an online translator (also easily found wi…

Last summer I had my left earlobe pierced so I could wear a piratey-looking earring with my costume. I'm looking for something inexpensive that won't corrode or turn my ear green, and it's gotta be hypoallergenic. The last one I bought at Longs started to turn green and the gold (colored) plating began to wear off. I don't want to spend a bundle. That way, if I lose it, it's "Shoot! Now I gotta get another one.", not "Where IS the damn thing? It cost a WAD o' money!"

I was rearranging some of my Pyrate files, and found this map I made last year. I figure someone else might like the idea enough to make one of their own I originally made this map in Photoshop, but the idea would also work by tracing . What I did, was scan a map, I then made a new layer and put a dot on all the places that I wanted on the map. I deleted the original map, and then started adding islands where the dots were. Added a few other layers for water, etc and ended up with a scale map of Central California. But it looks much more Pyrate like than the one showing rivers and places that I never go

I'm looking for a good source for small dubloon copies in gold and / or silver to hand out to kids at Ren Faires. I found them at a local pirate swag shop for 75 cents each, but I was hoping to find a better deal with a quantity purchase. Don't want the cheap plastic coins. On a related note, I'd also be interested in finding someone to press very simple coins with my name or something on them that would be a more personal hand-out. Any help would be appreciated. :)

I've failed miserably twice in making my centerseam mocs, so am altering my costuming to include actual shoes from the 1700s. Townsend has some nice ones, but I'd like options. Anyone else know of dealers in period footwear that aren't boots? I'm wearing out my search engine!

I'm going to be needing a ruffle front shirt in either purple or black velvet. I've seen a couple on various Goth clothing sites, but I know nothing about the businesses. Has anybody done business with the Goth suppliers and have any ideas about who is good and who is not? Thanks Hawkyns
